Kitchen - Day One

Day one in our project of painting the kitchen cabinet..and the day was spent prepping for the paint (laquer).

The very first thing done, was to set up a coffee bar in my office...and I forgot to set out my big coffee cup!

Then the next thing was to remove everything on top of the cabinet and on the counters and move out the appliances...

And rearrange to fit everything...

Cabinet doors and drawers were removed. Also removed were the hinges and handles - I decided that instead of spending money on new hardware, we'll just paint them and save lots of money.

Microwave all taped up and protected...

We covered the wall above and below with paper and plastic and LOTS of blue tape!

We left everything in the cabinets and sealed them up - this was very time consuming but we didn't want to deal with taking everything out and then putting everything back once completed.

We added this decorative applique to the face plate under the sink...I'm definitely not loving the cabinets now, could the woodgrain get any uglier?

Here's a better look at it, can't you just picture this all painted up in cream with brown glaze?

So yesterday was spent prepping... we've got a little more prepping to do and DH feels we'll have the kitchen primed, painted, glazed and sealed before the day is over.

Tommorrow we'll tackle the cupboard doors and hardware...

New Look and New Kitchen This Weekend

I'm so excited to have a new, more calming look to my blog..courtesy of Emily at Blogaholic Designs.

Next week I'm going to have my first giveway courtesy of Blogaholic Designs but for now I'll tell you about our project for the weekend.

This holiday weekend we'll be painting our kitchen cabinets.....

Notice all the white pitchers and ironstone on top? Way too much but I've been holding off on doing anything until this weekend...

If anybody just loves their oak cabinets - I'm sorry but I think they are so dated.

Today we'll be moving the appliances out and taping and taping and taping...

Here's a view of our pantry, can't imagine life without it.

Here's our very messy kitchen...I've been letting it go because...waiting for the weekend..

On Monday, DH put up crown molding to beef up the cabinets..

A closer look...well - I best get out there and help DH...

Enjoy the 4th! Can you believe it's that time of year already?

Moving and Clock Re-Do

My daugter and hubby closed on their house Monday afternoon and now they are unpacking and making their house feel like a home.

Monday night, here's what the kitchen looked like after Crystal and I wiped out all the cupboards and started to put things away. We spent 2 hours and it still looked like a bomb went off. I think the kitchen is probably the hardest thing to get organized over any other room in the house...

And you know it's time to quit when you're just looking for an empty spot to put something away!

I'm off from work today, so we're going to re-think some of the decisions in the kitchen and I'm bringing my handy, dandy label maker!

While we were working on the kitchen, DH was installing a ceiling fan in the living room. They bought a foreclosed home and the former owners took the ceiling fan with them.
DH has become pretty darn handy....he's definitely a keeper!

And my last picture that I must share, is the tub in the master bathroom. I would love to have this my home, wouldn't you?

Now I want to show you my latest project.
Last winter, I was looking for a clock to put in my bathroom and I found a one for $2 at the Dollar Store.
When I bought the clock, it was a bronze color, really not bad the way it was, but it didn't fit in with my shabby chic look.
So I spray painted it a cream color and into the bathroom it went...

Here it is in the bathroom before I changed things around..it fit in very nicely...

I got a different clock for the bathroom so this one is going to be going into the downstairs bathroom (one my list of things to redo - drives DH crazy that I have all these ideas, he can only process one at a time - definitely a male issue)...

I sprayed some adhesive made for leafing on the clock. (That's a frozen lemonade lid, covering the face of the clock.) This stuff gets really sticky, but it needs to be sticky for the leafing.

Here's a picture of the leafing, you can buy it in gold, silver and a mixture. I prefer the sheets of leafing versus the particles in a container..

And now I'm ready to start pressing it on..This clock took 2 sheets of the leafing and took probably 10 minutes, at the most.

Not the best picture but at the last minute I grabbed the camera. The clock is covered but I wanted it to be rusty and look older...

So I got out some glaze and used a rag and wiped it on. I let it set for a couple of minutes because I wanted it to really get into the crevices...

I love how it looks rusty and worn and for $2!
