Snowman Hand-print Ornamenahahahaaaa!

Good Tuesday to you all!

I have been away from this blog'o'mine for quite a bit, eh?!  I am starting to feel the itch again, and I hope to be back here much more often now.  Mojo's rising.  :)

SO!  Check these babies out:

Ha!  Do you love them as much as I do?!?!

I saw this adorable tutorial on the Pinterest's a few weeks ago, and thought it would be awesome to do with Emmy - quick, fun, and I already had everything on hand to make them.

So silly cute, hers are!

HOWEVER.
We made six and only one ended up being usable as anything close to resembling Snowmen!  Emmy was alllll about schmearing the paint all over the ornaments but it was just so funny and cute, I didn't put up too much of an argument.  She's not even three after all.  ;)

If I do these again, which I think I will - I really love them! - I will do it a little differently.  In the tutorial, the pictures show the ornament sitting the palm of the child's hand, and then they close their hand up around the ornament... I think next time I will hold the ornament upside down and like, roll Emmy's hand over top of it.  That make any sense?

Some of the others...

Disembodied Snowmen!

Melting Snowmen!

SAW SUPER CUTE TODDLER-PARENT CRAFT ON PINTEREST:

NAILED IT:

Lolz.
Have a good day!

Pompom Pillow

Friends, I really have mixed feelings about this pillow.

It looked so good before I put the pillow form into it.  The pompoms looked more like banners or buntings - which was the goal!  They were nice and swoopy.  But once I put the form in, the curves sort of straightened out.

Craft Fail?!

Switched to a zipper foot after that hot mess stitching on the dark purple row!  YEEesh.

Meh.
But I do love that I have a new friend for Foxy Pillow!  I think they'll look fab together... After I fix this one.  :)

Envelope style, ala From An Igloo.

Good idea, poor execution methinks.
Either the poms need to be totally straight, just like plain ol' stripes, or way waaay more swoopy.  This in-between business ain't cute.  :P

Hey, happy Memorial Day weekend everyone!  Hope you all have good ones!  I'm off to NYC tomorrow morning!  Woohooo!  I'll take tons of pictures, especially in the Garment District!

Love to all,

*ETA*  Thank you all SO MUCH for your kind words about this pillow!  I think I was looking at it with a judgmental craft-stank eye.
It's pretty cute, I guess. ;)

Early Christmas Preparations Fail.

So I saw this really sweet idea on One Pretty Thing for these candles with photos decoupaged onto them.  The tutorial was from Vintage Image Craft, and they are SO lovely!  Exhibit A:

I decided I MUST make these candles with Emmy's face slathered onto them for every person I know for Christmas.  I wasn't going to post about this because, obvi, you'd all be receiving one.

I ordered my printable Vellum Paper immediately from here (fyi - I ordered the paper on Tuesday and it came Wednesday - awesome!) and when I got home tonight I snagged the only white candle in the house - one I think we've had since like, 2003.  It's a bit haggard, but I figured it'd work for trial-run purposes.

Now, in true Sarah Style, I never actually read the tutorial for making these candles.  I just scrolled through really fast and said no-problem-I'm-making-these.  I grabbed my Martha Stewart Decoupage Glue and had at it.

Scary!  Halloween's over!

The vellum is peeling!

Wrinkly baby face!

The ink schmeared!

Not.  Good.

So, in NO WAY is this meant to be a bad review of the original tutorial.  I actually went back and *read* the thing, and when I got to the part about kitchens and pots and boiling water, I jumped out the window in a ball of fear-fire.

I think I'll try again - it's SUCH a beautiful result, if you're willing to, aherm, do it right.
If I DO successfully accomplish these candles, disregard this post, as you'll be receiving one for Christmas.

You never saw this.
