Cheer

Hi everyone, it's Geli. I'm back!
My Hannah is passionate about cheerleading and her team won the latest competition. I'm so proud of her! Here is a layout to celebrate her latest victory:

Do you hoard pretty paper? I do. This one (by Heidi Swapp) has been in my stash way too long. There were a few pink bits, which I painted white with gesso, cause they wouldn't match the black and yellow colour scheme. The shield shape was outlined with a black rhinestone chain. That was easy, I just glued it down 10cm at the time. Still, the paper looked a bit bland, so the middle got a bit of a black wash. (simply outline the position of the photo and go crazy with paint and water):

It didn't look that great at this point, but once the photo went on top and one side of a black felt frame was attached, things were starting to look pretty cool.

Have you seen the new framed sentiments? I wanted to write on the banner and while digging through my letter stickers I discovered some old rub-ons from prehistory. I managed to almost find enough letters for "cheer", but had to fake the "h" with a "q".

At this point I realised that I could either give the archeologist of 3013 something to dig up or use those letters up! (I have other cool ideas for grave goods to puzzle future generations) In other words, using them to frame the photo seemed like a good way to put them to use.

This pretty yellow frame comes with a pin too and there are lots of colours! Find them all here.

Have you taken adventage of the 5c sale at my2angels yet? Spend $5 and get something like this black felt ribbon for 5c!

I cut some stars off and painted the inside with Ferro metal effect textured paint. This stuff is really cool, it has a gritty texture but keeps its metallic shine.
Then I added a crown charm (after all, they won!)...
...and a yellow star flower
The cheerleader's pom poms and the star flower are also painted with the same metal effect paint. Pretty cool that it sticks to metal!

Hannah loves her page and I hope I have given you some inspiration!

Yum!

How cool is it to stop by the side of the road and eat blackberries to your heart's content! We're making this funky little page in my home class next week.

There are groovy little felt circles...

...some stamping and Sew Ribbon stitching...

...and sparkly letters...

... similar to the ones I did for the last post:

This one has the new sugar beads from my2angels. If you like those on your letters, follow this link to see all the colours available.

We can cut chipboard letters on my Cricut if you don't have any, they will look like this:

Throwing pebbles - how to use unloved papers

I've been cleaning out my paper stash. OMG, it really needed it. Some papers have been sitting there for 5 or more years and I couldn't see myself using them. Most of it went to fellow scrappers who were happy to give them a new home and hopefully some use.

But then this little ugly duckling fell into my hands...

... not something I would have picked out at a shop (it came in a gift pack), but it seemed to go well with the blues and aquas I had in mind. So instead of chucking it out I decided I was going to give it some Peeping Tom powers and frame it with yet another unloved paper that had just the right teal colour. By using those 2 in small dosis, I actually kinda like them.
And of course, there is a cute felt garland (found the idea on Pinterest here) Again, just using up odds and ends from the brad stash.

I'm really pleased with the outcome and now I'm wondering maybe I should have kept all those ugly ducklings from the paper stash... No, really, it feels great to clean out.

Captain Red- introducing our new cat

One Thursday evening a ginger tomcat moved in. No, we didn't find him, he found us, made himself at home and adopted us as his new family. He's ours now (we checked, he didn't have an owner) and we call him
Captain Red.

We will do this page in class next week. I scraplifted my own layout I had in Scrapbooking Memories early this year, but this time we will do a different version of a felt flower with a bottle cap. One with a twist, so to speak.

Would you like to learn how to make ruffled ribbon like this? I'll show you in class.

Create an album with me pt 4

Here is my 4th page for Heidi's album. I am including all instructions so you can make one too! I am using the beautiful This & That collection from Echo Park and embellishments from my2angels to make a whole album with lots of photos and hidden journalling. If you have missed the first 3 pages, find the links at the end of this post.

So, this is my latest page, all about the summer festivals we used to visit in Russia. Russians love these festivals and they happen all summer long, all over the place. They will camp out in the forests and there is lots of music everywhere. It is such a wonderful, friendly atmosphere and it's ok to just sit down at anyone's tent and start singing with them. We used to joke that the camp food was full of vitamin D (dirt), cause it's all cooked over the campfire and out in the open. Still, it was yum.
The front photo is one of my favourites taken at a festival. It's awesome how even older people join in and don't you just love the look on the left man's face! Makes you wonder what was going on between those 3...

