Year 10 Curriculum
The Year 10 Curriculum reflects the beginning of the Senior School Program. It consists of compulsory core units and a range of elective choices, all leading to VCE Units or other specialisations. The core units, within the Australian Curriculum are designed to provide students with a solid foundation for future studies. The central premise of the Australian Curriculum underpins the Year 10 program; every student is entitled to the opportunity of acquiring skills in each of the core domains. Both the core and elective units are modelled on a VCE structure and provide opportunities for enhancement, enrichment, enjoyment and of course, essential development of skills.
The compulsory studies are;
- English (2 semesters)
- Mathematics 2 semesters (with built in choice for personalisation)
- Science 2 semesters (with built in choice for personalisation)
- Humanities 2 semesters (Compulsory History and a choice for the alternate semester of study)
The elective program allows students to explore areas of interest; they are not prerequisites for VCE studies, but a student鈥檚 level of enjoyment and success in the subject may help inform their future subject choices.
Students will select four elective units. Each elective runs for a semester.
Students can also continue the study of a language in Year 10; this is an elective choice. The study of a language will take the place of two electives.

Physical Education
Through participation in various activities, students develop physical and social skills. They also get the chance to demonstrate leadership, teach their peers, and umpire games. They take fitness tests to track their own fitness levels. Activities they can choose from include soccer, touch football, hockey, Australian Rules football, and many more.
VCE Studies in Year 10
There is also an option for students to select a VCE unit whilst in Year 10. Students considering studying a VCE unit must have achieved strong academic grades in Year 9, particularly in key learning areas relevant to the VCE unit under consideration. The expectation is that the student will have at least a B+ average across the core subjects.
Students wishing to study a VCE subject must complete a separate application form and send to Mrs Milkins-Hendry (Director of Learning). Approval to study a VCE unit will take into account academic grades, discussions with teachers and a student鈥檚 purpose for pursuing study at this level. Each request to study a VCE unit will be considered on its merits.
VCE studies will take the place of two electives. The VCE handbook is available in the Documents section of SEQTA Learn or Engage. Not all VCE studies are open to Year 10 students.
Students are encouraged to read this document carefully and discuss their choices with parents and teachers during the selection process. Ms Anthea Bennett (Careers Advisor) is available to all Year 9 students to ensure that all pathways for maximum success have been explored and explained. Ms Bennett will also be conducting information sessions on the VET (Vocational Education and Training) programs available.

Preparing for Future Studies and Work
The Senior School prepares all students to earn their Victorian Certificate of Education.
This is the next step for further study at University or TAFE, or to start working.
The College offers a wide range of VCE and VET subjects based on student choices. This lets students choose a VCE course that suits their plans for further study and work.
VCE subjects can be combined with VET subjects to meet the requirements of the Victorian Certificate of Education.
VET Building and Construction Qualifications
Year 10-11 students can choose the VET Building and Construction pre-apprenticeship program. This program lets students gain experience in several building trades.
Topics covered include bricklaying, carpentry, painting and decorating, wall and ceiling lining, wall and floor tiling, solid plastering, and stonemasonry.
Students can include a school-based apprenticeship or a Level II Certificate in Building & Construction (Carpentry) in their studies.
This program allows Senior School students to shape their program in Years 10 to 12 to fit their goals and abilities.
