French Country Mini Album

Hi everyone, Welcome to my very first Cutter's Creek Store Design Post. My project today is an envelope and cards mini album. I did some modifications to the original tutorial which came from Kathy Orta. If you do a seach on Youtube for "Kathy Orta" envelope mini it will pop up for you. I used the Graphic 45 12x12 paper pad French Country. I have some pics of my album below but I also have a video which will show you every page. Some other products that I used for my album include: Scor-tape, I am partial to the 1/4 inch and a Prima Flower.

In the video, I mention that I use two different papers in the paper collection for mats and decorative elements. I have those listed below so that you can see what I mean. They ARE included in the 12x12 paper pad.

There are also other embellishments from this collection that would be really nice in a mini album.

I hope that you liked my project! Thanks for visiting me today.

Scrapbooking With Kim B

I have finally made it to the end of 2011 in my scrapbooking!  I can't wait to start 2012 and hopefully get more caught up.  It seems like I am getting more caught up each year, however those pictures just keep stacking up.......................lol!  AND, I have a new grand child on the way this year, so that means even more photos!  So once again, here is one of my favorite subjects my youngest grand daughter.

Do you find yourself using the same colors over and over all of a sudden?  I seem to be doing that lately.  I was using a ton of orange and now it seems I am using a lot of purple.  The background paper is dotted swiss and the accent paper is Anna Griffin which I used a decorative punch on.  The photos were matted using Perfect Layers (there is a coupon code on the right sidebar to order this awesome product!), thickers for the title, and some embellishments from my stash.

I sure would like to hear how you are accomplishing your crafting New Year's resolution, so please leave me a comment.

The Great Outdoors Layout with Lori

I have another Echo Park mini-theme layout to share with you today; this one is all about the Great Outdoors!  I personally don't do much camping; my husband says that my idea of roughing it is a hotel without room service.  He is just joking (I think!), but he has a bit of a point... so if you're like me you may wonder what use you may have for a "camping" kit.  Well, nicely enough, there are only a couple of elements that are specific to camping, and the pattern paper that has tents on it has plenty of other things on it as well to make it perfectly suitable for general outdoor pictures like hiking, picnics, and more.  Here's the first thing I've done with it:

These pictures are from a field trip to a local nature center.  The papers in this kit fit perfectly!  I cut one of the blocks from the Journaling paper to use as a title, and added a sticker element as a subtitle.  I used some more sticker elements and added them to some journaling circles - you can use punches or a cutting machine for the journaling shapes.

I used one circle to note the event and year.
I used another to point out how excited my daughter was to be there.
And I used a third, completing a visual triangle, to add a fun little image.

One little tip to note: one of the ricrac strips I added was a little bulky (the one at the top), so I popped up my smaller photos over it with foam adhesive so they didn't look lumpy.  To balance things out, I also popped up the small photo at the bottom right.

You can make a similar layout with just a few items:

That's all for today; thanks for stopping by!  We hope to see again soon.

This & That Echo Park Layout and a Contest with Lori

If it seems like the This & That collections have been getting a workout from our DT, there's good reason - they are awesome!! Echo Park has really knocked one out of the, well, park, with these beautiful designs from Lori Whitlock. My favorite part is that the two collections, Charming and Graceful, can work together as well as they do alone.

Today, I'd like to share with you a beautiful layout I created using a contest sketch from Echo Park.

Would you believe there is not a single piece of solid color on this layout anywhere?  I just love the easy way the patterns are able to be mixed & matched so easily.  All of these papers are from the Graceful collection, except the green pattern I used for the banner; that is from Charming.  I distressed the edges of the pink & brown papers, used a stamp to duplicate stitching, and used some twine on which to hang my banner stickers.  I also used some of the coordinating embellishments, which Kim does not carry, but you can also use stickers & items from your stash.

