Your Civic Duty

Hello friends! Recently I was called to sit for jury duty. I consider it an honor. It's a privilege to be asked to hear evidence and decide an outcome. Many people, though, don't like it, don't think it's a good way to do things, but everyone charged has a right in this great nation to have citizens consider their actions. While it's imperfect, it is the way we've had to protect the process.

This wonderful new set is Hedgehugs in the Occasions
catalog, on notecards - perfect for mailing!
I had information that we might be selected for 2 jury trials, one was a murder. As I sat watching the selection process, I was amazed by a few things.

People gripe. Before anything was done, people around me were already moaning about being there. Seriously complaining with all sorts of delightfully naughty words. They colored my opinion of them. I just wanted to stamp.

The Wood Textures patterned paper and Daffodil Delight
1/4th inch double-stitched ribbon make this a breeze!
The court process was smooth - a well-worn, efficient system. The first thing they did was pay us. All of us. Then we could sit and listen. Still the complaining. YOU GOT FREE MONEY. True, it was only $6, but a seated jury earns $40 a day. Whine.

Happy Wishes is one of the great items you can earn during Sale-A-Bration!
I love sequins. This is a brand new folder Scattered Sequins Dynamic Textured Impressions and
it makes me deliriously happy! The ribbon is Berry Burst finely woven ribbon with a
sweet self-adhesive sequin! What? Yay!! The paper is Color Theory ombre fade.
So I was sketching ideas for cards and dreaming about ink colors, techniques, the latest stamps in my studio...day dreaming. With a side of whine. On the phone. Whining about serving. Why is the court officer not snatching her phone??

As the judge went along telling us the process, he started asking different groups to approach if they fit the descriptions disqualifying them from serving. You know, like being older with health problems, a mother or father in full-time care of children, unable to sit and pay attention for 1.5 hours of testimony at a time. Whining continued.

This set called Party Pandas can be earned for Sale-A-Bration.
The silly sentiment is from a new set Birthday Wit in the Occsions catalog.
After we go through the 'easy' dismissals, the judge talks to us in terse language about how felons cannot serve. Two get up and leave. Really? How did they get on the list!?! Maybe they were recently convicted? I don't know.

The paper is Delightful Daisy from the AC, the Celebrate You die is a Sale-A-Bration
set, and the flower is from another Sale-A-Bration set Amazing You.
Then he talks about dirty crimes. Yes. Dirty little crimes. Thieving. Dirty thieving people. They cannot serve if they have been convicted of thieving. Not even if they've been arrest but not convicted of thieving. Thieves must be the worst in this judge's world. I mean, they're pretty low in mine too. Especially copyright thieves. Boo!

This darling box is new! You need it because you can fill it with
goodies! Lots to Love includes those darling small hearts and the
conversation-style hearts, too, plus the banner die! Squee!!
So the thieves were asked to come forward. There goes my whine. In her scrubs. To tell the judge she's a thief. Why couldn't she call and state that and avoid the whole thing? I suspect she likes whining about thieving. In public. On her fancy i-Phone with her thousand-dollar 2-inch custom nails. Lord, please forgive me for judging, but now I can't help but wonder what she thieved.

Did I mention this is a bundle? Yes!
A gorgeous bundle with the Sure Do Love You stamp set. And the
papers...swoon! I'll show you those in my next post. Divine with great embellishments!
The judge tells us he needs 64 people. I look around - there are maybe 80 of us left. His computer pulls a random list. I'm not on it. Not even mispronounced. I'm sad that I have to leave, but I'm glad to go play in my studio.

Hope your day is wonderful and whine-free!

Heartfelt Blooms

I understand a lot of people are under the weather right now. Whether that means under snow, rain, cold temps; a heatwave in Australia; the flu or dastardly cold or just cedar allergies. Did I get everyone? Ok, so there are a few of us just hanging out in our little goldfish bowl. Oh look! I have a castle!

The new Occasions catalog has been released by Stampin' Up! and it's a wonderful thing! Of course, Sale-A-Bration is going on as well. This year it's a little different (and I think you'll love it!).