The photo mat flips out to reveal 5 more photos, like this.
It's very easy to do and you can make yours as long as you want, in case you have a lot more photos to add.

I cut 2 strips from white cardstock: 4 1/4 x 12" and glued them into  one long strip and scored the strip every 6 1/4".

I inked it all so you can see it better. Fold it like a zig-zag.You can also tell that I had made a couple of mistakes when I folded it all, but no worries, it will be hidden. The last, shorter section will be for gluing and journalling.

Now add your photos on both sides (it holds 6 photos of 4x6") and a little tab to open it. Remember, you can make it longer to hold more photos.

For the background cut 3 flags (3x8" each) with a swallow tail at the bottom. Also cut a mat (4 1/2 x 9 3/4") and ink everything before sticking it down. Distress Stains come in a bottle and make a quick job of inking. The walnut colour is my favourite, it goes with absolutely everything. The white background is inked too, but I couldn't fit it into the photo.

Now add your photo strip by gluing on the smallest section only.

Let it sits in the middle when it's closed, like this:

Add an inked flag strip (cut it out from one of the papers of the collection) and glue a tiny doily with a resin flower on each of the 3 big flags. I have a die that cuts these doilies, but you could punch some or use plain circles too.

You can make rolled flowers from a spiral. I borrowed a friend's die, but you can do this with edge scissors. Start with a 4" circle and cut in a spiral so it looks roughly like this:

Start rolling from the outside. It won't look too hot at this stage, but keep going.

Roll until you get to the circle in the middle.

Now put lots of glue on that circle and glue the flower on it. Let it spring open a little.

I made a little cluster on the left of the photo. There is also a date pin (coloured in, so it would stand out), a guitar and a music charm, held in place with some brads and some mini leaves.

On the other side of the photo you'll find a felt heart and some star flowers with brads. I like the flowers best in white, because then I can colour them as I go with glimmer mist. And yes, there is a tiny lantern charm, too cute!

A round sticker, cut in half, hold down the ends of the flag strip and some letter stickers on the flags are the title.
Now write some stuff on the flap of the photo strip.

Done!

Express yourself competition

Wooohooo! My "Hippie Chick" layout been picked for the top 20 in the "Express Yourself" competition at the Brisbane expo in June! Check out the Facebook group here for some of the other entries!

Really, I am absolutely stoked and excited to be picked at all among all these scrapbooking goddesses. Just being in the exhibit is awesome for me. So far Scrapbooking Memories have been ignoring my existence, so it's a real confidence boost for me. My friends Gilly and Renee got in too. If any of you are going to be there please vote for me! (Cheeky, I know....)

New Trendsetter range from Websters

Recently the lovely Tracy from My2Angels sent me something nice:
The new Websters range “Trendsetter” is just what my inner hippie loves. The colour combo is so funky and unusual; I really like the orange, teal and bright pink together. I even bit the bullet and took a photo of myself. My neighbour was very obliging by growing a matching tree! You can find links to all the materials I used at the My2Angels blog.

The die cut paper makes a perfect background and I teamed it with a muslin frill and some baker’s twine to define the edge. Simply glue the twine on, it’s easy and doesn’t take long to dry. I made some felt flowers with a muslin backing that went really well with the hippie theme.

Then I cut out the cute VW Beetle  and butterflies. The little antennae are always a little tricky to cut out and I prefer to use flower stamens instead.

The vine branches  have been covered in Dimensional Magic with a little bit of glitter added.

The lamp post is covered in some foil

and the doily frame  has been embossed with embossing powder. There are so many ways to use chipboard!

The little resin flowers are fast becoming my favourites. You can add them to just about anything and they come in so many colours. The backs are flat and it makes gluing them on a breeze.
All in all, my inner hippie is pleased with the result!

"Free Spirit"

I had some photos of Leah with braids that I thought went well with the theme.
I cut around the tree and the birdcage a little bit to slide my photo under. Just for fun, there is a mini bird house charm. Do you like my VW Beetle on flower power?

There are the new Resin Cabochons flowers again and gosh, they are cute! I cut out one of the models too but without hair it looked very odd to me. So I made her some braids from baker’s twine to match Leah’s.

To make the rosette I punched a scallop border, scrunched it up and glued it behind a circle to look like a ruffle. Add some more baker’s twine to give it a cool border.

Have you ever wondered how the bottle cap embellishments are done? A mini tutorial is coming soon!

Thanks for looking! Leave me a comment if you like it.
