Brooklyn (New York City, New York)

USA / New York / New York City, New York
 county, borough, draw only border

Brooklyn (named after the Dutch city Breukelen) is one of the five boroughs of New York City, and is co-terminous with King's County, New York State. An independent city until its consolidation into New York in 1898, Brooklyn is New York's most populous borough, with nearly 2.6 million residents.

If all five boroughs were independent cities, Brooklyn would rank as the third most populous city in the United States, behind Los Angeles and Chicago. Brooklyn is coterminous with Kings County, which is the most populous county in New York State, and the second most densely populated county in the United States (after New York County, which is coterminous with Manhattan).

Though a part of New York City, Brooklyn maintains a distinct character of its own. Brooklyn is characterized by cultural diversity, an independent art scene, distinct neighborhoods, and a unique architectural heritage.

  • 1 of da greatest places on earth!
  • wow that is very graet i like't so much
  • It's the true heartland of America as depicted in many Hollywood movies. my favorite, "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn" and of course what about all those military movies past and present, there's always a colorful character in them from Brooklyn. Where else? Birth place of hero's and those who truly make a difference in brighting the color spectrum of such a dreary and uncertain world we live in. The next time someone tells you they are from Brooklyn, Smile and pat them on the back and say, what this world needs is more people you. God Bless Brooklyn and all of her unforgotten hero's.
