"Such incompetence was shown that when Putin saw what happened, I guess he said, 'well, maybe this is my chance.' That's how bad it was," Trump said, alluding to Russia's invasion of Ukraine just months later.

The president emphasized that the loss of American lives in Kabul should never have happened and reiterated his commitment to holding those responsible accountable. "I spoke to many of the parents and loved ones, and they're all in our hearts tonight," Trump said. "We had a big call. Every one of them called. And everybody was on the line and they did nothing but cry with happiness."