Pop over to the online catalog!
There are 2 levels of free items to choose. As usual when you purchase $50 in product, you get to choose a free item from the SAB. However... when you spend $100 you get to choose a second-level item reserved only for $100 expenditures OR you can choose two of the $50 (level one) items. How fabulous is that!!! You can't buy these items, either! So hurry!

Here's one of my favorite sets from SAB. It's the Heartfelt Blooms set. I've paired it with a retired DSP because...hold onto your mouse, I'm giving this card kit FREE to the first 10 people who earn the Heartfelt Blooms set!

I'm doing this because so many of us get a long-awaited product in our hands then lose the creative vision of what to do with it. So, you'll get card materials pre-cut and ready for you to just jump in and make 3 cards!! Designer paper, cardstock, die cuts, glitter enamel dots and card bases! All you add is ink and adhesive.

Why is this stamp set blowing my mind? It is totally FLAT. When you get it, you'll wonder how on earth could that stamp anything.

See? FLAT as a bike tire when you're dying to ride.

Now, go shop the Occasions catalog and don't forget to pick up this stunning, one-of-a-kind stamp set. It's in the $50 tier!

My current host code is 9PMYTPCU. Host benefits go to the highest dollar purchaser at the close of this code.

I'd also like to take a moment to thank each of you who stopped by the blog during the Season's Givings hop. The winners have been notified and they are: Michele Smith - stamp set; Debbie Rumpza - Bible journaling kit. Thanks again!!

Head over and join my team!

And hey - if you'd like to get a really good deal and rake in more free stuff,
join my team!! Did you know? I'm part of Lydia Fiedler's Understand Blue team, and you can be too! Proven leadership, lots of support and the
most FUN team ever!!

You spend $99 (a $175 value) and pick your customized package of $125 plus pick 2 items from the SAB catalog! Woah!!

Best of all, you never have to host a party, create a class, meet minimum orders (unless you want to stay), or anything - just enjoy the 20% off savings!!

You can do this anytime between Jan 3 and March 31, 2018.
I'd love to spoil you! Click this link and follow the prompts.
Let me know if you have questions!

Stay tuned for more great projects from the Occasions catalog! Don't forget those Stampin' Blends markers and the upcoming Stamparatus!

Ta for now!

Thankful

Hello friends! It's been an incredible year for me. So many new experiences, lots of growing pains, but I am so very blessed! I'll keep this post short because we all have things to do and places to be.

I just want you to know, ya know, that I'm thankful for each of you. You've lifted me up, gone on crazy adventures, supported me when I wasn't sure, and shared your prayers for me with God. Do you know how incredible that is? You. Talking to God. About me! I feel extremely blessed.

So go on - get on with the celebrating for those doing the thanksgiving thing. For those who aren't, just know you are included in my celebrations in my heart. Thank you!

This card was created using the envelope punch board to make the notches, twine tied through the notches after stamping Butterfly Basics in So Saffron, Old Olive, and Cajun Craze. "Thankful" comes from Six Sayings (retired).

Three by Three for School

Hello dear sweet people! Happy Thursday to you!

Today I'm sharing a quick little project I made. I've been feeling the direction to encourage people to take tiny steps to affect a big change in other's lives. I call it the Positivity Project (I know that term is running around the interwebs, but I didn't know that when I started. Not trying to steal anyone else's idea.).

My goal is simple: Be kind. Back to school is a crazy, hectic time of year. All that running to and fro, trying to get the school supplies, learn a new schedule, and juggle everything is a power punch to the sanity. So let's dial it back just a little.

Card base is 3x6 inches scored at 3 inches, 'wood' paper panel is 2.75x2.75 inches.
Look around you. Do you see other frazzled people? That grocery clerk let you check out in her line even though she was closing up for lunch. What about that single mom dropping kids at three different schools? She got a little car damage and is wondering where the money is going to come from. She's on the verge of tears, but then dropped her coffee. I'm telling you, life is hard.

I'm making these small items just for occasions like this. Keep these little cards in your glove box, your purse, or briefcase. Hand them out to these people. HAND THEM OUT. You can write a note in them, or just give it with a hug and tell them to use that card to tell someone else they notice and care. Take just a second to feel the warmth. Don't let your ego get involved, however.

