Ohio Photo Book

Last year I created a photo book for my in-laws and I don't think I've shared it on my blog. I made the book 7x9 inches and had it printed through ArtsCow.

I can't believe it's been a year since these photos were taken. We only spent one year on Ohio, but we did so much during that time & I'm glad I have the photos to remember our adventures.

A lot of this miniBook is dedicated to our trip to the air museum. Mark and his Dad are both really into airplanes, so I thought it was important to include a lot of those photos in this book. And while I love the beautiful weather we have in Florida, I am going to miss the beautiful leaves in Ohio.

Have a wonderful week!

Adventure Acres

With Halloween only a week away Mark and I really wanted to take the kids to a pumpkin patch. I love picking pumpkins, and the Puyallup/Orting area always had great pumpkin patches for families. Because we are new(ish) t0 the area I trusted Google to tell me where the nearest (and nicest) pumpkin patch is located, and I was pleasantly surprised to find several in the area. Unfortunately for us, the business of growing pumpkins has turned into a money maker & all the pumpkin patches I found charge an entrance fee, hay ride fee, corn cannon fee, play area fee, individual pumpkin fee, etc., etc., etc. I don't mind paying for a hay ride, but when the pumpkin patch turns into a $40 afternoon I think it's a bit much. After doing some more research we settled on Adventure Acres near Dayton. Because the kids are under 5, they were free, and I found coupons for two tickets Mark and I would need. I pulled my scarf out for the first time this year, put the boys' new bear hats on them, and we were set.

I definitely should have checked the weather channel before we left... it was 78 degrees out. My scarf was not necessary.

The "pumpkin patch" was really a corn maze, a kids play area, a hay ride, and petting zoo. The pumpkins were already picked and very expensive, so we are buying ours at the grocery store this year.

We did have a good time, despite my initial pity party. The play area had some fun things for Evan, and Jack loved going down the slide & walking around in the hay.

Evan's favorite activity was walking on top of the hay bales and jumping onto more hay. He thought that was pretty cool.

Henry the horse was also a hit. Jack called him "pup-pup".

Ev stopped moving for only a second so I could get a picture of him on the fence. He was much too busy running in the hay, kicking gravel, and waiving to the goats.

This is probably my favorite photo from today. That face says it all... he was d.o.n.e. with the pumpkin patch, done with his stroller, done. done. done. We left a couple of minutes after this was taken, and Jack was asleep before we drove out of the parking lot & he slept all the way home.

Have a great week :-)

King's Island in September.

We were supposed to take a trip to King's Island on Saturday, but Jack wasn't cooperating. He had had enough of his pack-n-play, and decided to rebel by not taking a nap. Poor kid was a mess by the time we were supposed to go, so we stayed home & Mark put his new crib together. Sunday was a much better day, and after a great morning nap, Jack was ready for the amusement park.

Jack loves going on the rides, and this trip he cried when the ride would stop. This photo was taken after the Merry-Go-Round & he was so, so upset.

Off to bed :-)

For my mom & dad:

I finished sorting and editing the photos from my parents' visit, and I thought I would post some of them here. All of us had a wonderful time & I can't believe how fast those 2.5 weeks went. All of a sudden it's August and I'm back-to-school shopping. Where does the time go?

Cincinnati Zoo
I hate taking pictures at the zoo. There are always poles, fences, mesh cages, buildings, and other objects blocking my view of the animals, & causing my photos to have obstructions that drive me crazy! I attempted to take a photo of my mom, dad, Evan, and Jack on the train we rode around the zoo, but there are not one, but two poles in the photo. It was also 90+ degrees and humid that day, so I was monitoring the kids' water intake, and trying to keep the fussing to a minimum. The Cincinnati Zoo is huge, and it was a lot of walking, but the animals were amazing. Jack was completely in awe of every exhibit, and would screech if someone stood in front of his stroller and he couldn't see.

Grandpa & Jack-Jack

Bananas
On a particularly hot day, my Mom and I took the kids to Bananas Jump and Play (Come & Jump? Drop in & Jump? I don't remember their tag line...) Anyway, Evan probably ran 5 miles that day, and Jack sat in one spot and smiled.

King's Island
Another hot, hot day in Ohio, but the kids didn't seem to notice. This trip I decided (after some prompting from my mom), to allow Jack to sit with Evan on a couple rides. His expressions were absolutely priceless. He smiled at all the attendants that strapped him into the car/train/seat. Evan was very protective of his baby brother & put his arm around him during the fast parts.

Saying Good-bye
This is one of the last photos I took before Mark and Evan drove them to the airport. Evan fell asleep on the way, and didn't really wake up when my mom & dad tried to say good-bye to him. When Mark and Ev got home home, Evan broke down and started crying, saying he missed them already. It broke my heart that he was so upset. He had a couple of rough days after they left, but I think he's feeling better.