Items available from Cutters Creek:
  • Echo Park Paper, This & That Charming and Graceful collections
  • twine (choose from Doodlebug Designs or Sew Easy)
Now, about that contest I mentioned.  I'm not able to share that sketch here, because you have to get it yourself.  If you'd like to find out all of the details, as well as see a second page to this layout using the same sketch, be sure to visit my blog when you're all done here.

A Boy's Life Layout with Lori

I am just loving the new A Boy's Life collection from Echo Park Paper!  It's really helping me get some pictures in my scrapbooks, and this time I decided to work on some older pictures I've been neglecting.  The best part is that the colors in this collection work so well with a lot of things you probably have in your stash.

I even pulled out my Cricut Imagine (which I've also been neglecting!), since I was documenting a birthday party, and there wasn't much in the stickers that would work for that.

I printed & cut my title image from the Imagine More Cards cartridge.  I sanded & distressed all of the layers.  Then I inked the bottom layer using an ink pad in my stash that darkened the blue enough so that it would better match the papers.  I popped up all of the layers using the ASI Kool Tak clear foam squares.

These journaling circles were printed & cut from the Imagine More cartridge - they are the notebook paper centers of a flower.  The distressed feel of both the Imagine More and Imagine More Cards cartridges are a perfect match for this collection.  I popped the circles up also, because of the ribbon bulk, and added the "a perfect day" sticker from the collection.

Lastly, I added a banner using stickers from the collection and a white gel pen.  One additional item to note:in order to match the distressed feel of the papers, I used a white core cardstock and sanded it all over with fine sand paper (220) to lighten it in spots.

Items available at Cutters Creek:
Other:
  •  cardstock with a white core (I used CTMH)
  • hole punch (I used the Crop-a-dile) and eyelets
  • coordinating ribbon (I used American Crafts)
Thanks for coming by today!  Hope you come see us again soon.

Mother & Daughter Layout by Vicki

I am more of a scrapbooker than a stamper, but I wanted to take an opportunity to show that stamps aren't JUST for cards. You can use them in your scrapbook too!

Our family took a cruise two years ago, and we enjoy getting professional pictures taken by their staff. (This is typically some of the only photos of ME, since I'm usually the one with the camera!) As we're coming up to Mother's Day, I thought this picture of me with my daughter would be appropriate.

This is a large 8x10 picture, so I didn't want to overwhelm it with lots of fancy papers. I started with a plain white piece of cardstock, and dressed it up with Inkadinkadoo Sketchy Flourishes stamps (special order). I used an embossing ink, like the Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad-Clear (For Embossing) and stamped the image on my page. Next, I sprinkled an ample amount of Ranger Super Fine Embossing Powder over the stamped image. Once the image is covered in powder, gently lift the paper, and lightly tap the paper to get rid of the excess powder. Finally, using a heat tool such as the Heat It Craft Tool, warm up the stamped and powdered image on the paper. It's important not to get too close to the paper with the heat gun or your paper will discolor! It's amazing to see that embossing powder turn into a shiny stamped image. Don't keep the heat gun on too long, or it will actually over melt the embossing powder. I did two images in black, and a third image with some red glittery embossing powder from my stash.

I actually did make a mistake - and had a fourth image embossed - but it didn't turn out at all...so instead of starting over, I artfully hid that corner with paper! I used a black Bazzill corner, and topped that with a piece of American Crafts Foil Cardstock.

To finish this off, I made a title on my Gypsy, using one of my new favorite fonts from Quarter Note. I welded the words Mother and Daughter, and cut each of these on more American Crafts Foil Cardstock in silver and red.

I am really pleased with the way this simple layout turned out. Hopefully, my daughter will treasure it for a long time!

Tutorial Tuesday: Glimmer Mist with Laura

Hey, I'm so excited to be here for a Tutorial Tuesday!! More Glimmer Mist fun ahead!! Today I'm going to take you on an Under Sea Adventure with Glimmer Mist!

