Week in Life–some more pages

wil-weds-1

Really enjoyed the 2 long thin spaces on the 1st page – one horizontal and one vertical.  I looked at things differently to find good shots for these spaces – on Wednesday part of the inside of the fridge door and the supermarket trolley handle.  I intend to use these type of shots some more in Project Life in the coming months.

Liking the mix of detail shots and wide scene shots.  On Thursday I have the dining table and a close up from above of my dinner plate.  And the river scene plus a detail of swans.  Again something I need to remember to continue in Project Life

I decided on Monday that I was not going to write about the events of each day but to use the text space for details of something like the artists on my nano playlist or what I ate during the day.  Some relate to the day and some to life now.

Overall the template I chose has worked well and I particularly like the mix of photo shapes.  Assigning some spaces for the same thing each day made the planning easier – I had 2 meals and a closeup of me on each page.  Most days I only took as many photos as I needed for the template and kept a note of which spaces I had filled throughout the day.  Creating each page the next morning worked for me.

I’m going to print each page A4 and put them in page protectors inside my Project Life album instead of a spread for this week.  I think I’ll do it again next year in another part of the year – late summer or autumn I think would be good.

I’m pleased with how the template is working and enjoying thinking about images to fit into the different shapes.  Decided to add prices where I can because they seem to change more than other details !

Originally i had thought that the bottom space on both pages would be for journaling about the day but halfway through Monday decided that I didn’t want to do that and instead will use one for details of one aspect of the day – Monday my radio and TV choices.

I was looking through my Week in Life album from 2010 and funnily enough one of the photos was of me watching The Big Bang Theory – which I had recently discovered – so I chose it for the photo of my TV.

I received my postal vote for the local council elections so included this unusual event as well as the routine components of my day.

I’m finding the photo planning easier by having some standard items – meals, weather and a bit of me – I hope to continue these all week.

Week in the life plans

ae_weekinthelife2012_120x240promo

I’ve made all my structural plans for Ali’s week in the life project next week.  When I last did it in 2010 I found that it was easier having the basic structure set before I started.

I’ve decide to:

  • include it within my Project Life album
  • create digital A4 pages to print out (Photobox) and put into page protectors
  • use this template for each day – 2 page spread [evolved from Ali’s 2010 week in life pages]

week in life from ali 1

WEEK IN LIFE FROM ALI 2

  • use the bottom sections on each page for text – Tahoma font
  • use the Rub This font for the titles and captions
  • use this Katie Pertiet doodle around captions that I print on some of the photos

Are you taking part and how is your planning going?

a day in my life

When Ali Edwards suggested recording details of a normal dat, I thought it was my kind of thing

When she created a free word overlay saying ‘day in the life’ in her signature handwriting in a box – well I was sold and added it to my todo list for this week.  This is a digi artists representation of what it will look like in the Project Life pockets.  I used Ali’s thick boxes and 12x12 day frames to create the Tuesday overlay.

As you can see my day included putting together a flatpack, taking the bus, collecting together things on my packing list, going to the supermarket , relaxing with a book and eating breakfast, lunch and dinner.

week in the life finished album

wil1

Front page is photo of me in black and white – I used a Photoshop Album from Pioneer Woman called black and white burn.  Continued with the Ali Edwards handdrawn think borders to outline text.

Pleased with the layout that I’d planned for each day and that I turned the album to landscape, because that is how I take most of my photos.

Here is an example of one day: one big photo, 4 normal size photos with journaling strips; another 4 normal size photos and a page of prints and bits and pieces.

Enjoyed writing on the photos and using the boxes to define the area for the text.  Once I had put everything into the page protectors I added journaling strips and included some more details that were not written on the photos.  I then went through and used stickers on the page protectors where I wanted to add more writing.

Pleased with how it all came together and plan to do the project again in future years.  Putting the page protectors together beforehand and having the digi elements set up ready made it all work and made it easy to create the final album.