Here's a short video on how I made this set. Enjoy it and I hope it sparks you to do something for the Positivity Project!

Maybe you don't have time to make these, or you think it's too hard for you. Contact me and we can see if I can teach you or make these for you. I guarantee this is the best mood-elevating, love-stimulating, people-uniting act in the whole world! And believe me, we need it.

Take care and SHARE!

~ky

I used my MISTI, the Most Incredible Stamp Tool Invented, for this project.

I used my Overhead Cellphone Camera Mount to video this project.

New Product! The Camera Stand!

I'm so excited! I haven't been too keen on making new videos because I had this problem. My set-up was bulky, hard to manage, and I had to get up on a ladder to check to see if I was still in frame. It was a bear.

Then my friend, Lydia of Understand Blue, told me to not use my big honking 35mm video beast and simplify things. I love that about her. She's wildly funny, very pithy, and such a generous sharer with her tricks and tips. Simplify. (Are you nodding along with me?)

So many selfies!
Well, we went to convention. Together. A whole flock of little "Lydia's" in one town. I don't know how the city is still standing. We had a flaming BALL!! And I met this sweet lady, Katie, who shared her knowledge with me. DIY video stand for your cell phone!

Bev loves my little flower crab, Richard. We wuz HERE!
I about fell over dead because I'm pretty sure lightning just struck me right on the head. I was sitting next to Lydia. I'm sure that's what saved me.

When I got home, I went on the search, went to my second favorite toy store (Home Depot), and bought supplies. About 30 minutes later - eureka!

Yeah, I hope no one gets sea sick over this video. Like I said, I need help in videography! Heehee! The stand really makes a difference, though. And if you're like me... you have to clean that dinner table off to put dinner on!

Share it with your friends. I can think of so many non-crafters who would find this a big help too. I have a clickable link next to "Home" up there at the top. Click it. Order - I would love to make one for you, and you can even pick the color.

ALSO - If you'd like in on the fantastic madness and learn some sa-weeet stamping skills, check out Lydia's fall retreat: UNWIND at the Loft House! It will sell out quickly, so sign up soon!

Have a GREAT day! (Oh, and I'll have another video coming really soon, so check back!)

Letting Go

Hey I'm still alive! Yes! I've been working on a lot of things lately, and wanted to share an art journal spread with you. It's the first video I've done in quite some time! (I'm a wee bit excited, too!)

I've been chatting with a bunch of friends, and they tell me art journaling is intimidating. For some reason, everyone has this idea that you have to invest a lot of money for 'fancy' supplies that you have no idea how to use. I decided to help my peeps out and give you doable projects each month with a supply list.

Would you like that? I'll sweeten the deal. What if I give you a video using that supply list? A video that shows you a project from start to finish. Would you be interested?

If you order from me before midnight central time July 11, you can use the hostess code VBVWX679 and be entered in a drawing for hostess benefits (with qualifying purchase of $20).

I get all excited just thinking about it! So, here's the first project! SQUEEE! Do you love it? I had so much fun making this, and I got a video that shows you how I made it. At the end of this post, I listed everything I used. At first glance, it looks like a lot, but if you're a stamper, you likely have most of these supplies anyway. The quote reads "There is victory in letting go of expectations."

I'm always in favor of something that allows me to play more with toys I already have. Who needs all those unitaskers? I want mileage out of my money!

Let me know what you think. Would you be likely to give it a try? Does it look fun? Are you ready to grow your inner artist? Want something to keep the kids busy this summer? Jump in! Let's play!

Please note: The audio for this video came out very softly. Please turn up the audio on the player and on your machine. This is my first video with my computer, so I'm learning! Thanks so much for your understanding!

Other ingredients: Dylusions Mixed Media Journal (small size); Gesso; Embossing paste, Mod Podge, Mama Elephant stamps (bunny and umbrella), Copic and Pitt pens, stencils.

