    june...

group party at prof hor's place

    surf and sweat 2011 =)

    nike 5km run =)

    new laptop and skin =)

    new nikon d5100

okay im finally updating after such a long hietus. its been a very tiring semester i can say and i am glad i've survived it with madness commitment for TA, heavy modules (and there's only 2!), handling of my honours student etc etc. finally just started my experiments, though tiring but at least finally im doing lab work after like 1 year? a lot of work to catch up before oral QE next year and still have to prepare for my QE paper exam for mid june. tired, but yet more emotionally stable with less stress faced. happy to say that my colleague sheauwei has given birth just last sat to issac, after her many tries. =) though im currently taking over her admin lab duties and its yet another mess and have to keep answering to boss, but still its something that im happy to help out with despite the excess work load.

just some rapid updates before im going to concuss again. bought my new laptop a lenovo g470 during the IT fair and just gave it a nice skin =) also bought a new toy nikon d5100. its not exactly bought out of interest, but more of an impulsive buy from my dad which i paid him back in full after both of us got sick of my mum and bro "wasting" the weekends to take snapshots everywhere. (and we bought it lower than the market price =)) with 2 canon dslr in the family, here comes nikon! plus the new 300mm lens which we just bought, its even lighter than the canons with 200mm lens =) sadly speaking i do not have the time to play with it much given that im extremely tired out from school, and do not have the time to attend photography lessons. but eventually i'll put it to good use =) its first maiden outing shall be my taiwan family trip next week! despite we're going to the places that i've been to last year and staying back at the same hotel, its been so long since we travelled as a whole family and the last one was when i just returned from my exchange almost 2 years ago. sad but true. probably the last trip before my bro finds a job and start work and then it'll be harder to go on family trips.

and highly possible to go to tioman in june with some of the lab people, and a cable ski trip to batam with val =) time to clear some leave during my 3 months break! going to be TA-ing cm3292 again for special sem 2, but at least this time im finally clearing finish my hours with a pay for the excess hours to subsidise my trips =)

for runs, feb i ran surf and sweat, similar to last year but this time with better timings with a longer surfing distance but shorter run route =) also completed the nus biathlon in march. was to say its actually quite tiring but yet feel a sense of accomplishment when i completed 800m of swim and 5km of run. =) the swim was already tiring by itself with 16 laps, though my usual swims are usually 50 laps, but you can feel the legs weakened after that and then we have to run 5km of NUS slopes. omg. its not my first time running the slopes, but with the swim it was daunting. plus i felt like vomitting during the first part of the run due to too much water being consumed so i asked val to go ahead w/o me. thankfully, the feeling went off after the yih slope and the cdtl slope so i did managed to do almost non-stop (other than the central lib slope back to src) and gotten an okay timing for a 1st timer i guess. was just happy to not be the last of the pack =) finally last sat we did the nike 5km goddess run at marina barrage. this time we did it as a buddy team =) had good atmosphere except for the mad weather and the huge pack which leads to many bottlenecks and we have to snake in and out to run ahead, but at least the run was done at the park opposite the barrage which is still unopened to the public =) what's more important is that i ran with my buddy =) that should be all the runs for now, still looking at the race calendar for the rest of the year and probably looking at the safra bay run =)

and had a group party at prof hor's place 2 weeks ago to bid farewell to our 2 research fellows who left and also to the honours students. a nice and cosy dinner i'll say, and i'll probably miss the honours student who brought me entertainment and fun and laughter to the whole lab =) only the grad students are left with 1 RA with sheauwei going on maternity leave, its going to be quite months till the next batch of honors come in, and i do wish the honors student best of luck =)

and GE is finally over. was keeping up everyday with the news. am glad to say im actually having a walkover in my grc as i wouldnt want to be voting for some independent group that is put together in the last minute. if its other parties i would have welcomed them to run for alternative voices and plans. sad to hear about george but well lets hope for the best for the next 5 years =)

that should be all for now. not looking forward to start my jap lesson in end may to prepare for my dec trip to japan. and boss assigned me to be a mentor of a japanese student attached to IMRE and our lab. probably good training for me before i head over for my attachment, but jap lessons are going to be a heavy workload =( nevertheless lets hope i'll have fun learning jap and the 3 months there will be much better with less language barrier. =) till now then! =)
