As I said in a chapter in my book Radio by the Book (which I’m quite sure you’ve all read, right?), Mystery in the Air was predicated on the
idea that it is entertaining to listen to Peter Lorre go insane each week. This
time, he’s an illusionist whose rival attempts to steal his blind wife by
learning to imitate his voice and mannerism. Naturally, Lorre’s character
doesn’t handle this well.