Here's a nice start to a scrapbook page about a snorkeling excursion we went on.

It's simple, nice enough, but watch what a little Glimmer Mist can do!!

First, using my Bazzill Splat Mat as my work surface, I did a little "test spray" of each color I wanted to use to see how they would look together. I decided to use Tiger Lily, Patina and Dragonfly. I also spritzed my title card with a little light spritz of each.

Next step, was to layer two of the stencils on my blank cardstock....

...and then spritz lightly over them with all three colors (one at a time!). I removed one of the stencils so you see how this will look:

Then to create depth, a different way to use the stencils, is to spray the mist directly ON the stencil like this:

And then put the stencil mist side down on the paper and press down. The best way is to lay a paper towel on top and then use a brayer over the stencil. This makes a "stamped" image on the cardstock like this:

To finish, because I wanted a softer look, I did a "color wash" technique. I sprayed the lighter Patina color over the page one area at a time (about 1/6 of the page at a time) and then quickly wiped it off with a paper towel. You can see the soft streaked effect, especially at the top of the finished page:

So now take a look at the SAME pictures and title, with just a couple of finishing touches on the Glimmer Mist page. WOW....what a difference, huh?? I finished the page by trimming the paper down by 1/4 inch on both sides, distressed the edges and used Tim Holtz Tumbled Glass and Vintage Photo distress inks, applied with the ink applicator and foam pads, and mounted on black cardstock. A journal strip and a few brads finish it off.

And here is a look at my complete two page layout!

Check out these great products at Cutter's Creek!!

Homecoming With Vicki & Her Special Daughter

Scrap Project 009

My daughter is one of my favorite subject to scrapbook, because she is very photogenic. I thought it would be nice to highlight her great homecoming outfit...and all the girly 'trimmings' that go along with it!!

I started with some paper from my stash. This paper already has a lot going on with it - so I knew I didn't need a lot of embellishments. However, the black and white design would really serve as a great background for her bright red dress. Since this was an opportunity for the kids to really dress up, what better way to highlight the occaision, than to use some of that great American Crafts foil paper!

Scrap Project 008

The title was cut using the Cricut Locker Talk cartridge, using the "Homecoming" title out of basic black Bazzill cardstock, set on top of the title shadow, cut on the silver foil paper. On the second page, the year was cut out of the same black cardstock from the Gypsy Font from my brand new Gypsy! It turned out that there was a border on the Gypsy Wanderings cartridge that matched the floral pattern perfectly. I cut it at 11.5 inches, which isn't quite a full border, but it worked with the background paper. (If I really wanted a 12 inch border, I could have used my 12x24 mat on my Expression.)

Scrap Project 007

I set my photos before adding my embellishments, as I wanted to layer some of the fun Petaloo Color Me Crazy flowers on top of the pictures. I colored my two flowers with my Copic markers, using R24 (Prawn) for the base, and R29 (Lipstick Red) for some highlight lines and edges. Using Copics on these flowers is really easy - the blending occurs naturally because the paper is so porous. (HINT - always color on a mat or scrap paper because the color WILL bleed through these flowers!) The flowers were placed with a drop of Glossy Accents, and then a simple Twinkle Jewel was added to the centers of each flower. It still needed a little BLING - so I accented the inside edges of the "2010" using a simple silver metallic Sharpie. I also added dots around each of the Petaloo flowers to make them stand out. Finally, I used some Liquid Pearls in Pewter to add centers to several of the floral shapes on the background paper, just to make them stand out a little bit more.

So get out there and step outside the 'boxy' look of layouts. Place your pictures at fun angles, overlap embellishments, and don't be afraid to draw a little bit!

