Snowbound

I finished Snowbound last Spring for my guild Quilt Show.  It is a quilt that I changed my mind about a few times, and then ended up sticking with the original pattern True Blue by Minick and Simpson. It's a small lap quilt  48 x 48. I used a thicker flannel on the back. My husband has claimed it as is. It is the same colours as his favourite team and he uses it when he watches games which I think is great. I enjoyed the flying geese border more than I thought and would definitely use them as a border again.

Binding Time Part 2

The first quilt has been bound and now I am working on the second quilt for the quilt show. It is my Snowbound quilt. I was not expecting to be binding it during an ice storm and snow in April. I really appreciated this quilt more after it was quilted but I am definitely ready to appreciate some Spring quilts!

Snowmen Stars

This quilt top is finally finished and I am so happy. I worked on it and got it finished two weeks ago when I went on a quilt retreat for the weekend. It was definitely a labour of love and overthinking. The pattern is True Blue by Minick and Simpson. It is hard to tell in the photo but the fabrics are snowmen and snowflakes. This was a kit that I had bought a few years ago on vacation. I had originally bought it for the fabric as I was working on a snowmen embroidery. At first I was going to make only a few of the stars and put the embroidery in between so rather than cutting everything out I only cut out a bit at a time. I ended up not liking how it was looking. On last year's retreat I had laid out the stars I had and realized I really liked it. The original pattern had a darker gold colour for the stars.  This year's retreat was finishing up the flying geese and putting on the borders. I have a love/hate relationship with flying geese but I think I would like to try them again.

Sashing - WIP Wednesday

Summer seems to have become a time for me to finish up projects that just need a subtle push. These past few days I worked on my Kaleidoscope quilt and my Snowy Stars which needed some help with their sashing.

I finally got all of the sashing done for my Kaleidoscope quilt and started auditioning fabrics for the borders.

For my Snowy Stars I cut the sashing for in between the rows. I was originally going to do something different with the fabrics so I just cut when I decided what I wanted to do.

It feels good to have these quilts move past the block stage. I can't wait until they become a quilt top!

Snowmen Stars

I am not sure if I am allowed to say the S word in July - snow! I have been organizing my UFO's in the past couple of weeks to figure out what needs to be done to finish them. The stars were finished and needed to be put into rows so I have that done now. Next I will be working on the border and the flying geese.  I think I will be changing up the border a bit. I am in the mood again that done is better than perfect which helps productivity.

Snowmen Stars

Winter wanted to go out with a bang so we got a bunch of snow two weeks ago. It made me want to take out my Snowmen quilt and get it organized. This quilt has been more finicky, as I was unsure what direction I wanted to take it in so I did not want to cut too far ahead if I changed my mind. My original thought had to put embroidery in the middle of it but I was not enjoying the look and the blocks were not fitting well together so I have set the embroidery aside for now. I now have all of the star blocks done and just having a few flying geese left to go. Once I get them done, the quilt will go back into its box for now. I have a few other more pressing projects to work on.

Quilt Retreat

I had a wonderful time at my quilt retreat that I attended a couple of weekends ago. I did something I have not done before. I started a quilt from start to finish(quilt top finish). I used the Northern Lights pattern and had all the half hexagons cut out before I got to the retreat. It was neat to see a project done from start to finish but I usually use the time at my retreats to work out the problems and kinks in my projects and I missed doing more of that.

I finally got my Calendar quilt sewn together as well.I kept trying to make it perfect and changing my mind about which fabric should go were for the borders, and having it at the retreat forced me to just get it done with whatever I had brought.

I also worked on my Snowmen Star quilt and figured out what I was not liking about it. Once I figured that out I was back to sewing on it.

Design Wall Monday - Snowbound.

Just as I am getting a handle on my Snowbound quilt it feels as though Spring as come. I have been playing around with the blocks to fit in my Snowmen embroidery and I think I have figured out what will fit.  I am going to put some extra flying geese between them. I have enjoyed working out the math to make what will hopefully be a fabulous quilt.

Snowbound

It looks like there is the possibility that we could be snowbound again. In the meantime I have been working on my Snowbound. It has great to be focusing on one project. I have the stars done and now I am working on the flying geese. They are going faster than I thought. I have been working on another quilt that has an option of using flying geese in the border and now I am more interested in doing so. When I am finished with this quilt, I will relax under it with a nice cup of Hot Chocolate!

Snowy Spirit

We have had a lot of extremely cold days lately and yesterday we received over 40 cm of snow. Monday was a holiday as well, so it gave me some time to work on a new quilt. I had bought a snow themed quilt kit last summer on sale. I was mostly buying it for the fabrics.

I had completed these a few years ago as well as one other, and never got around to finishing the rest of them. I had been looking for a way to finish them in a quilt.

When I went to my guild meeting this month there was someone there displaying a quilt similar to the pattern I had gotten with the kit except instead of flying geese there was log cabin blocks around the edges and she had a medallion block in the middle.I decided it would be great to have the snowmen blocks in the middle like a medallion and then create the blocks around it.

I have 11 out of the 16 blocks completed, and then need to decide what the next row will be. I may keep the flying geese blocks. A friend at the meeting challenged me to have quite a bit of it done before my next quilting guild meeting and I am hoping to accomplish that.
