Warning 1: This
is basically a spoiler-reel for the entire show. But you won't catch most of the meaning unless you've seen the show, so I don't know if it's really as spoily as all that.
Warning 2: If you're able to watch this that likely means you have Flash installed, and those cretins at Adobe have just managed to defeat the security on 99% of the world's computers
again. Youtube is safe enough, but for general browsing you'd better get yourself
Flashblock or something similar. Oh, and set PDFs to be downloaded rather than displayed in-browser, because, yes, they managed to introduce the same vulnerability into Acrobat.

Nah, you could have seen it in plenty of other places... back when it first came out (2006), it was quite the sensation in AMV circles. It won a couple of awards at Anime Boston that year (Best Action and Best in Show) and has a 9.82 rating over at AMV.org with 180 opinions, so it's quite well-respected. I'm sure I'm hardly the only place that mentioned it.
By way of comparison, my AMV, "...Angel." has a 7.87 with 5 opinions.

Drowning In Dragons
Since GOG pulled their little stunt a month ago, they've released
Baldur's Gate,
Planescape: Torment,
Icewind Dale, and as of fifteen minutes ago,
Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition (the original game, both expansion packs, and the Kingmaker DLC). Oh, and
Temple of Elemental Evil too, but I'm not so excited about that.
I wonder how Neverwinter Nights will run on a modern PC. The last time I played it was on a Pentium 4 2.6 with a GeForce 6600GT, and the Aurora toolkit (that you use for building your own dungeons) was pretty sluggish, though the game ran quite well. My current system is a Phenom 9750 with a Radeon 4850, which makes it about eight times faster. Should be interesting!

Hmm, how fast are your drives? Â AFIK SATA ][ is only 3Gb/s (and the sustained is only as fast as it can come off the platter, or maybe 80MB/s). Â Maybe link aggregation? Â A 1988 Volvo 240DL full of DVDs?

Link aggregation is the way to go, at least until we can get 10Gb. The drives are in 12-disk RAID-5 arrays, so potentially capable of several hundred MB/s.

Panty & Stocking W/ Garterbelt
Apparently the only time I get to watch anime is when one of the servers at work dies. Which one did. So I spent the weekend bringing up a new server, transferring 9TB of critical data, and then handing the ailing box over to the hardware techs to do their worst.
(We lost four entire servers to bad RAID controller firmware last year, so I've come to view routine hardware maintenance the way the CDC would view an ebola outbreak in central Manhattan.)
Anyway, this:
Um. I'm not totally against that style of animation. I
love Invader Zim, but I love it for its bleakly absurdist humour more than its visual style. Panty & Stocking gives us poop jokes.
It also gives us this:
Would the show be any better if it all looked like that? I honestly don't know.
1.5 headcats out of 4. Not unmitigatedly awful, but not

chance if it looked like that. One of the reasons I watch anime is because of the art. If I wanted to watch something with crepe art and animation, I'd watch, oh,
anything on American television.
So why would I want to watch something that looks like crepe when I'm trying to get away from that very look in the first place?

I watch anime mostly for the stories. Anime routinely not only explores the boundaries, but knocks them flat, kicks up its heels, and heads for the horizon. When a Western cartoon or live-action show does that, I'll watch it just as happily.
That said, art matters.
That said, I think the choice of art style is exactly right for the story told in P&S+G. I love that whole scene, not just the transformation sequence.
And
that said, the rest of the episode wasn't so great. It does have its moments, but it's not my cup of tea.