Snow Forts 101 by Laura C.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This scrapbook page is made using a technique called "faux silk" and the new Tim Holtz "Snowflurries" texture fade. I cut 3 mats from white cardstock: 4"x6&1/2", and two 4 1/2"x5 1/2". These were run thru the cuttlebug using the TH snowflurries folder. The technique is then to take white tissue paper, cut about 1" larger than the above pieces, and then crumple it up. Gently flatten it out (not too much!). Now, using a glue stick, doing only ONE piece at a
time, generously cover the snowflake embossed piece (make sure to get in all the nooks and crannies as best you can!).

PB040069

Then put the tissue paper on top and smooth it over.....again, you WANT WRINKLES!! Finish
all three pieces of cardstock, then use a heat gun to help dry the glue. Once dry, cut the excess tissue down to about 1/2", then adhere to the back with your favorite adhesive (this is like "wrapping a present" and you can miter the corners (clip the point off) to make it a bit easier). Next step.....use TH distressing ink in stormy sky (or whatever color matches your project!) with a touch of forest moss, applied with a foam applicator.

PB040073

I then centered red cardstock pieces--I cut 2 smaller red 3 1/2" by 4 1/2" and one larger red 3 1/2" by 5 1/2". The pics were trimmed to fit the red exactly lengthwise and they are all 3" high. The strip on the left is 2" wide and there is a strip of red under the ribbon that is 1 1/2". I embellished with buttons and bling from my stash. My letters are thickers....but a perfect touch would also be letters cut out on the cricut, using AC glitter paper in rouge!!

The faux silk technique is wonderful.....try just sponging backgrounds, whatever.....you can get so many looks from this, whether you are making pages, or cards.

Available at Cutter's Creek:
Tim Holtz Texture Fades (snowflurries/snowman set)
Tim Holtz alcohol ink applicator tool
Inkssentials foam applicator pads
Tim Holtz distress ink (forest moss and stormy sky)

Cricut Imagine, Me, & A Special Little Girl by Kim B

jadelyn lo rev

I am one lucky Cricut Circle Member, as at CHA Summer 2010, I was gifted an Imagine by Provo Craft. I have had it for about two weeks now and have completed my first layout using my Imagine. My subject was my new grand baby girl, Jadelyn. I think she is so stinking cute and am going to love scrapping all her photos. I have a large stack and I really need to get cracking, as babies grow up so very fast! Trust me, as a Mom I am still in awe that my children are all grown up and gone and just miss them so much!

Halloween Layouts with Mandi

Today I wanted to share two layouts that I created using my Happy Hauntings Cricut Cartridge! This is one of my all time favorites for several reasons. First, it has some really fun characters on it. Second, I LOVE the haunted house you can build. Third, it has TWO great fonts! And finally, it has some really fun word art!

For this first layout, Halloween 2008, I used the Spooky Font on the Happy HauntingsCartridge to cut the letters from some glitter card stock. Sadly (especially for my Cricut mat) I didn't have any of the fantastic American Crafts Glitter Cardstock. The "Trick or Treat" Phrase has two layers and for this title I cut it at 3" tall. I just love the spider in the "o"!

So, if you're one of those crafters who has a Cricut machine that's stuck in it's box, remember, you don't have to be an expert to create fun titles for your layouts! Some of the cartridges have some great ones built in!

Pirate Halloween by Lori B.

Think glitter is just for "girly" layouts?  Oh no, my friend, oh no.  Everything looks better with a little bling, and boys are no exception.  Two years ago, my son was a pirate for Halloween (yes, I know, I'm "behind") and I recently got around to scrapping those photos.  Complete with glitter and bling!

I used a simple sketch and mostly cardstock in order to keep the focus on the pictures.  Adding a touch of bling to a simple layout like this can really give it a pop.  Using American Crafts glitter cardstock, I cut my title using my Cricut and Happy Hauntings, and my pirate ship from Paper Doll Dress Up.  The cuts are adhered to my layout using Scor Tape.  The treasure chest is also from PDDU, cut from red CS.  I used my Crop-a-dile to punch the holes at the top of the blue mat and set the eyelets, then strung it with some hemp cord.

