My sister, Ginger, did this meme a couple weeks ago, and wanted me to have a go. So, here I go! (By the way, check out her version as well, because I'm from all those things, too! :D )
I'm from red dirt roads, playing "school" in the woods and markers on posterboard.
I'm from He-Man and She-Ra dolls and saving the world with Wayne on the front porch steps.
I'm from cats in the yard, sweet old dogs, and walking till dark to find scuplins (that's "scuppernongs" to most folks).
I'm from the afternoon smell of supper cooking, homework after school, and summers full of "The Karate Kid."
I'm from a boombox in a swing, a homemade basketball goal, and a lavender 10-speed bike.
I'm from a little painted cinder block church, solos on Sundays, and tinsel halos on Christmas angels.
I'm from a little Casio keyboard, a black, clunky upright, and Mrs. Fowler's baby grand.
I'm from nickel candy at the Suwannee Swifty, makeup from Revco, and buying only Cokes from the liquor store.
I'm from Maw and Major's country life, Edith's spunkiness, and a Mildred who was really a grandmother.
I'm from a Mama who is my compass, a Daddy who is my hero, and the reflection of my potential in their eyes.
This is me. And this is where I'm from.

Embrace The Current Season
Gabrielle Blair said, "Embrace the current season of your life." OK, Gabrielle, here goes! It's almost officially Summer on the calendar, and I am pleased to say that so far, Summer has been on her best behavior. Mild temps, mostly in the 80s, and those have been welcome! But the local weather man says Summer is about to bust out some mid-to-upper 90s foolishness later this week.
You know what, Summer? That's ok. Bring your hotness. I will embrace it. I can't say that I won't oftentimes be embracing it inside in the air conditioning, but I will embrace it all the same.
I will live life, savor it, cherish it, and not wish away the precious days that Summer brings. Even if they are hot and uncomfortable, those days are still important.
So, here's a little photography of life lately. On the cusp of Summer.

Just a few shots I took with this:

It's an old Minolta film lens that Brian found in our local Goodwill for $7.07!! A 50 mm f/1.7 prime. I have been wanting it, and was going to eventually order it. For $150! But instead, I got it for seven bucks!! This one is in mint condition, with clean glass and just a small bit of cosmetic wear. We just could not believe our luck. I shoot Sony. No, I'm not a Nikon or Canon girl. I'm a Sony girl. I have a Sony dSLR, and since Sony bought Minolta back in 2006, I can use all the old Minolta film lenses on my Sony dSLR. I think this is super-duper cool, because there's just a different quality to film lenses that is really amazing. The coating on these lenses was optimized for film, which just gives it a different look and feel. But they're still usable on a digital camera, so it's like the best of both worlds! Amazing, vibrant color reproduction and sharpness. I have a Sony 50 mm f/1.8 that performs beautifully, so I am ecstatic to have two amazing "nifty fifties" in my arsenal. I also have an old Minolta 24 mm prime, which is excellent as well. Oh, and I'm not a zoom lens girl, either. I shoot only primes. I love the lightweight, small size of primes and the wider aperture capabilities. They are sharp and excellent in low light.
I am looking forward to embracing the rest of this season.

Collected Moments
Here's a post of collected moments. Life lately, according to my camera.

So much beauty in the everyday. The "ordinary" moments are extraordinary when those moments make up a life. All those little details, scenes that might go unnoticed, unless we slow down just a bit and capture them. I love collecting moments.

Destination: Peace.
2011.
Wow, what a year.
A year full of lots of things.
Loss.
Of life.
Of focus.
Of health.
Of quiet.
Of joy.
Of comfort.
I took a break from scrapbooking. It was good for me. But I miss it and am ready to get back.
There were some gains as well.
I spent the majority of the year with a camera growing out of my face. I loved it.