Week in the life day 7

For my big picture I used the wonderful colours in the autumn leaves

day 7 big picture

From the same walk is this one of the fruitbat colony

Opportunistic for my daily self-portrait

25th April is special in Australia and New Zealand

Today (Monday) is a public holiday – in lieu of ANZAC day so I will be able to get all of the photos printed today and make a start of putting them into the album and adding some of the black and white stickers I’ve got for this project.

chores day in week in the life

Saturday is when I do all the household chores as the photos for today illustrate

day 6 big picture

I also generally find 90 minutes for some scrapping fun

and one thing was specific to today – pink buns and tarts to raise money for breast cancer awareness (they were yum too)

Thanks for all the comments during the week.  I really appreciate them, in fact I’m going to use them on my printed page for Sunday.

Does anyone else listen to paperclipping roundtable?  As well as the fascinating scrappie talk I’ve been intrigued to put voices to people whose words  I’ve read for over a year.

week in the life – Friday evening

Friday during the day at work was much the same as Thursday so I concentrated on photos of the evening.

First a pair while going home – they are taken 35 minutes a part and show how fast it gets dark – sunset at 5.31 yesterday – probably the part of autumn and winter I dislike the most (along with getting up in the dark)

and then my dinner: lamb, mushrooms and potatoes in korma followed by pawpaw and walnut and apple log – all yum

Enjoying the project but glad it is just a week – kind of takes over thought processes and impacts on choices.

week in the life - Thursday

Went to see a production of King Lear last night so did not process yesterday’s photos before going to bed.  Play was excellent – but it is a very sad play – no photos of it but have a review and ticket to include in my paper and printed bits page.

Rest of the day was at work and that is what most of the photos are about.

Walking to the bus there was incredible low light and big grey clouds – loved the colour combination – I think it would be good combo to decorate a room.

On Wednesday photos Mel asked what my breakfast is.

The small cup at the front has nut and grain yoghurt – I’m using a cup for a bowl because the only bowls here are really big (I’m in leased accommodation so the buying choices are not mine).  The black thing if my fantastic travel coffee plunger – I always take it when I travel so I can start the day with nice coffee.  The fruit at the front is a mandarin.

Week in the life - Wednesday

Today I focused on numbers in the text I wrote on the photos.  Here are three of them: breakfast, part of my walk to the bus stop, and lunch.

getting the hang of week in the life

Today I flew to Melbourne (45 minutes) to give a presentation.  So not a routine day but the idea is to record this week, whatever happens.  Today the writing on each photo is a thought I had either at the time I took the photo or when I was looking at it and deciding which to use.  I think this works well as a way of adding context to the photos.  Here are 4 of them.

My page of bits of paper was easy today too – 2 boarding passes, the visitor sticker for the building and the bag that the coffee chocolate drops were in.

Week in life project begins

I’m following along with Ali Edwards’ week in life project this week – recording the details of life now.  I’ve decided to take 9 photos a day and to add text onto the photos in most cases.  I used the drawn boxes by Ali but changed them a bit and created both black and white versions.

I decided to have a bit of a theme for each day and to start off with I decided to set the scene of where I am – Canberra Australia.  For each day I’ll print one photo large on card – I decided to use this one of a Canberra icon

day one big

and then I have page protectors which hold 4 normal size photos and I’ll fill each side for that day.  Here are 4 of the ones I took today, with the text added.

A photos of the newsreader on ABC news and I’ve listed the first world news item (ash stopping flights) and the first Australian story (talks on health reform between federal and state premiers)

I’ve recorded the temperatures today – minimum 9 C and maximum 25 C

I included the other big icon of Canberra – the parliament buildings.  it has grass over the roof and you can walk on it!

I’ll take a self-portrait each day.  I decided to use all that white space to record the basics on why I am in Canberra at the moment (a 3 month work contract) and that this is the longest period that I have lived in Australia.

The other 4 photos for Monday are – gum trees, parrots, lovely evening sky and a big sign saying Canberra.

Feeling good about the photos and writing on them digitally.  What I forgot about today was to collect bits of paper but I can print out stuff from the computer at work to fill the last page for Monday.
