I love how French Vogue's new editor-in-chief, Emmanuelle Alt, uses a Charles Pollock Executive Chair ($1900) in her office. At first glance I thought it was an Eames Lounger, but at closer look, definitely a Pollock. And some guesses on the rest of the scene: Cartier Tank (approx $2000); Vince Paper Leather jacket ($945); Rag & Bone Newbury ankle boot ($495); Bose iPod dock ($300).

>> everyday superhero
This new collection designed by Ben Hall for Acme Studios is pretty super. I'm especially fond of the Raygun desk pen ($130) and X-ray eyeglass case ($30).

>> classic pegboard
Our office was feeling a little blah, so Matt came up with the genius idea to put in a giant pegboard. We got a 8' x 4' slab at Anawalt Lumber for $30, painted it, installed a back support (so you can have room between the wall and the pegboard for hooks, etc.), and ta da...new office!

>> scout books
Digging this Portland-based company, Scout Books, who make pocket-sized notebooks that you can easily design yourself on their website. They're also made from 100% recycled papers and soy inks. And you can choose from blank paper, lined, or my personal favorite: grid. Custom notebooks start at $195 for a set of 50, but there are some already designed books that are pretty snazzy, and the price is pretty snazzy too (just $10 for a three pack + free shipping anywhere in the US of A). But don't you want to design your own? I do.

>> room + board @ culver city
I went to the new Room & Board in Culver City yesterday. It's conveniently located in the old Helms Bakery building (how freaking great is that sign!?) between two of my favorite places in Culver City: Surfas and Father's Office.
It's a huge store, they took over a bunch H.D. Buttercup's space I'm told. I finally got a chance test drive the new Herman Miller Setu chair.
Ok, it's not the best looking office chair in the world, but when I sat it in it my back felt like a cloud, so it sealed the deal. I also think it's cool that Room & Board is carrying the almost 100 year old Illinois pottery line, Teco.

>> setu it
Last night while I was lying on the floor because my back was throbbing, I asked myself, "why is this happening?". Oh yeah, because I sit in a freaking fiberglass shell chair with 0% back support all day long. Hopefully those days are soon behind me because I've got my eye on one of the most ergonomically correct chairs out there, The Setu by Herman Miller ($499). Its innovative kinematic spine bends and flexes to your every move. There's nothing to tilt, nothing to tweak. And it doesn't look like one of those cuckoo chairs where you're practically hanging upside down, it looks like a 21st century modern chair. It was designed only last year in fact, by Studio 7.5, and it comes in a variety of colors and specifications.

Gallardo Works
Matt got some pretty great birthday gifts this year, but the best one of all (and I hope I'm not offending anyone here) was the custom stationery my brother and sister-in-law got him from Gallardo Works. The note cards feature a custom crest with his initials and a rendering of Harrison (re-drawn from our Save-the-Dates). Pretty sweet!

ORK heart poster
Matt asked me to help him with a little office decoration for his workspace at a company that focuses solely on cardiology. He said it was the least I could do after publicly humiliating him for his hording tendencies in the L.A. Times. I guess I agree. So I thought this new ORK heart poster ($18) would the perfect little guy for the job. ORK makes many more city posters than they did a year ago, so check them out if you haven't recently.

Sawhorse table legs
I haven't been able to really wrap my brain around decorating our new apartment yet as I've been busy stress-eating and pacing, but I started to get slightly into the idea of working on it when I came across these classic angular iron table legs ($38). I love the vintage-inspired olive paint job. And we can get a great little tabletop of our choosing (the legs come with pre-drilled holes at the supports for easy affixing to any table surface). This seems like the perfect project for Matt. And guess what? It's from Urban Outfitters (huh?)--where by the way they're waiving the shipping fee for everything over $75 until October 5th.

2010 Calendar
I'm so excited for 2010! I just bought this really cool Crispin Finn 2010 calendar ($16). I can't wait to hang it in our new office and fill it with OTHER PEOPLE'S WEDDINGS. Yay!

Haus Interior
Haus Interior in Nolita opened a few months ago and is the freshest, coolest shelter shop I've seen in a long long time. The painted floors alone make it worth a trip. The wares are great, mostly keeping in grey tones—which is the color—and priced very reasonably. They've got ample amounts of Fog Linen, Utility Canvas, Mud Australia as well as great vintage and one-of-a-kind items. Check it out at your next free moment: 250 Elizabeth Street, NYC.

Feelings about postcards
Matt and I are a little bit in limbo as far as our living situation goes. We're waiting on a few key details of our lives before we settle in a neighborhood of L.A.—especially since it's a commuter town and minimizing freeway time maximizes life time. I've got my temporary office set up which is great, but I'm missing all my paperweights, cork boards, clocks and numerous post cards that are still in a box marked "LG office". Right now I just have the one postcard that my friend Ashley recently sent me and it's neatly resting on my computer. The guy behind the postcard is her friend Justin Kerr of DIY or else. I don't know about you guys, but I personally have solid emotions about calculator watches, I'm for them!

Smythson of Bond Street
I split my day in thirds today spending the morning in L.A., mid-day in Orange County and ended up having dinner in San Diego. At this rate I guess I'll be in Tijuana by dawn. The highlight of the day was definitely going to the Beverly Hills Smythson store to order our wedding invites. The staff there is extremely patient and took great care of us, even after I completely changed my mind as we were walking out of the store and wanted to start over. I owe thanks to my friend Heather who suggested I check out Smythson (the British stationer) as she used them for her invites which turned out great (thanks Heather!). And for all those stationery fiends out there, if you haven't heard the sad news, Mrs. John L. Strong is officially out of business. :(

Present&Correct
Last night our apartment went from still livable to very very sad as we packed away lots of our favorite stuff. It's amazing how different a place can look by simply taking away all the books. It was especially hard to do since we have house guests coming this weekend for the Fourth, but I'm sure we'll survive for another week. Understandably it's been a little hard to get excited and inspired about furniture, but how great are these air mail envelopes and mail accessories from Present&Correct!? Now that's something I can relate to right now. And even more awesome are their colored masking tapes. (via Yellow Owl Workshop blog).