Wet and Wild by Lori B.

Summer may be over, but most of us still have plenty of pictures to scrap. (Mine are from 2006!) So here's a little Summer flashback to help you out!

I used a few tricks to get as many pictures as possible all in one place, but if you have fewer, this main layout is easy to replicate. I used some paper from my stash, but I think this would look stellar using just cardstock.

My Cricut cuts are made with Everyday Paper Dolls, Paper Doll Dress Up and Life Is A Beach, and I inked the edges of all the cardstock pieces with matching ink to add depth. I created the title using the alphabet on Life Is A Beach and my Gypsy to weld it all together. The elephant is from p. 75 of EPD, and his water spray is multiple cuts of the raindrops on p. 42. The sun is from p.40 of EPD, and the water and grass are both from p. 77.

But wait, there's more!  Here's a simple way to get a few more pictures on your page:
An accordion fold mini album is a great way to add a few more pictures.  I simply cut a strip of CS the width of my photos, and scored it the same size.  There are several ways to keep your album closed on your page, the easiest of which is just using a photo turn or large brad to slide an edge under.  I chose to use a D-ring type closure, like we all had on our belts in the 70's.  Be sure to cut away the sheet protector around the mini-album so it can be opened.

But wait, there's even more!  I had a LOT of pictures, so I added some smaller sheet protectors to my layout:

Note: I haven't added my journaling yet (it sometimes takes a while for me!), so that's what the blank places are for.  The palm trees are cut from p. 42 of PDDU.  As an alternative, there are a couple more on LIAB, I just liked this one best for this LO.  The octopus border is from p.54 of LIAB.

Spooktacular Layout by Laura C

This is a 12x12 layout that starts with the Basic Grey (BG) Lime Rickey collection.  The 12x12 lime green page is distressed around the edges and then inked in black.  The next layer is the orange polka dot from
Lime Rickey cut down to 6&1/4" by 8". This is also distressed and inked.  The photo is 4x6 and is double matted--first on a 4&1/4" x 6&1/4" piece of orange (from Lime Rickey) and then a 4&1/2" x 6&1/2" piece of lime green core'dnations from the Black Magic Spellcaster collection, that has also been distressed. The matted photo is then placed about 1&1/2" from the bottom and from the side of the orange polka paper.

From here, you can embellish and have fun.....I used a bat punch from EK success on a 1"x8" piece of black
cardstock, and placed this close to the bottom, then pleated and stapled on Halloween ribbon--the Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher is perfect! The medallions were made using the Cuttlebug A2 folder "Boo to You", and the same piece of Core'dinations cardstock. Once embossed, it was sanded to make the images "pop".  They were cut out with a 1 & 1/2" circle punch. The skeleton head circle is mounted on a 2" circle (distressed and inked) and then pop dotted.  The "boo" is just adhered with glue dots. An American Crafts pearl brad holds the "paper lace" in place (PS that was the bat punch that was punched on BOTH sides of the 1" strip of paper!).  The "scary" was adhered with glue dots, to a rosette made from a 1&1/2" x 12" piece of the polka dot from the Lime Rickey collection. After accordian folding this piece, I adhered the ends together with adhesive, and then the entire rosette, to a 2" circle of plain cardstock using glue dots.

Hope you get some inspiration for those "Spooktacular" fall and Halloween pictures you'll be scrapping soon!!

American Crafts Pearl Brads (Earth Tones)

It's All About Me by Laura B.

Have you ever thought about doing a layout just about you? It is a bit harder than I thought it would be, but it was very rewarding.

I pondered what I really wanted to say about me. What was my life like right that very minute. What did I want to remember? How did I feel? What were my favorite things?

I decided not to use any photos of me, but to instead include my favorite things. We all have those papers, embellishments, stickers, brads, ephemera, etc., that we just love. If you are like me, you save the small bits of your favorites, because you know you will find somewhere else to showcase them! For me, this became my showcase.

