Crossed off the last art museum in Singapore that I still had on my list...
Jeremy and I went without the kids (who were in school) on our federal holiday (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day). The museum portrays Singapore during many different 10-year intervals. They also had a British exhibit of artefacts from around the world.

40
Turning 40 does not creep up on one. One can see it coming for quite some time. Therefore, it doesn't feel any different. However, one sometimes needs to remind one's spouse, so that it doesn't creep up on THEM!
Jeremy did a great job. I told him that I wanted a get-together with friends and that I didn't want to plan it. He went all out. Here are his pictures:
He arranged the party to be at Stacy Torfin's gorgeous house in our neighborhood, Teri Stringham to make the cute, delicious cake (and some decorations), and Erika Garner to order food from "Dial-A-Curry." Melissa Dunham pitched in with the drinks and Analea was cutting and preparing all sorts of fruits all day. Jeremy removed all of the decor we have purchased around during our travels here and moved them into Stacy's house (paintings, too!). Jeremy also created a slideshow of numerous photos also from all of our travels while living here. He had a few of our Putamayo CD's playing in the background and had purchased a large map where he had circled all of the places I have visited in my current 40 years and had everyone circle or write in where in the world they had visited and thought that I should go in my next 40 years. The guest list included long list of church and work friends. We had a lovely time and turnout.
Friday: Parker spent the morning throwing up; Sarah went in to work at lunch and Jeremy came home at lunch; party in the evening
Saturday: ballet as usual; nap in the afternoon; Sarah and Jeremy went to Universal Studios for an hour or two to ride some roller coasters; had Haagen-Daas chocolate shake (a real treat--real ice cream shakes in Singapore are just hard to come by as a shake is considered milk--also uncommon--with chocolate syrup that they shake really, really hard)
Sunday: actual birthday; Parker still had a fever the night before so he and Sarah stayed home from church, Jeremy had 6 a.m. meetings and the girls got there in a taxi; Jeremy grilled filet mignon and fried some diced potatoes; received a Cath Kidston purse as a present
Monday: U.S. Holiday; Jeremy and Sarah went out to lunch at a Vietnamese place in Chinatown and toured a museum

Noodle Man again
And here, I will thank a fabulous friend for taking pictures of another Noodle Man visit that one of our kids (Allison again) got to experience...and well as some of her Chinatown pictures that she let me "snag."
back to New Year's--parenting post
The sad thing about parenting is NOT missing the moments, it is missing the evidence of the moments. This can be the memory, but I have found that pictures always do better justice. The sad thing about parenting is not knowing enough people who will PRODUCE the evidence. Good things for fabulous friends or fantastic technology. I thank the latter for these pictures of Allison's church youth New Year's Eve dance.
