Paris is Always a Good Idea... or Two!

The only "problem" with Eyelet Outlet Eiffel Tower Brads is that each pack comes with six bright silver Eiffel Towers and six anodized copper ones. And since I (Lauren) can never decide which to use, I nearly always wind up making two cards. Like these:

This time I used one of the copper brown Eiffel Tower Brads first, because I knew how beautifully it would pair with the Vertical Eiffel Tower Tape I've used in the background. I couldn't resist adding a strip of this pretty new Gold Foil XO Tape, as well as a couple of Anodized Stars and a Compass Brad.

Obviously, I couldn't leave out the pretty silver Eiffel Tower Brads, so my second card features one of those on top of a trimmed down journal card that reads, "Paris is Always a Good Idea". I added a few strips of pretty pink foil Rose Washi Tape on the pink notebook paper panel, and a couple of Heart Brads to finish off my design.

Of course, both of these ideas would also work really well in a travel journal, or to scrapbook a trip to Paris; but until I have occasion for either of those, I'll just keep making cards! ♥

World Traveler

Hi there!  It's Kim from Katydid Cards with you today!  Happy New Year!

If any of you were lucky enough to get a trip to an exciting destination from Santa or resolved to do more traveling in 2019, this card is for you!

I worked with the Travel and Mail Brads.  They combined well for this World Traveler card; a great way to help send someone off on a vacation abroad if you weren't on the receiving end of the tickets yourself.

I made a suspended spinner card so I could show the big old jet airliner (remember that song?) traveling the globe.  On the front, the start of the trip and on the flip side, the plane is nearing its destination.

Here's how I did it:

  1. I stamped the globe image (Globe Greetings by Concord & 9th) twice on watercolor paper and colored them with markers and an aqua painter.
  2. Once dry, I attached them back to back with a 6" length of clear thread in between them.  I used double-sided tape to ensure good adhesion.
  3. I cut a circle in the card base and decorative panel slightly larger than the globe image.
  4. The background panel was covered with Paris Washi Tape, applied on the diagonal.
  5. I attached the globe to the back of this panel, again with double-sided tape and then carefully attached them to the card base.
  6. The globe stand was heat embossed with clear embossing powder after coating it with Wink of Stella.  Two Green Glitter Enamel Dots were added as an accent.
  7. The banner was created to follow the curve of the globe and the greeting was a text to path in my Silhouette Design Screen.

Here's the globe, spinning.

And here's the inside of the card.  Here you see the reverse side of the globe and the plane further along its path.  I wanted to use the other travel brads, so I created a sentiment spaced to accommodate the brads.  So, it tells the traveler to:

Have fun.
Pack wisely.
Take lots of pictures.
Remember to write.

And here's another Eyelet Outlet card about vacation, perhaps when the world traveler reaches the French Riviera.

Oui, Paris!

I have always been drawn to images of France and the Eiffel Tower!  I found some pretty designer paper with a map of Paris and thought that it would make a nice masculine non-traditional Valentine for my husband.  As a young Navy wife I took a plane to Marseille to meet him when the aircraft carrier pulled into port, and we took the bullet train up to Paris for a whirlwind, romantic trip.  We even stayed in the turret of a castle in Rambouillet!   I love that this card will have special significance for him and bring warm memories to mind.

The front of the card features our Paris washi tape and a bronze Eiffel Tower brad.  The stamp set that I used included vintage postage marks, so the tape and twine give the card the feel of a parcel.

To carry the theme and colors to the inside, I added a strip of mail washi tape along with a fleur de lis and a larger, die-cut image of the Eiffel Tower.

Fun and not too frou frou!  I think he'll like it!

I have another more traditional Valentine project planned for my next post!
Hope to see you then!

Weaving Washi Tape

I love how forgiving Washi Tape is when you design ... you can cut or tear it ... you can reposition it without damaging the paper ... and it is slightly transparent, so you can layer it for fun effects.

Today I made some cards that weaved washi tape by overlapping vertically & horizontally.

The first card combines Fish Washi Tape with fun Trout & Bass Brads.

For the second card I used Paris Washi Tape with the pretty Eiffel Tower brad.

So many possibilities with this technique.

Search through your Washi Tape stash and discover the possibilities.

Packing List!

Seems like every time I pack, whether it is for a short, overnight trip or a lengthy excursion, I pack the same ole thing and usually forget something!  The last trip we took (to visit my husband's family in Upper Michigan) I decided that it was time to make a list that I could re-use and update if necessary.

I used a journal card die to cut a bunch of cards from ivory and kraft card stock and a few designer paper prints, stamped them with a grid/ledger stamp, then decorated them with stamps and washi tapes.  Since when we fly I usually take along some gluten-free snacks and craft items in addition to clothing and toiletries, I added tabs to specify what belongs in my handbag, my carry-on, or my checked luggage.

It made it so easy to organize for our trip, and helped me to not leave anything behind when we were ready to go back home!  I am so happy with the way this project turned it!  It's cute, small, and easy to update.  Here's just a small sampling of the pages.

Glitter Washi Travels

This week I am in New York hanging out with my artsy bestie Lauren (who is also an Eyelet Outlet Design Team Member ... it is so fun that we get to design together in person and across the miles).

This card is inspired by our crafty travels.

There is so much to do and see in New York City ... and we never tire of exploring.  I just love this wide New York Washi Tape.  I added some Swirl Bling in Jewel Blue as well as Black Glitter Washi Tape and some Color Wheel Washi Tape too.

My trick for covering an entire card front with washi tape is to cut a piece of cardstock slightly larger than my desired size and position it on a non-stick craft sheet.  I apply a piece of washi tape in the center of the card that extends slightly beyond each side.

Then I keep adding washi tape working toward the top and the bottom until the entire cardstock is covered.  It will easily detach from the craft sheet, so I can trim off the ends in my paper cutter and get perfect edges.

Here's another travel-themed card for a future dream destination ... Paris, France.

For this card I used the same technique combining Paris Washi Tape with Copper Glitter Washi Tape.  For the center, I used a piece of copper metallic cardstock to attach my sentiment.

I embellished with Eiffel Tower Brads and Swirl Bling in Champagne.