Other recommendations: If you prefer to work on flat pages, buy a Canson mixed media pad, remove the spiral binding or tear the page from the pad to work individually. You can rebind them later when you have several pages completed.

Old News is Good News

Yeah, so you've probably heard by now, but it bears repeating. The Greeting Farm is the newest member company of Splitcoast Stampers! Woohoo!!

They had a wonderful release party full of chatting, prize drawings, and all around fun over on their new forum. Yep - a whole new forum with challenges and contests and, oh yeah - their heART journaling forum, too!

Speaking of release... did you see their new, totally Ca-UTE sets? They are doing some of their sets in clear photopolymer acrylic. Now, I haven't bought any of these yet to try them out, but the reviews indicate that their polymer is superior to those cheaper, tear-prone, hard to ink polymers. I'm gonna try them really soon!

This is Furever - and it's adorrrrbz! You don't need to have pets to need this set. How fun would it be to keep in touch with these cuties? Or how about some tea??

YES it's Tea-rrific! Totally ready for an Alice-style tea party. I think these are gotta-haves!

Ok - so TGF is also having a special World Card Making Day/SCS challenge. The gist is to CASE (copy and share everything) a member of the design team. You have until Thursday night to play along (please see the link for details).

I decided to CASE Joni Wilson's card:

Isn't this DARLING? I adore the black and white, with just a hint of warm grey. I didn't have the exact paper or image, so I just played as closely to her elements as I could. This is what I made:

{click to enlarge}

I just love the Sweet and Toxic set. It's perfect for so many applications. I colored her up with my Copics, added just a hint of the subtle greyed-yellow from the SU! paper, and a little Tim Holtz embossing folder. I really like how this came together.

It's your turn, now! Go play the challenge, and upload your card. Check out the new forum, and the BRAND NEW design team. Jump on in, the water's fine!

Well Hello!

I seem to be following a pattern here. Three posts in a row with Greeting Farm stamps! I love them. The Greeting Farm suffered a major server melt-down and lost a lot of their gallery. I lost a few images, but others lost a lot more. Bless TGF's hearts, they've been working round the clock to get their gallery back up!

{click to enlarge}

I made this cutie for a TGF challenge awhile back. I just love these bunnies. It's a really old set, called Lucky Bunnies, and I made the card for Mystery Monday's when Amy's card was featured.

I created this flower using an EK Success border punch, a big button and some embroidery floss.

Really loving some new, inexpensive goodies to hold me over until we get some bills out of the way. I'm always up to something! Thanks for dropping by today, it really means a lot!

I can't believe this week is nearly over. Do you have fun plans for the weekend? I'm toying with a motorcycle trip, if the weather is favorable. I'm so glad that we have football going on now!

Ciao, baby!

Friends with Flair Friday!

Hello again! Wow, these Fridays seem to come faster and faster, don't they? I think they know it's getting closer to Christmas, and I've not started my shopping. It's a conspiracy!

{click to enlarge}

I bought my husband a Teeter table. Heard of those? I'm not one to dive into every TV thing. However, I've spent enough time in physical therapy to know when something works. DH was running over 50 miles a week in his training for marathons. There were times he'd be walking along just fine, then drop to one knee unable to stand. Enter the Teeter. After about three days using it, his lower back pain, and associated failings, disappeared. Now - this is just what we experienced - I make no claims!!

The sketch for this layout was from Stamp TV. Really a simple layout, but very flexible. I hope you've enjoyed your stop here. Don't forget to look for the Unity FFF badge to enter to win free stamps!

Friends with Flair Friday!

Welcome to another edition of Unity's Friends with Flair on Friday! There are 50 customers blogs, plus a few design team members, so you'll have a LOT of eye candy and inspiration!

If you just happened here, start at the beginning from Angela's blog.

{click to enlarge}

Our unofficial theme is to make a project about something edible. I love tea, and I adore tea pots! So this was just a perfect idea for a friend card! The colors in the pictures are a little skewed, this is rich razzleberry cardstock and cottage wall patterned paper from SU! The ribbon is Michael's, and I used my fancy tags die from Nestabilities. I used the current Card Positioning System sketch (#136) for the layout. And the stamps are from Unity's June Kit of the Month - Perfect in Every Way.

