HB to a T!

Here's a really fun and EASY birthday card idea that can be adapted to use your favorite Eyelet Outlet Brads and Tapes, customized for any recipient! In this case, I (Lauren) used a bunch of older birthday themed brads and the best news of all is that a lot of them are ON SALE! Including Pastel Balloon BradsBirthday Sock MonkeysLollipop Brads and Cupcakes. I've also used Candle BradsParty Hats and Bright Balloon Brads. My background is made from Wide Calendar Tape and my sentiment is Happy Birthday Washi

The tiny shirts were made with a set of nested T-Shirt dies and a bunch of colorful paper scraps, but you could use any small punch or die of a similar size: hearts, stars and tag shapes, for example, would be really fun! And I'm quite sure you can find the perfect Eyelet Outlet Brad and Tape combination for EVERYONE on your birthday card list!

HB2U

Is there anything more festive than Birthday Sock Monkeys? I (Lauren) kind of doubt it, especially when they're Eyelet Outlet Birthday Sock Monkey Brads AND they're on sale! I've paired mine with some colorful Happy Birthday Washi TapePastel Balloon Brads (also on sale!) and Heart Enamels.

If Sock Monkeys are not your idea of birthday joy, there are plenty of other styles of brads, tape, flowers, bling and enamels at Eyelet Outlet!

Cupcakes for Everyone!

New Brad Alert! We've got four new styles making their Eyelet Outlet debut today: Female Cardinals, Gift Boxes, Iced Coffee and... my (Lauren's) personal favorite... Swirl Cupcakes!

Three flavors of Swirl Cupcakes come in each package, so of course I had to make three slightly smaller than A2 cards. It also made sense to add in other birthday-themed and/or pink brads, such as a Birthday CandleLollipop Brad (they're on sale!) a FlamingoColored DaisyBirthday Sock Monkey (also on sale!) and a Heart Brad. A scattering of white Round Sequins, some torn patterned paper and a little machine stitching completes the design.

Stay tuned for more New Brad inspiration from the design team, right here on the Eyelet Outlet Blog.

Let's Make Tape Squares

I (Lauren) never get tired of playing with my Eyelet Outlet Washi collection, I'm always excited to come up with new ideas. This birthday card has background made entirely of Chevron Tape strips, which is so fun and colorful that it only needed a few brads... (a Party Hat, a Birthday Sock Monkey and a Birthday Cake, to be precise) ...plus some EO Sequins to finish it off!

Here's how I made that quilt-like background; note that I switched to Pencil Tape for the second sample. I neatly applied strips of tape to plain white cardstock, cut them apart with my guillotine trimmer, then cut the lengths so they were all exactly the same size, in this case, about 3". I affixed them to another piece of plain cardstock, starting at the center and working outward, as you can see in the photos below.

To answer the obvious question: Yes, you could apply strips of tape directly to your background and skip the step of backing them with cardstock; but I found it hard to get the cuts on the short ends absolutely straight, and also it was more challenging to line them up precisely.

When all the strips were applied to the background, I trimmed up the ends and matted the whole panel on some red cardstock, added a Paper Flower stack and a Heart Brad and called it good to go!

Now I want to try this with ALL of my EO Tapes, including the wide ones, the skinny ones and the glitter ones!

Wise Monkeys

Here's yet another example of a phrase that I (Lauren) saw on a shirt or on Instagram and thought, "that would make a fun card!" I stand by that belief in the case of this sentiment; and yes... I really did think getting old would take considerably longer!

I started out with an entirely different idea, but when I saw my Birthday Sock Monkey Brads and remembered that I had Sprinkles Tape, I changed plans immediately! I love that the Sock Monkeys  (which, by the way, are on sale for .99c!) come with five colors in the packet, so that if you want to use a bunch of them together, they add an entire rainbow. Oh and did I mention they're on sale?! As well as being... more fun than a barrel of (Sock) Monkeys!!!

Happy Birthday to You!

Hello. Thanks for stopping by the blog today!

If you're like me, you never seem to have enough birthday cards, so I have one to share with you today that uses a unique combination of Eyelet Outlet Brads, Enamel Dots, and Washi Tape.

My inspiration for this card was actually a pair of eye glasses - in the form of a brad.

I got to thinking - why not make a face!?!?!?

So I did:

The eyes are Enamel Dots.

Yes, I wished I had a birthday hat, but since I didn't I adapted and used a Witch Hat and added a Glitter Enamel Dot to the end for a pom pom.

And what birthday is complete without some Balloons and the singing of Happy Birthday to you (hence the Music Note Washi Tape)!?!?!?

There's even a gift - Birthday Sock Monkey.

Newsflash: Cuteness of Sock Monkeys Definitively Confirmed!

Hi guys, it's Lauren here. And whereas it might not actually be news that all sock monkeys are cute and Eyelet Outlet Birthday Sock Monkey Brads are especially so, I'm not sure it's ever been on television until now. See:

I was lucky enough to win a flash prize from The Stamps of Life for my EO Coffee Stamp cards in the latest Coffee Loving Cardmakers' Blog Hop, and one of the items I chose was the TV2Stamps set and coordinating dies. Apart from just how cool it is generally, I thought the tv set would be a great size for making little scenes with my brads, and I stand by that decision. I made a little cluster of birthday brads... in this case the Birthday Sock Monkey, a Cupcake and a Candle Brad... but really the possibilities are endless.

In case you need more *FLASHES* of inspiration, remember that the Eyelet Outlet BlogFacebook page and Instagram feed have daily doses of inspiration from my awesome fellow designers! ♥

It's Somebunny's Birthday

And we are celebrating here on the Eyelet Outlet Blog! Hi guys, it's Lauren again, with a couple of uber-cute birthday cards featuring loads of super-fun Eyelet Outlet birthday-themed brads!

Before we get to the cards, I want to answer the question I get asked the most when I put oversized Eye Glass Brads on an undersized critter, "How do you get those to stay on?" It's actually really easy, you just have to plan ahead a tiny bit. Set the brads BEFORE you cut out the bunny... (who's from a stamp set called Holiday Pals by Pretty Pink Posh) ...and cut out AROUND the glasses, so they're supported by the "extra" cardstock that you've left intact. In the case of the rectangular glasses, I left the area inside the frames white. Since the round glasses show a bit more background, after I chose my patterned paper, I took a soft blue brush marker and tinted the area around bunny's head to make it coordinate and thus disappear.

Oh and one more trick: sometimes I bend the prongs of a brad INWARD instead of outward; they grip the paper equally well but take up less space. So now you know!

For the first version, I went vertical with my A2 card and added the Party HatCake and Candle Brads in little thought bubbles I cut from colorful paper scraps. Once again, to make them fit *perfectly* I set the brads before I drew the thought bubbles, then cut out neatly around them. My sentiment is made with my trusty Dymo labelmaker; I trimmed the labels slightly and stacked them to balance the design.

On my second card, I went horizontal, and changed the wording of the sentiment slightly to make the label portion of it fit on the inset 5.25 x 4" panel of my card. Then I added "Somebunny" in glittery alphabet stickers and assembled my birthday thought bubbles which this time include a Cupcake, a Birthday Sock Monkey and a Heart Brad. On both cards I "connected" the thoughts to the bunny via tiny 1/16" Mini Round Brads, which come in a variety of pretty colors.

Of course this idea would work really well for practically ANY occasion, with a variety of critters wearing all sorts of accessories! I hope you'll be inspired to make your own version using your favorite Eyelet Outlet Brads... and be sure to tag me so I can come and see it! ♥