I strengthened old friendships and gained new ones. I am grateful for that.
I grew closer to my husband and with each year, seem to somehow love him more, although it seems impossible because I already love him with all my being.
Together, we realized some things about how and where we want to live that will help us move forward into the new year, and set the tone for the next phase of our life together.
My heart grew to make room for more kittybabies, precious lives that the world would otherwise just discard, and I love them like they are my children. They have helped give me focus and purpose.
I had a lot of unhappy times, uncomfortable times, times I felt violated by things I couldn't control. I lost quiet, peace and at times, sanity. But in the moments of distress, of anger, of discord, I still felt little Divine whispers. Little reassurances that this is just part of the journey. That I should focus on the good, and I should go where the peace is.
In 2012, I want to go where the peace is. I want to feel it within myself, and project it back to the world. This is not a New Year's resolution. It's more of an approach to life. I fully believe that when you put positive goodness out there, it comes back to you. I am inviting it with open arms and an open heart. I know this will not always be easy, and sometimes it may not even be possible, but it's not going to stop me from trying.

I am ready to start fresh and leave so many things, so much negativity behind me.
So, come on, 2012. A whole new year. A fresh start. New footsteps on a new path to where the peace is.

December Daily Wrap-Up
Wow, this month has absolutely flown by! It hardly seemed time for Christmas and then, Christmas was over! December Daily did help me to slow down just a bit and capture some moments that may have otherwise been overlooked or underappreciated during this busy, fast month. Here are the last of my dailies!
December 8. Our latest rescue, Simon.

December 9. Hipstamatic pic of a chalkboard message.

December 10. Brian holding Beatrice.

December 11. Stockings by the fire.

December 12. Restaurant Wanted sign. Just thought it was funny.

December 13. Oliver, too sleepy to open his eyes, but still turning his head toward the camera. :D

December 14. Brian and I made and decorated Christmas sugar cookies! Yum!

December 15. Fuzzy Wuzzy by garland light. Sweet boy.

December 16. Tree light bokeh.

December 17. My sweet husband blowing out his 37th birthday candles.

December 18. Santa sure left a big bag of gifts on the couch for me to wrap!

December 19. Jingle bell wreath on the back door. So cheery!

December 20. Spent most of the day wrapping presents, along with my "helper" who was hoping for some moments alone with the gift wrap supplies. Her Christmas wish did not come true, sadly. :D

December 21. Rainy day. Oliver by the back door.

December 22. Some of the cutest wrapping paper I have ever seen. Got it at Target this year.

December 23. All is calm, all is bright. Wrapped and ready.

I decided to stop my dailies with Christmas Day, so in my next post I will share those, along with Christmas Eve and Day pictures with my family.

December Daily
Happy December!
I am participating in a project called December Daily. It began as a scrapbooking thing, where you take a picture each day in December, of something meaningful to you that tells a small (or big) story for that day in your life. (It's kind of like Photo/Project 365, but concentrates on the month of December only.) I will likely end up creating a mini album to hold all these photos/stories, but am planning on sharing them here as well. Finding a moment each day during such a busy month can really help slow down the hustle-bustle and bring more joy and thankfulness to the season.
OK, now to get caught up with my blog posts! I've been taking a December Daily picture everyday, but am just going to blog them in batches to make it easier.
December 1.
My warm toes in these awesome fleece booties that Mama and Daddy gave me at the start of the cold weather this year. They have seriously barely left my feet! I love them and you can't feel a single snippety miniscule draft of cold air!

December 2.
A rare and spontaneous early supper at Carrabba's. We always get the filet marsala, garlic mashed potatoes, and sauteed broccoli. Shutcho mouth. Soooooo good. If I ever have to pick a final meal, this right here is high on my list. And it was so nice for us to get out for a dinner together, so we really enjoyed it.

December 3.
I was craving some peppermint (I tend to only want it around Christmas) so we got a big container of mini candy canes from Sam's. They're so cute and pretty with twinkly Christmas lights in the background, as in my picture here.

December 4.
On Sunday, December 4th, Brian and I went to do a photoshoot of our friend, Lera's daughters and we had so much fun! We did the photos at Auchumpkee Creek Covered Bridge in Thomaston, GA. It was beautiful!

December 5.
A Hipstamatic pic of a little Christmas house I made. It looks so cheery on our mantel, surrounded by pine garland and red berries.

December 6.
Got out the stack of Christmas CDs to make some playlists.

This season goes so quickly. I think this year might be going the fastest pace yet. December Daily is really helping me to slow down and notice little moments of celebration in each day. Sometimes the little things do mean the most. More December Daily in a few days!
