The Royal Report: A Love Story

Since the Royals announced the engagement of Britain's biggest bachelor, (Prince William) to sweetheart Kate Middleton, back in November, we've all been anticipating the details of what most consider to be the most lavish wedding of the decade.  Since our invitations must have gotten lost in the mail, we've decided to bring you all the wedding highlights and updates from Kate's grand entrance to the official engagement photos taken by Mario Testino (pictured below).

The love story began nine years ago, when Kate and William both attended St. Andrew's University in Scotland and blossomed into a romance when the Prince decided, "we just spent more time together, we had a good giggle and realised we shared some interests" (The UK Telegraph reports). After dating for eight years, the 28 year old, proposed while the couple was travelling in Kenya with his late mother's (Princess Diana's) royal rock. The most romantic gesture was how the Prince wanted to include his late mother in their new life together by proposing to Kate with this 18-carat sapphire and diamond ring (below).

With the wedding date set for 11am on April 29 at Westminster Abbey, it was just announced on Twitter that the couple will be arriving by car, but if you want a glimpse of the newlyweds, they will be routing on carriage to Buckingham palace after the ceremony. The schedule will include a service by three churchman, a reception hosted by the Queen at the Palace and of course no wedding is complete without dinner and dancing. Rumour is that Sir Paul McCartney has been asked to entertain that night. Other rumoured guests include David Beckham and Posh Spice.

Now the biggest question that's on everyone's mind is what will the bride wear? (no pressure Kate).

Friday

Friday Follow (#FF) with Lori Hutchinson

Name: Lori Hutchinson (The Caketress)

Occupation: Cake Designer

Who is your role model:

Betsey Johnson (quirky and lovable fashion designer)

What do you like most about your job:

Being able to create artistic and interesting cakes for amazing couples.

Daily ritual:

I really don’t have a ritual. I’m actually very random on what I do everyday but when I comes to cakes I usually am always in search for beautiful things that inspire cake designs.

The most rewarding part of my job is:

Knowing I was able to create something beautiful for people celebrating their life’s special events.

What has been your favourite cake and why?

That’s a tough one but I’d have to say I loved making this five foot tall cake with hundreds of edible flowers and 24k golden scrolls for one of my bride’s Jasmine. Sometimes you have an instant cake chemistry from cake designer to bride and Jasmine and I had so much fun “cake plotting” her wedding cake that it made me want to push myself o give her the best cake.

Where do you go for some retail therapy:

I have a weakness for anthropologie. I heart everything in that store.

Memorable celebrity encounter:

Tom Cruise when he was doing interviews for Vanilla Sky.

Favourite hangout:

Chapters, though I have a bad habit of not actually buying anything and reading for a few hours with chai latte in hand.

Favourite childhood memory:

Playing dress up and “borrowing” my grandma’s costume jewelry as accessories.

If there was more time in the day you would:

Take dance classes.

Favourite social network: Facebook

Thank you to the talented Lori for sharing her inspirations with us and we look forward to seeing more of your beautiful creations in the new year. You can follow today's #FF, the Caketress on Twitter.

Friday Follow (#FF) with Lisa Van Hattem

Name: Lisa Van Hattem

Occupation: Owner/Designer Lisa Van Hattem Custom Bridal Gowns

Who is your role model/mentor:

Anyone who is self employed and in a creative field. I think anyone who follows their passion in the arts is someone I want to know. It takes a lot of guts and a bit of craziness to put yourself out there in a creative way, hoping to get paid for it.

What do you like most about your job:

Being a part of someone’s memory at such a special time in their lives. They will always remember their wedding gown. It also makes me want to do the best job possible.

Daily ritual:

Make a cup of tea, turn on the news and check my email , plug in the iron. Oh, and of course say “Morning!” to my BFF on messenger. Then I spend the day in my work room or doing fittings, usually running between the two. Make dinner, go to the gym and then a little more work . Once I feel I have gotten enough done on my to-do list, I finally hit the hay with a book.

Is there an event you didn’t get to go to but wish you had:

I really regret not going to see U2 when they were in Toronto. Seeing them in concert is on my bucket list.

Favourite dress design and why:

My favorite designs are always the most recent ones I am working on. I always like what is new. I also think that with each dress my skills improve. Right now I am loving anything with hand made flowers as I haven’t done a lot of that before, but they are turning out really nice!

Memorable celebrity encounter:

Believe it or not, I was in Harrod’s London in the wedding gown department looking at the dresses when my friend came over to me and whispered in my ear that on one side of me was Posh Spice and the other side was David Beckham. It was when Victoria was pregnant and they were planning their wedding. My friend was strongly suggesting that I give them my card! Being a professional I didn’t think it was appropriate to give them my card in another persons bridal shop. Man, sometimes I am too nice (and a little shy!) And yes, he is that handsome in person.

Favourite hangout:

In my hot tub sipping a glass of wine with my special someone.

Which designer do you like to wear when you’re not designing?

I wish I was wearing more of BCBG/ Diane von Furstenberg, but usually it is something casual and more practical. I am enjoying the store Zara at the moment.

Favourite childhood memory:

I remember laying in bed at night listening to my mom sew in the next room. I found it amazing that you could create something out of nothing. The obsession started early.

If there was more time in the day you would:

In theory I would like to spend more time with friends and family but in reality I would likely spend it decorating my house or baking.

Favourite social network: Facebook.

A Dark Affair

A new standard has been set; on the quest for wanting to break away from the expected traditions at a wedding, some of our brides crave making a bold gesture. For example instead of seeking out the snow-white invitations, flowers, wedding cake and table designs, and even bridal gowns these brides are drawn to making a statement by adding a shade of noir to their wedding. Driven by adventure and possessing an eye for unique style, these brides are recognized as individualists. With a theme so daring and so fresh, your guests are in for one big surprise!

When making a deliberate expression of personal style keeping a few considerations in mind are key; here are our top four easy and simple tips on how to pin-point a theme while staying true to your sense of self:

1. Think outside the box: Find inspiration around you. Whether it be while running at the breathtaking sea-wall or simply while you are eating at your favourite restaurant, look to your surroundings and find something that catches your eye and stands out from the crowd.

2. Be Bold. Be Courageous: Don't be afraid to take a leap. Consult your wedding planner, your best friend, and of-course, your lovely fiance.

3. Keep it Personal: While you may want to dive into a pool of outrageously unique ideas and trends, be sure that it contains a splash of your personality.

4. The Sky is the Limit: As Katherine Hepburn so eloquently said "If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun."
