Mi nombre es Susan Morrow.

En Reino Unido.

¿País de residencia?
En un lugar en el norte de Inglaterra llamado Northumberland - donde está el Hadrians Wall y hay un montón de castillos e historia.

¿Cuánto hace que empezaste con esta afición?
Probablemente, en serio, hace aproximadamente un año. El impulso para ir realmente a por ello fué un festival local. Decidí convertirlo en una meta para obtener una colección para la feria y me puse a trabajar duro para conseguirlo. Desde entonces he estado trabajando en aumentar mis habilidades y experimentar con colores y formas.

Cuéntanos como empezaste.
Mi pareja trabaja con madera y había hecho alguna escultura en el pasado y él me sugirió que tratara de hacer joyas, ya que era en, cierta medida, similar a la escultura. Lo hice y me encantó.

Dinos 3 artistas que te inspiren.
Es increíblemente difícil nombrar sólo tres. Quiero nombrar a tres de diferentes disciplinas, pero intentaré mantener mi respuesta corta.

Si os referís a artistas profesionales conocidos de cualquier período, entonces probablemente: Rodin, Picasso y Hogarth.
Si os referís a artesanos modernos entonces de nuevo es difícil reducirlo a un número pequeño así que me centraré en la joyería hecha por artesanos. ¿Cuántas horas dedicas a la semana a esta afición?
¡No las suficientes! Trato de hacerlo mucho los fines de semana y por las noches.

¿Te dedicas profesionalmente a esto?
En este momento a más bien un hobby en el que estoy trabajando para que llegue a ser mas bien un trabajo.

¿Qué otras aficiones tienes?
Muchas, pero sobre todo a nivel académico. Yo era científica originalmente (graduada en Química) y no he perdido mi amor por la ciencia así que me gusta aprender - puedo decir que aprender cosas nuevas es una de mis aficiones preferidas. También me encanta la jardinería y cultivar un montón de verduras y frutas.

¿Quieres contarnos algo mas de tu vida?
Trabajo a tiempo completo en la industria del software y lo he hecho durante 15 años. Antes de ello era profesora de ciencias y antes de eso era química en la industria. Vivo con mi pareja y mi perro (Ella) y ambas hemos tenido hijas. También tengo 2 pequeños nietos (Bill y Anna), que son la luz de mi vida (junto con Ella, por supuesto).

Would you like to tell us your name?
My name is Susan Morrow.

How old are you?
46

What country are you born?
The UK

Where do you live now?
In a place in the north of England called Northumberland - its where Hadrians Wall is and there are a lot of castles and history.

When did you start with this hobby?
Probably, seriously, about a year ago. The impetus to really go for it was a local festival. I decided to make it a goal to get a collection together for that and it made me really work hard to do so. Since then I’ve just carried on building on my skills and experimenting with colour and form.

How did you start?
My partner works with wood and I have done some sculpture in the past and he suggested I tried out jewellery making as it was sort of similar (in some ways) to sculpture. I did and I loved it.

Who are three artists who inspire you the most?
It is incredibly difficult to just name three. I almost want to name three from different disciplines, but I’ll try and keep my answer short.
If you mean well know professional artist from any time period, then probably; Rodin, Picasso and Hogarth.
If you mean modern handmade artists then again its difficult to keep it to a small number so I’ll focus on handmade jewellery artists. How many hours a week do you dedicate to this hobby?
Not enough! I try and do a lot at weekends and in the evening.

Is this more than your hobby? Is it your job?
At this point in time its more of a hobby that I’m working on to become more of a job.

What other hobbies do you have?
Many, but mainly academic. I was a scientist originally (my first degree is in Chemistry) and I haven’t lost my love of science so I like to learn – I can say that learning new things is one of my most loved hobbies. I also love to garden and grow lots of vegetables and fruit.

Would you like to tell us a little bit more about you?
I work full time in the software industry and have done for about 15 years. Before that I taught science and before that I was a chemist in industry. I live with my partner and dog (Ella) and we both have grown up daughters. I also have 2 baby grandchildren (Bill and Anna) who are the light of my life (along with Ella of course).