For the first page, I used journaling strips to describe me today. The date was November 15, 2009, and these were the things that really struck me as important facts, thoughts, and feelings I was having right now.

I typed all of my journaling onto my Bazzill cardstock, and then cut it into strips using my Cutter Bee Scissors. I ran strips of Scor Tape on the back of each strip for adhering them to my layout later.

Next I got out my 12x12 white Bazzill cardstock and started by drawing my grid. I wanted to have a grid and block system for this layout.

Each block measures 2.75" x 2.75". I used a 1/4" frame around the page and then a 1/8" space between the interior blocks. I drew my grids very lightly with pencil so they could be erased later.

For page one, I used 14 patterned paper squares from a paper collection in my stash that had been very well loved. Pink, black and white were colors that were currently my favorites. I adhered all of my blocks using my Glue Glider Pro. I left two spaces open for my title *see photo below*. I erased all of my pencil lines at this stage.

Next I added my journaling strips to random blocks. I left some blocks blank for embellishments. I added in buttons from my granny's button box, flowers from various sources, brads, Kaisercraft pearls and Kaisercraft rhinestones, ribbons, lace, pearl strands, and even staples.

I cut my title from thick cardstock and then used my Fiskars Corrugator to give it texture. I added the date using my Copic fineline marker in black.

For page two, I wanted to just have fun with it. I used the exact same layout for my page, but this time I only used nine 2.75" x 2.75 inch blocks.

This is where all of my favorites from my stash came into play. Everything on here was something I loved at the moment. Everything from paper, buttons, ribbons, pearls, rhinestones, stickers, pins, rub-ons, ephemera, and on and one was used to make this page. I was so grateful to have so many types of adhesive to use! I used my Glue Dots, Scor Tape, Glue Glider Pro, Fast Dry Adhesive and Beacon 3 in 1 Adhesive.

Just have fun and make a layout that says this is me. It is fun to look back and see how much I have changed in such a short period of time. My thoughts, concerns, worries and favorites are all different today versus just a few months ago.

Enjoy yourself and let your creativity flow~

Vicki's Blingy Easter Layout

I was one of the guilty one's...I was waiting on the edge of my seat for Cutters Creek to get the American Crafts glitter paper in stock. As soon as Kim posted the Spring pack, I was online placing that order! When it came, I was AMAZED! This paper is so pretty, so glittery, and so sturdy! It just screamed 'little girls' and I have twin godchildren in Kindergarten that I'm pretty sure will get some very pretty dresses to take pictures in! So, I created a simple, pre-made layout that my niece will be able to quickly add two photos to, and add to her scrapbook!

If you are a member of the Cutter's Creek Yahoo! group, you have probably seen the messages coming through discussing the best settings to use to cut this paper with your Cricut. Start with the following:
Pressure: High
Blade Depth: 6
Multi-Cut: 2
...and be prepared to ADJUST these settings for your Cricut. I had to do multi-cut 3, and still had a few areas that needed cleaned up, however, I probably need to change my blade as it is rather well-used. Intricate cuts, such as the grass on the bottom of my layout, will also require some help from a razor blade, to finish some of the cuts and clean up the edges. Simple shapes, like the egg SVG's, cut cleanly and quickly! I did have one boo-boo, where I put my paper on the mat in the wrong direction (I hate when that happens) - but rather than throw away the bad cut, I placed an egg on the 'edge' and made it look like it belonged there!

Adhering this paper to your layouts does not require any special adhesive. I tried several, to see what had the best success, but there was no single adhesive method that worked better than another. I love Glossy Accents, and turn to that as a regular adhesive when I've failed with other adhesives. I used that for the words "Happy Easter" - and did get some paper buckling under one of the corners...but other than that, all my favorite adhesives worked just fine!

I can't wait to see their pictures pasted in these sheets!
