These are some photos from a day in San Francisco I spent with some friends earlier in the summer. I can't wait 'til the boys are a little older so that we can venture into the city more on weekends. There's seriously so much more good food up there. On this particular trip we hit up a couple of good old stand-bys - Pizzeria Delphina, Tartine (they ran out morning buns just before we got to the front of the very long line!) and Bi-rite Creamery. We also (finally!) got to visit Heath Ceramics, which was as stunning as I had expected. I've been really enjoying taking photographs in non-pressure situations, and find that I'm most interested in capturing a mood, or scenes that aren't set up or people who aren't posing.

making things
It's been nice getting back into making things with my hands as life resumes normalcy. I had fun packaging up these cookies as a little thank you for everyone who brought us meals in those early weeks after Ian's arrival. Aren't those beets pretty? I roasted them with a bit of oil, salt, and pepper and we had them with some fish Irving grilled. And that crusty bread - so good and so easy - really! I'm a lazy cook and generally only like to make things that are quick and easy. Recipe found here.

last hurrah
We took another trip up to San Francisco this past weekend as a sort of last hurrah before the baby comes. We tried to go to Tartine but the line was way too long so we went next door to Pizzeria Delphina which was fantastic. It made us wish we had more regular access to great food down in the suburbs of silicon valley! Then we walked over to the Bi-rite market and loaded up on some pints of ice cream (yes, we brought a cooler!). We drove over to the Ferry Building afterwards to walk around for a bit before meeting up with some friends at Gott's for burgers and fries. Oh, and yes, those are swim goggles Oscar has around his neck in the first picture. He's been really into wearing them everywhere.
I've been making a lot of nut milk since the last post, and have been trying to figure out what to do with all the nut pulp. Last week I just threw in a batch of nut pulp while making these shortbread cookies and they actually turned out pretty good. I'm still on the lookout for healthier options though.

37 weeks
The girls from my church small group threw me a little surprise baby shower recently. It was so sweet of them since I wasn't expecting anything at all, and all the little details were just perfect. I love the Anthropologie-inspired hair ties Sumiko made and included in the favor box. Oscar still has days where he drools quite a bit, so I cut up some old shirts and sewed them into bandana bibs. I like how they look on him better than regular bibs. I've been reading this great book (thanks Susan!), and feel inspired to cook with better ingredients. This past weekend I made lentil spread using this recipe, and some almond milk using this video. Both turned out great!
