Valentine Balsam Containers Goodness

If you've been to Michael's Craft Store, every so often they have these balsam containers
for sale. Let me show you how I altered all three of them.

I removed each knob and elastic band and added a flower and used velcro for the closure.
I got the metal sentiments at Michaels, the pack was $2.
The cute buttons are from Target.

I picked out three different Valentine papers and then painted each one
a color to coordinate. I did paint the entire box but after I was finished,
I realized that I only needed to paint the edges, sides and inside.

The cabochons are from The Cottage Market and are so pretty, aren't they?
Each one is different from the other and full of Valentine goodness.
I can't imagine anyone not loving to receive one of these, can you?

Thanks for stopping by today.

What I Learned While Making a Book Page Wreath

Last weekend, I decided to make a book page wreath for Christmas. So when Macie got up from her nap, she helped me roll the pages. Well, not really - I was already working on it while she was napping and as soon as she woke up, crafting time was over.

But she was interested in what I was doing. It's hard to get Macie to sit still for very long to get a
decent picture.

So this is what I was able to get rolled and ready to make my wreath.

I used a CD that I found without the case, my kids played this so many times when they were
in elementary school.

And I started hot gluing the rolls around the CD.
And just when I thought I had enough of these rolls, I rolled more.

For the second layer, I folder the bottom under so they were shorter and hot glued them around
the wreath until it was nice and full.

I had a great idea, or I thought so at the time...
how about making the wreath red with some glimmer mist?
That's when I noticed that the areas with tape didn't take the mist and it
stuck out really bad.

But I hung it up anyway, and it looked terrible.
My advice, don't try to change the color of the pages
and make sure the tape is on the back of the rolled paper.

From a distance it doesn't look so bad, but I knew it wasn't what I wanted.
So I took it down and torn off all the pages and started over.

And I am so happy that I redid it.

I'll be able to keep this wreath up even after Christmas is over.

And speaking of Christmas, five days away!
I still need to make a couple more batches of cookies.
Are you all ready for Christmas?

It's All About the Presentation, Right?

I don't know about you but with all the things that need to be done to get ready for Christmas, wrapping gifts is just another chore that has to be done.
I got into the habit of using a black marker and write on the wrapping paper who the gift was for.
No tag, no bow..just plain and not very exciting.

This year I decided give a little more attention to the presentation.
I was inspired by all the great pins on Pinterest and created a board, Gift Wrapping Ideas.

October Afternoon never disappoints me with their vintage flair and I can't imagine anyone not
getting excited when they receive their gift in this cute little package.

I also love how the October Afternoon designers used brown paper and then added
lots of embellishments to make each package extra special.

The idea of wrapping a gift in brown paper instead of Christmas paper is foreign to me.
But don't these gifts look gorgeous? And I can't imagine the recipient throwing the
burlap flower away.

I started planning what I wanted to do and ordered a variety of gift tags from Sweetly Scrapped Art.  Isn't this a fun tag?  I also visited Wal Mart and picked up a couple of spools of tulle.

I can only show a few of the gifts as my family reads my blog and I don't want to ruin the suprise.  For this gift I tucked in a candy cane that I had in my stash and wrapped  satin ribbon around the gift.  I ended up fixing the bow to make it cleaner looking.

I wrapped one gift in brown paper but I'm not loving it so I'll probably rewrap it.

Let me know if you take the time to make your gifts look pretty.

Last Minute Easy Christmas Craft Project

This Christmas season has flown by so fast and I really didn't get much accomplished in the
crafting department..although I did make a little something for my Secret Santa for work and
thought I'd share it with you...

It's very easy and if you have any of those peat pots leftover from last summer,
you can make one of these super fast and hand them out to
your co-workers, friends and/or family.

I made two baskets...so grab how many peat pots that you want to make and the
same number of pipecleaners and get your glue gun heated up!
I also used this holiday ribbon that I found at Goodwill for $1
but you can use any ribbon you want.

Simply wrap the ribbon around and glue it on...
you'll want to fold the corners down and glue it down
then I added ribbon to the bottom
but ended up taking it off...
glue the pipecleaner down to make a handle
(you'll straighten it out later)

Then add some lace and 2 different wide strips of muslin
and tie it up with some tulle.
I hot glued this candy cane chipboard element that I had in my stash.
Add packet of hot chocolate, a chocolate Santa
and some marshmallows...
and you're ready to give it away...

Super easy and very cute!

This is the other basket that I made, on the same concept as the first but
just by changing the embellishment - the look is completely different...

Baby Diaper Cake

A couple of weekends ago, my youngest daughter hosted a baby shower for her sister.
One of the must make items was a diaper cake..

I was inspired by this tutorial and we had fun putting it together..

We didn't take any pictures of putting it together because....
well, we weren't sure if it would turn out..

but we were wrong..

It turned out super cute and was the main attraction!
I used some glittery chipboard letters I had in my stash
to spell out BABY..

What a great gift to a new mom...lots of diapers, some toys, and a bottle of wine...

Picture of my two girls...
due date is 11/11/11...

Quilt Banner and Poms

When we were putting together ideas for the baby shower...one thing kept coming up..
POMS..

And while there are lots of tutorials on the web..I decided to make my own intepretation of them...

I used coffee filters and food coloring to make different colors...

And while they weren't exactly what we wanted for the baby shower....

I turned them into a banner with my tattered quilt that I've been recycling..

And now I have a soft and summery banner in our dining room..

I love the quilt and all the different colors...

And I'm happy to have another project made from the tattered quilt...

Who's the Boss in Your Kitchen?

One of my projects this summer has been to recyle this worn out quilt into things for our home.

I love all the different colors and materials which are soft and weathered..
It was hard to cut it up, I felt even guilty about doing it...

but once these first two pillows were made...

it felt like this quilt was being loved all over again..
and they fit in perfectly with the style of our home...

But theres a lot of quilt...so I decided to make some potholders..

and while it's the same concept as making a pillow,
the potholders were hard to make..

I think I broke three sewing machine needles making them..
all the layers of the quilt were too heavy..
these were a lot of work..

but they fit in perfectly with this vintage tin that I got many, many years ago
on eBay..

I hung the tin on the side of the refrigerator using some of those 3M removable hooks...

and here's the completed project.....
