Our list of Favourite Things to Do In Vancouver Around the Holidays

If you're thinking of staying in and around the city for the holidays, there are plenty of things to see and do in this beautiful city. Our little helpers have compiled a list of the best kept secrets to keep you entertained and get you in the holiday spirit.

1.) Vancouver's Winter Farmers Market at Nat Bailey Stadium takes place every Saturday from 10am -  2pm and you'll find all locally harvested, fresh meat and produce. Our favourites are the homemade jams, maple taffy, fine fudge and peanut brittle. If you're feeling guilty about the holiday calories, there are plenty of gluten-free, sugar-free, vegan treats as well. The added bonus is the buskers that provide family friendly entertainment.

2.) As we get closer to Cristmas Day, one of our favourite places to go is Kerrisdale Village (0pen Saturdays noon-5p) Such a quaint place to shop and the best part is all the free attractions, which include horse & carriage rides, live music and meeting Santa!

3.) The holidays aren't complete without a lights show. The Festival of Lights will make you want to decorate your block, so it's visible from Mars. Dancing Lights on Livingstone Lake light show includes two different shows in the hour. The kid in all of us will appreciate the Candy Cane model train and choir concerts. Santa makes four appearances daily from Dec.10 - 24.

4.) Now if you feel like riding the actual trains, visit the 13th annual Bright Lights in Stanley Park and enjoy the scenery as you go through the forest and watch 2 million lights.  For 9$ your admission also includes visiting the children's farmyard.

5.) Of course, you can't go shopping without noticing the creative and whimsical window displays. One of our favourite places to visit is Woodward's Window Displays located in five different locations across downtown Vancouver. Take the walking tour to discover these hidden gems.

From the team at CountDown Events, we want to wish you a very Merry Holiday Season and Happy New Year!

Holiday R&R: Willow Stream Spa at the Fairmont Pacific Rim

We know that the holidays can be a stressful time of year, not just for brides, but when you add family + shopping deadlines in the mix, we can all use a little R&R.  We recommend you take some time out for yourself, sneak away alone to get centred or gather your closest GF's and enjoy each other's company at one of the most tranquil and luxurious spas that Vancouver has to offer. Willow Stream Spa is just the place to de-stress and look refreshed before any special day.

Located on the 5th floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim, by the ocean, it includes nine treatment areas, including a Nail Spa, Zen tub, yoga studio and you can re-fuel on delicious lunch and dinner options before or after your treatment as well.

Brides should also take advantage of their "glowing bride" package, which includes a deep cleansing facial with vitamin C to achieve that "glow". They also offer bridal make up trials and my favourite, "bridesmaids in paradise", including a massage, facial, mani and lunch. For a limited time, they are also offering the "Urban Spa Explorer package," which includes  bundled 30 min. services for 99$ (for two) or $149 (for three) and  it makes the perfect Christmas gift!

Book your appointment by calling 604-695-5550 or visit them on Facebook.

Name: Lisa Ng

Occupation: Catering Sales Manager at Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver

Who is your role model/mentor:

All my grandparents, they came to Canada not knowing English and not having a lot of money. But they taught me the values in life and they taught me that hard work does pay off.

What do you like most about your job:

The people. Planning the perfect menu for each and every event and exceeding expectations.

Daily ritual:

Get up, grab my iPhone and check my email, then my Facebook (yes I am a Facebook addict). Then I will have a cup of tea, jump in the shower and get ready for work. I get to work and I have to have another cup of tea and some toast.

What has been your most memorable event at the Four Seasons?

Well, it probably wasn’t the most over-the-top-event, but a more humble event for an elderly couple who were celebrating their 80th birthday and also their 60th wedding anniversary. They were the cutest couple. They had so much energy, such a good outlook on life.

Is there an annual event that you look forward to attending?

Crème de la Crème, the months of hard work and finally seeing it through! It’s quite the event!

Memorable celebrity encounter:

I think celebrity is any chef and I have had many. Like Lynn Crawford, Anthony Sedlak, Todd English, Ned Bell, Chuck Hughes, Michael Smith and Michael Chiarello. My favourite is Lynn, she was so nice and down to earth!

Favourite hangout:

At home with good friends over for dinner

Which designer do you like to wear for an evening out?

DVF, BCBG, Tory Burch and Pink Tartan.

Favourite childhood memory:

Helping my grandmother make dinner. The first dish she taught me to make was a pork patty with mushrooms which, to this day, is my favourite dish. I think this is why I love to eat and cook so much!

If there was more time in the day you would:

Go to the gym and cook more!

Favourite social network:

Facebook

Favourite Blog:

All the good food blogs… it changes with my appetite.

Last website you visited:

Martha Stewart – I needed a cookie recipe

Anything else you'd like to add:
(YEW restaurant + bar is the place to be during the holidays. Festive lunches, dinners, brunches, cocktails – if you want to get in the spirit, look no further.
