Highly diverse suburban residential area of the City of Manchester, with some student housing over spilling from adjacent Fallowfield. The area is dominated by the busy A6 corridor home of the busy single bus route in Europe (the 192 from Stockport, every 3 minutes during the day between Levenshulme and Manchester) and the main London-Manchester rail route with a local stopping service 3 times a hour. National Cycle Route 6 (London to Keswick largely mirroring the former full A6) runs east to west through Levenshulme on the former railway line linking the trans-Pennine routes to the now converted Manchester Central Station. It is also next at the A34 providing 40mph access from the M56. Boasting a local swimming pool, library and three large public parks and other green spaces. The architect Norman Foster was brought up here. Most housing is terraced with larger terrance/town houses dominating to the western side of the main railway line built for Victorian middle-class commuters. Most of these homes boast substantial brick built and concrete roofed former air-raid shelters due to the proximity of a major rail line.
