    march III...

    missed the snow there...

hmm nothing much happening these days. passed the most stressful phase of handing up so much work and take home exam. now still left a group paper and an exam seminar on monday to handle. thats not too bad i guess =)

visited 2 museums yesterday in copenhagen for my ancient egypt mod. its so cool but tiring! my prof actually brought us there n explain like almost every exhibit in detail and its really quite interesting to relate to what i am learning. though its archaeology and its totally not related to chemistry, after some time it gets more interesting except for writing the papers and stuff. i've seen really real mummies with and without the wrappings and excerpts from the book of the death. remembered how singapore used to have egypt exhibition in asian civilisation years and years ago when i was in primary school and i got totally freaked out by the dimness of the light and the different god statues. (i think its anubis or some wolf-headed statue) and i cant remember what was on display. now i fully appreciate the egypt exhibits and its pretty cool! =) will kind of miss it after the module ends next week with my econs hist when hell starts with organometallic 4 hours a day every day in kemicentrum from 8am to 12pm =(

was sick for the past week. still on and off sick with waking up with super dry throat which is super painful. on and off flu and cough. fever for 1 night. it kinds of feels quite lonely and sad when there is no one to take care of you when you are sick. and seeing doctors here is almost impossible. appointment must be made on the same day at 8am and you must pay 200SGD to see a doc! thats so horrible! went to pharmacy to get cough tables for 13SGD = its not good to fall sick overseas. but its a good chance for me to stop drinking for a while.

nearly got drunk yesterday again. my corridor mate marie took out her superb 1.5L smirfoff vodka and we started having coke + vodka. drank for 6hours+ and i had 5 drinks (last one forced on by marie). super high. super giddy. and i drank the same amount as my US corridor mate and we watched some global glove award for a while. was in a great clubbing mood but luckily i didn't. managed to wash up and get changed before sleeping but got woke up by my other corridor mate who come back at 5am cooking in the kitchen and talking quite loudly. = spinning head but went out to show my presence to her and caught more sleep. and tried abstinte today as well. i am becoming such an alcoholic but its the only activity that we do during our free time sadly. no shopping on weekends the shops closed at 3PM. nothing on TV. and today was mich's 21st so i guess its hard to avoid drinking. should cut down almost totally when i go back but at least i can train up my alcohol tolerance level. at least no more clubbing for now.

will be heading to stockholm russia estonia and finland in april. germany in may! june will be poland london switz for now. cant hang out too late here because everyone had looked for their fyp profs while i am here. and geez is going back earlier and travelling in 3 is such an odd number. i need to go back to find a prof! leong wk went over to ntu so sad. he's sacastic but he's still quite a good prof that gave me my 1st A haha. wonder why nus chem profs keep moving to ntu. tianhu was such a nice prof too. hopefully i can find a nice prof to work under maybe for org/inorg chem.

meanwhile back to my work again =( hope to be back home soon! and thanks san for the nice letter which warmed me up immediately! =)

    march II...

    aurora! (photo credits to young)

went for gh's birthday celebrations last night! tracy made macoroni + baked chicken while i cooked my potato dish and my fried vege with tanghoon which tasted quite okie i guess haha. i realised i only cook for potlucks and stuff but i hardly cook for myself nowadays since the corridor kitchen is always in a mess and totally tired to cook inside there other than my maggie mee which i have to wash the pot for another corridor mate before i use it so you get the picture. had some fun yesterday night! guess what! we made our own mahjong tiles out of IKEA brown paper and we drew all 148 tiles! and it was quite funny because it was so hard to hold the tiles and somehow it became like a memory game haha. was quite fun and entertaining but sadly we have to rush off to catch the bus =( just some pictures from last night. credits to tracy =)

the amt of food that we have!

    mahjong 'tiles'!

went for clubbing first time on wednesday and all i can say is i am lousy at it. even till saturday i am still recovering from my muscle aches and they are going tonight again! didn't want to go on wed but it was claire's birthday and so i agreed to go since she took great care of me during the kiruna trip. clubbing is just so not for me. feels so shiok in the beginning to dance hard but later it becomes tiring after 2 hours even with beer along the way. the most guilty thing i did was to unknowingly took a bit of nicotine. yes nicotine. not really pills but its called snooze i think which you hide it under your lips in front of your gums for 5 minutes. suppose to get you high but it has totally no effect on me. (nicotine tolerant i guess luckily) yet i feel so guilty for doing that. guess no more clubbing for me other than going to pubs but definitely not nations party.