Thanks, Mom & Dad, for making the trip to Ohio to visit us. We love you!

xoxo,

Erin.

Father & Son Adventures.

I downloaded the Camera Bag app to Mark's iPhone tonight... and I am completely addicted! It has 13 different photo effects you can apply to your iPhone photos. I used to Helga effect on the photos below.

(You can click on the image to make it bigger.)

Mark & Evan have been going on father/son outings almost every weekend lately & I just discovered all the photos Mark has been taking with his iPhone. I love peeking into their adventures & looking at the goofy photos they take.

1. Riding bikes at Miami Whitewater Forest.
2. Climbing at Miami Whitewater Forest.
3. Riding his quad in his pajamas.

Why I Love Summer:

Good Books. I usually read more during the summer months, and this year is no exception. Right now I'm reading Bright Lights, Big Ass by Jen Lancaster. It's definitely chick lit, but super funny & should be a quick read. I have another Jen Lancaster book, and a Jodi Picoult book on my to-do list for this summer as well.

Outdoor Photography. I love his hat and toothy grin :-)

Jack @ 13 months.

Baseball. When the DirecTV installer told me I could get the Mariner's games in Ohio, I was thrilled. There are a few drawbacks, though: 1.) Most of the games start at 7pm pacific time, which is 10pm eastern time (good thing I'm a night owl). 2.) Mark probably thought he was escaping my Mariner's obsession when we moved across the country. Little did he know! 3.) The Mariners aren't very good this year.

BBQ. I love it when Mark barbecues during the summer. It means I don't have to cook (except to marinade the meat), and Mark is really good at barbecuing, so it's always yummy.

Home Improvement Projects. Mark assembled this collage above our kitchen table & I love it. Ali Edwards posted a photo collage from her baby's nursery awhile back, and I knew I wanted to do something similar when we moved. Two of the photos were taken by Terri Beloit Photography, but the rest are mine.

Flowers. I am not as comfortable with nature photography as I am taking pictures of people, but I couldn't resist snapping a picture of this beautiful hydrangea when we were at King's Island two weeks ago.

Visitors. Evan was so, so sad when Abby had to fly home a few weeks ago. Ev loved having her here for 8 days & asks us regularly when we are flying to Grandma and Grandpa's house to see her again.

Abby @ 22. Evan @ 4.

Family Time.
Game night, King's Island, family walks, movies, and playing outside are a few of our favorite things to do during the summer as a family.

Time to Scrapbook.

Have a wonderful Thursday, friends. I am off to check on Jack, who has come down with a virus & isn't feeling well at all. Poor guy has had a fever all day and isn't sleeping well :-(

King's Island - Part 1.

Abby, Evan, Jack, and I made our first trip to King's Island last week, the day before Abby flew back to Washington. I purchased season passes for the family back in May, and I really wanted to take Abby with me for our first trip. King's Island is about 30 minutes from our house, and with the passes we get free parking & unlimited visits to the park. What I liked about this amusement park when I was researching it was the amount of rides & attractions for kids Evan's age. He is the perfect height to go on almost every ride in Planet Snoopy, and can go on a couple of rides in the main park, too.

This was the last photo I took in the park. Evan was exhausted and pouting a little because we had to leave. The weather forecast said low 70's with a good chance of rain, so I dressed the boys in t-shirts and long pants. That was a big mistake. It was 82, hot, and muggy, and we were all over dressed. He was so sweaty & sticky by the time we left, but he loved every second we were there.

This was Evan's first time on a real roller coaster. He hid in Abby's lap the whole ride, but at the end he looked up at her and said "I want to do it again!".

I adore this photo of Evan and Abby. He loves his Auntie so, so much and I know he misses her. It was all about Abby when she was here. I heard "no, Abby will do it" more times than I care to admit.

Evan and me while we were waiting in line for the roller coaster.

When I asked Evan what his favorite ride was, he said the little green cars. He loved riding in them and gave me a thumbs up as he was driving down the last hill.

Aren't these just the cutest little helicopters you have ever seen?

I love Evan's thumbs up in this photo.

Jack was a trooper the whole time we were there. He was comfy in his new stroller, and was really good until the very end when he started getting tired and cranky.

The bumper cars were an instant favorite. He got a little frustrated when his car got stuck, but he figured out how to turn the wheel and get himself away from the walls. And look at that face... I don't think he could be more excited.

The swings were the only ride that was just okay. They barely moved, and I think Evan was a little bored.

It was a near-perfect day & everyone had a great time. Evan asks me every morning if we are going to King's Island today, and he talks about our trip with Abby almost as much. Thanks for visiting Abby, we miss you!
