One Stroke Painting-pot

One Stroke painting technique paired with Acrylics can work magic even on the most dull and boring items around the house. Its amazing to see a dull clay pot turn into a work of art before your eyes within a few hours.
MATERIALS REQUIRED
1 Clay/terracotta Pot
2 Acrylic paints, brushes, rags for wiping the brushes.
3 Design, carbon sheet.
PROCEDURE
1 Spread newspaper over the work area.
2 Wipe the pot , if possible rinse it and dry overnight.
3 Sandpaper the pot to even out rough surfaces.
4 Use Acrylic paint to paint the background.Double coat , dry between coats.
5 Select a design keeping in mind the shape of the pot while the pot dries.
6 Use a carbon paper to trace the design.
7 Select color scheme for flowers/fruits , leaves.
8 Start with the leaves as they are dark and define the flowers.
9 Paint the flowers or design.
10 Complete the painting and double coat wherever necessary.
This project can be completed in a few hours as Acrylics dry pretty fast.
Varnish the completed pot, it will take at least 24hrs for the varnish to dry.
TIPS- Check out One Stroke Painting videos for learning the strokes and technique.

Pot Decoration

A small pot can be made into a piece of art by painting it. I intend to use this as a paintbrush holder.
Painting daisies, gerberas is quite easy.
MATERIALS REQUIRED
Pot, acyrlic colors , varnish.
1 Wash the pot dry it and paint it black.
2 Make the stems or mark the spots for the flowers.
3 Think of a clock and paint in the petals. Use a round brush to stroke the petals inwards.
4 Once all the daisies are completed use a little blue color to shade the petals.
5 Paint the centers with yellow.
6 Make stems, leaves, add buds if required .
7 Varnish the pot after its dry.

Ceramic Pot decoration

This is a simple pattern of strawberries encircling an earthen pot.
I agree with most people that working with ceramic powder is easy as there is no cooking involved like Air Dry Clays. Its also easily available off the shelf in craft shops.
One needs to know the recipe to make the paste(which I have given in my blog) , acrylic colors, varnish and paint brushes and a design.
Its best to keep yourself free for a few hours , depending on the design while you work. Its better to finish off the ceramic paste in one go to avoid any disappointment as it may dry later unless stored properly!

Ceramic Pot decoration

This year I have decided to make use of the flowers which I make and decorate things. Roses, cala lily and leaves have been made with ceramic recipe given in the blog .
The ceramic dough flowers were made , dried, colored and stuck to the painted pot.It took several days for the roses to dry as the weather was cloudy and cold. Coloring was easy as acrylic paints dry fast. Assembling the flowers with fevicol took only a few minutes !
The pot with strawberries was done differently. The strawberries, leaves and flowers were made and stuck to the surface as soon as they were made. After drying for a few days they were colored with acrylic colors and shaded as required .
Its better to copy the design on the pot and then start the ceramic work to avoid errors.

Mirrorwork on Pot

Mirrors can be used to decorate pots. Select a design and decide the color combination.
METHOD
1 Soak the terracota pot in water for a few hours  to dissolve any mud or dust sticking to it.
2 Let it dry .
3 Color the pot with acrylic color of your choice.
4 Draw the design on the pot with a pencil to mark placement.
5 Use fevicol or white glue to stick the mirrors.
6 Colored thread can be used to give it an ethnic look.
7 3-D colors can be used to fill in the gaps if required.
