Seward Park Library (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / New York City, New York / East Broadway, 192

The Seward Park Branch of the New York Public Library was constructed in 1909 by architect Babb, Cook & Welch, one of the few firms who were allowed to build Carnegie Libraries. In its early days, the library was given a large collection of Jewish literature to cater to the overwhelmingly Jewish population in the area. The collection grew to be one of the most important collections of Jewish texts anywhere in the world. As the demographics of the neighborhood began to change, so did the library, which increased books written in Spanish and Chinese, as well as setting up civil rights programs.

In 2002, it received a full renovation and continues to serve the neighborhood. It was landmarked on June 25th, 2013.