Remember - check everyone's blog posts out today (listed here) - one of them is hiding a surprise!

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Have a great hop!!

Cuddles Comfort with a Sneak Peek!

Welcome to all my wonderful readers. It means so much to me that you come to visit!

Today I have a Cuddles project to share with you. Cuddles images are a line of varied poses based on this adorable bear. You can purchase Cuddles (and more!) from Ildi Co. stamps.

Ildi is still running that great special of buy 10 for $20 - isn't that a great price?? Hurry - it's a limited offer!! Ildiko is also sponsoring this week's Etsy Inspired Challenge, so this project was created for that challenge! It's simple to participate. Just visit the inspiration store for the week (this week is Mrs. Kwitty's Cottage), pick out your inspiration piece (mine is this one), create your project, upload to a gallery or your blog, and link it here.

I picked the rabbit for my inspiration piece, because it is vintage inspired with button hinged arms. Those features really reminded me of vintage stuffed teddy bears, and the comfort they bring. Just made me all warm and fuzzy inside!

For this project, I used my nestabilities to create a frame on my Gina K cardstock base. I printed Cuddles on white, then colored him with my prismacolor pencils and OMS. On the top of this panel, I used my border punch as a mask, and colored it with Pebbles chalk. I created the background with Pebbles chalks, too. Then I applied SU! irridescent ice glitter over the entire panel (for a Gina K challenge).

Now for the commercial! Ildi Co. is hosting a blog hop on Saturday (Aug 29th), with all new images. Here's a sneaky peek for you! I think you will ADORE the new images - so be sure to stop by and check it out! It will be starting from Jenny's blog and you'll just hop from one blog to the next using the links provided in each post. FUN!!!

One part Water, One part Color

Welcome to Week Two of the August Edition of Creative Belli Challenge!

Lately, everyone seems to be jumping onto the Copics boat. Alcoholism is on the rise!

Smiley from millan.net

Seriously, with so much focus on Copic and similar markers, it's refreshing to step back and play with water and color. I used Stampin' Up markers to create this cute project. How? Here's a walk-through.

Start with good quality watercolor paper (cheap, you can get it at most craft supply stores, or through your SU! pusher - I mean dealer!). Stamp it with a non-water reactive ink. I used StazOn black, and embossed it with clear embossing powder because I like the shine.

Spritz your paper with water until water puddles. Then quickly touch your markers to the pooled water in the area you want colored. The paper will do the rest, acting like a sponge to suck the color into its pores. Repeat until you are satisfied. You can let it dry and repeat if the color is too pastel for your liking.

So - now you know one more way to use those basic water-based markers. For a fun variation - try this same technique with your water-based reinkers. Ranger Ink distressing inks are water reactive, so play with those too! Have FUN!

Cuddles Has Fun

Cuddles is such a versatile critter. Here, she's all dressed up for the parade! Or a girl's birthday party, or even just high tea! Ildiko, the owner/artist, is still having her 10 images for $20 special. Why don't you go grab Cuddles to keep you company?

What - you haven't made the switch to digital? Think it's too scary to live in a technical world? Let me tell you a few things I've learned. Because, yeah, I resisted in the beginning too.

1. Digital images are available to you immediately. No worries about your postman thinking you're creepy by stalking him.

2. Earth friendly - no rubber, no waste, no wood, just good old electrons.

3. Space savers - no need to get hubs to build you 'just one more' shelf. They live on your computer. They can be burned to CD/DVDs or stored on an external memory.

4. Perfect images and total control. You want to make a really cool one of a kind backpack clip for your kid? Just stretch that image to three times larger than you want. Print it on shrink plastic (yes, they make shrink plastic for your printer), color it up and melt it down. Perfect!

Digital images are so smart and affordable. Give them a try! There are several places you can visit on the internet to walk you through, if you're a little uncertain. So, what are you waiting for??

Delightful Sunshine!

It's another fabulous release day at Sunshine's Stamps! I am loving this image. It has so many potential uses, and it can be dressed up or down. It's called Hot To Trot, and was designed by Sunshine herself!! Hitting it outta the ballpark!