and at the same time i am feeling quite sick and tired of drinking here. it seems like a must to drink here to socialise but the singaporeans here or rather the smu pple really drinks a lot. every dinner we meet up for there will definitely be some drinks around. its here i learn how to really take whiskey vodka and hard liquors (i think its called purge). i promise to stop drinking after going back to singapore. maybe just with friends and working to test a bit of wine but not beers and liquors every few days like here. one thing lucky for me is that i am quite alcohol tolerant and hence i have never gotten drunk before. the only time i nearly got drunk was after half a bottle of wine, 1 glass of whiskey, 1 glass of purge and yes i think there's 1 to 2 shot of vodka too which is called the mixing of drinks. i managed to make it back to my room (luckily its next corridor), bathe and sleep. totally disgusted with drinking.

think after this post everyone will change their perception of me man. clubbing and drinking and nicotine from me! only 1 thing i don't do its that i don't smoke though yes some of them smoke. should perhaps hang out less with the smu people but sadly if i don't do that i will have no one to go out with and stuff. my clique meets up so not often like perhaps once every 2 weeks. we were joking that i drink only pepsi with my more comfortable clique while i drink alcohol with the rest of the bunch of singaporeans (which is so true). at least my corridor mates only ask me to go for beer which is still okie and they don't really club and do hard psychoing to get you to join them. i need to expand out of my circle somehow but its kind of too late though. i need to control myself for the rest of the 3 months before heading back and banning myself from such stuff. i shall just be the nice and nerdy me instead of forcing myself to become part of them who parties and drinks a lot.

and my second part of my timetable is totally screwed up! the organometallic timetable is totally crap! everyday lesson. its either 4 hours lecture from 8 to 12 or lab from 8 to 5pm (i think total more than 10 times). totally stunned. hope i can survive with those masters / phd student since its a master level course. trying to plan trips for my easter break and my end of may trip before my exams and after that i am going travelling with tracy they all! woohoo! meanwhile back to my sad life for now to try and finish yet another egypt paper and my econs paper. needs to really stay more positive. take care people!

(p.s. and i shall try and update my blog layout when i get off my work since i realised its been ages since i used this layout) and a short video clip from the snow mobile and ice hockey (the winning penalty):

    march...

okie i am finally back after so long. been so tired nowadays given that i finally started my 5 day work week and its only 2 to 3 hours a day but because of that i have to get bus concession that cost 370SEK = ard 70SGD. should have gotten a bike if i don't get freak out that much on the road which i still do due to the unfamilarity with the left hand drive.

lots of past events going on. 1st was xiuhui's mini birthday celebration at tracy's and gh's place. potluck dinner! made bak ku teh soup which turned out not too bad i guess haha. just that i have to cook with 3 pots since tracy they all don't have a big pot! o_O. got other food too! xiu made fried rice, geez made thai mutton curry (with a lot of things inside like beansprout longbeans etc) and tracy n gh made shephard's pie and the banana cake! we had banana split and pepsi float for desert! complete meal =)

then went to watch a live ice hockey match! its super duper cool and i cant even sometimes see where's the puck was going. totally exciting! though we do not know the rules very well but its good to be soaked in the atmosphere of the home crowd of the malmo team despite some of them are really scary. super exciting! superb live match. oh yeah the name five for fighting actually comes from ice hockey when you get send out 5 minutes for fighting (but i only seen 2 mins time out throughout). violent game. often crashings into the walls by the players to fight for the puck. totally cool.

and i just came back from kiruna (in northern sweden) seeing the northern lights! the weather went down to -20 degrees and its damn freaking cold. cum its snowing! it really look like those snowy postcard pictures you see. i sank into snow and it was ankle deep! and i slip and fell as well =( we managed to see the northern lights with bands and moving! but the color we saw was white and not the expected band of colors. possibly due to the reason that this year is not the season to see it. heard the next best time is 5 years later! despite that its worth our driving up from kiruna for an hour and my 23 hours train ride per way! did horse riding and rose snow mobile for the first time too! visited the well known ice hotel which is really nice and the superb ice bar which serves drinks in ice cubes.

after spending 4 days with people travelling, pretty hard to get back to my lonely life in my single room. needs to stay more positive. work's piling up and i don't know when's my next trip since my timetable is unconfirmed and everyone seemed to be going everywhere. i shall see what i can do after i attend my first chem lesson. need to start ponning lesson! meanwhile take care guys! =)