I used Melanie Muenchinger's Inspiration Mosaic {Gina K Designs} to create this piece, along with the sentiment from that set. Don't you feel like those feet must belong to your favorite movie diva??

I did a ton of sewing on this, but it wasn't hard. It hides a multitude of my little piecing mistakes. A little ink here, a dab of stickles there, a prima flower and one from Making Memories, some Offray ribbon and there you have it. Oh - I punched the fold with SU!s spiral punch.

Check out the rest of Sunshine's girls projects! Inspire yourself then come back and link me up to what you make! Have a GREAT weekend!

Ta for now, ~ky

P.S. I used the Stamp TV color combination challenge for this project, and the Digital Tuesday Challenge to use bling and a digital image.

Ice Cream and Magic Matter!

I've had this product forever. I was just using it the other day and I thought, I wonder if they still make this. Then I thought... I wonder if anyone else knows about this. So I took a poll of a few of my friends, and just what I thought - this product needs to be reintroduced.

(RE) Introducing

MAGIC MATTER

A Perfect Mat Every Time

Mine has 4 discs because it's old. You can still buy this product, but it only comes in a 3 disc set now. Search your favorite on-line store, or visit Puzzlemates, the creator.

It's really simple to use. Just pick the size disc you need for how wide you want your mat. Now, I'm demonstrating this on a simple oval, but it works on ANY shape. No need to own every size punch on the market. Just buy the average size you would use most and your magic matter gives you three matting options.

Adhere your item to your choice of mat paper. Pick your disk, put your pen or pencil in the hole, butt the metal disc against the item you're matting, and guide your pencil around the border. The matting disc will hug your item giving you a perfect margin.

Carefully cut along the line you've drawn. Remember, when cutting out any image, move the paper, not the scissors.

Now you have perfect, custom matting for your project. All that's left is to assemble your project as desired.

This is a card I made using Sunshine's Stamps' latest release, Mr. Smoothie. I colored him up with my copics, added some ric-rac, Prima flowers, Basic Grey button, MM acrylic flower, Michael's rhinestones, SU! PP, Bazzill CS, and my Magic Matter with the Unity sentiment.

I hope you'll explore opportunities with the magic matter, and figure out more ways to use them. You can use pens, and just draw a border, too. They are quite versatile.

Have a great day!!

Wooden You Know It??

Sorry - corny for a Wednesday! I have waited so long to share this project with you. Today is the next installment of the Creative Belli Challenge, and I'm the Guest Designer for August! Woohoo!!

[click the pic for an enlarged view]

This challenge is to USE WOOD. It can be wood-looking paper (like I used here), actual wooden components, or even a 3D project made of wood. You can make a card, or a scrapbook page - the sky's the limit! Put on your creativity hat and see what you can come up with. Link it up to the Creative Belli Challenge blog, and I'll come see what you've created!

For my project, I used the SCS tutorial for a pizza box (think personal pan sized Smiley from millan.net), Daisy D's Patterned Paper, Bazzill Cardstock, Stampin' Up images, Prismacolor pencils, and some Stampin' Up designer ribbon. The sweet box will be filled with small notecards (seen in the background) and sent to a friend of mine who's going to need to send out a bunch of thank-yous.

If you need a little creativity boost, check out what the other talented Designers came up with on the Creative Belli Challenge blog. Don't forget - if you upload your project to an online gallery, like SCS, you need to use the keyword CBC71.

For the uninitiated, the Belli Challenge changes once every two weeks. This gives you plenty of time to play! So, I'll be back with another project in two weeks (same Smiley from millan.nettime, same Smiley from millan.netchannel )! I am so honored to get to be a part of this creative group. Thanks for taking the time to pop in!

Ta for now, ~ky

Welcome to the Bunny Nest! I host rescued animals in a small in-home setting. Currently, I host 3 bunnies and 2 kitties. These animals will be socialized and housed for the entirety of their lives in my home. They inspire my crafts, and I use any proceeds to pay for their needs. Thanks for visiting!
