Police Officer Quote - File Available

Ya know there are plenty of times when you are browsing through Facebook that you see something and you think to yourself "OMG! Self you need to make that" but you really don't have a reason or purpose for making such a thing you are looking at so you just toss it to the wayside.

When I saw this quote about police officers and their families while scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed I had that thought but I knew exactly who I could make it for. There is a young couple that my kids know, actually the wife was my daughters matron of honor and the husband played football with my son-in-law, and the husband is a member of the police force here in town and I just knew I had to make it for them. Having a degree in Criminal Justice also tends to make me have a very strong respect and love for officers of the law.

I messaged the wife and asked about what color frame and was glad when she said off white because I had picked up some of these frames at Wall's quite awhile ago and hadn't used any. They were actually for a retirement picture and had a bit of a shadow box look but I figured I could rip out the guts and use them for my own use, which obviously I did with this one. She also said she liked the burlap look of the original quote and luckily I had burlap. On a side note, thanks to my Aussie friend Janell I know know that burlap is called "hessian", so if you are ever on Jeopardy this information might come in handy.

The process of removing the guts and getting the burlap on there was a process. I tried several things, and I won't bore you with the details, and ended up just cutting the piece of burlap the size of the back of the frame and gluing it down.

In this picture you can see how there is room between the glass and the back of the frame where the burlap is glued and if you look at the bottom of the frame between the glass and burlap you will see a thin line of chipboard. In order to get the glass to stay in place I had to come up with something and since I don't have any glazier points handy and it was around midnight when I was working on this it was the best I could come up with. I think I cut about 4,827 *okie wonders if she might have just exaggerated a little bit there* strips of chipboard at 3/8 of an inch and then glued strips together until I got the thickness I needed, which oddly enough was about 3/8" of an inch as well. I used some Terrifically Tacky Tape on two sides of the strips, with one side going on the glass and the other on the lip of the frame, to hold it in place.

Since I have a number *okie is too lazy to walk to her craft closet and count them* of these frames I will be picking up some glazier points for future use.

While I probably could charge for this file I won't and offer it freely, I figure what's the difference since if someone wants it they can just do a trace of one of my pictures and make their own and it just saves someone time in the future if they want to make one *okie figures she has probably give thousands and thousands of dollars of cutting files away over the years for this very reason, plus she is too lazy to email people back and forth about such things*

When It Rains...Wall Quote

I'm not sure why my friend Amy has me make wall quotes for her when she has a machine and could cut it herself *okie wonders if Amy is just lazy about weeding*, but anyway she told me the other day she was needed a new quote to go with a picture. She sent me a quote and then told me what size she wanted.

I'm sure it will look a lot better on the wall when applied permanently but of course I couldn't do that for the picture since I have to send it to Amy. I really can't remember what size it is set to in the file you can download and since this is something people would want to re-size for their own use it doesn't really matter. This particular one is approximately 24 inches wide. I had to cut it in two pieces since the height was too tall for a 12" mat.

I had shared the design on Facebook for Amy's approval and a few people asked about the file so thought I would make it easy and just have it available here instead of having to email it to people.

Once again if you download please at least leave a comment so I know my files are used. Thanks!

Grandma & Grandpa's House Rules - Vinyl Project

Once again I saw something in the Facebook group of Cricut Design Space that someone was wanting and I thought "I can do that" and told them I would give it a try. I tried to keep it as true to the picture that was posted but I did have to change a few fonts and adjust them to what I thought might cut better.

I think this would be a lot of weeding and not sure how well it would do on smaller projects such as glass blocks as someone suggested but I think it would be nice for a wall quote or if you had a larger canvas, I'm thinking the ones larger than 11" in length. The picture is kind of small since it is a screen shot of the image but the letters are a bit more clear and crisp in the file.

So I can kiss you... FILE AVAILABLE

Someone in a Cricut Design Space Facebook group I joined had posted a quote of "So I can kiss you anytime I want" wondering what font it was. Of course I immediately recognized it as the Samantha font, some of y'all might remember all the time I spent converting that font set! Well since I was in the mood to do a file I thought I would give it a shot.

Of course I had to do the file in Make The Cut but was able convert it quickly into an SVG file so those with other programs can use it. I think I will be converting almost every file I make in MTC into SVG format from now on since I am really liking the way the Explore cuts. I do see limits in the Design Space software but as long as I can design in MTC and then upload the SVG into Design Space I think I will do just fine.

Wow two posts in one day! This reminds me of the good ol days when I was constantly making designs and posting them! *okie grins a little and winks* Told ya I was back!!!

Bathroom and Laundry Quotes

I loved the laundry quote I did for my laundry area and decided I would do another one to put in my stash for the craft fair. I think I might try and do a few more as well.

This one was another layered vinyl and has 3 colors. It might be hard to tell due to the transfer tape being on the quote but there is black, maroon and teal. Since most laundry area's aren't decorated I figured the colors would be okay.

I had designed this quote for my bathroom but instead I cut it for the craft fair as well. I used the Samantha font for the swashes and I don't remember what font I used. I really need to start writing down what fonts I am using! I really do like this one and will likely cut one for my bathroom!

Stampin Up MDS...Love the SVG's!

I have been busy working on some Wall Quotes for the craft fair and I hope they are going to sell, if not I guess my walls are going to be covered from top to bottom!

One place I have gotten some ideas for Wall Quotes is actually Stampin Up's program My Digital Studio. Everyone knows I am a fan of SU and I have quite a few stamps, just a little cardstock and a few punches from that company. They had special on the software and I got it sometime ago but just recently started playing with it due to it having some of the images in SVG format and I am really lovin some of the SVG's that are available!

The tutorial I posted last week was actually from that program but I wanted to show you a few more!

This one is from the Fantabulous You set and of course I am sure ya'll recoginze the quote from Toy Story.  One of the things I find myself doing is making the letters a little thicker by using the shadow feature in Make The Cut so the words are a little easier to cut and weed and also show up how I want them.

This particular one is from the set From My Heart and I had to do some tweaking on the scroll work as it was a little too detailed and I knew I wanted a cleaner cut than what I would have gotten. I used some of the swashes from the Samantha font for this purpose. I think this one would look great in a kitchen or dining area.

Now I am quite certain this came from Stampin Up but I can't remember what set it is from and I also didn't find the information when I did a very weak search in my list of files. I did add some circles in the ampersand because I thought it added a little something extra.

I'll be posting a few more wall quotes this week that I have gotten done. I am trying not to do too many duplicates of the quotes but some I just think need to be done twice.

Layering Vinyl for Wall Quotes

I have been doing a lot of Wall Quotes the last few days and a few of them I have done two colors and I had to figure out how to get the colors on one backer sheet, not even sure if that makes sense but hopefully it will in the pictures!

I first cut and weeded my black design. Notice the 4 triangles in the design. I added those for tick marks so I would know where to place my maroon layer.

Here is the maroon layer, the tick marks show up a little better in this picture. I cut the design right above the "enjoying" because my transfer tape isn't wide enough to pick up the whole design. Also because I didn't want to waste black vinyl by having a few extra inches at the top where there wouldn't be any design. Crap...I think I just confused all of us. I gotta stop writing blog posts when I can barely keep my eyes open! Maybe it will all make sense at the end! HA HA

I circled the triangles and put "remove after application" so the receiver would know it's not part of the design.

The transfer tape for the top half of the design was cut wide enough to cover the top maroon design but also be able to unroll over the top part of the black design. I pulled the backing off of the lettering and then taped the backing to the backside of the main design. Once the backing was taped together I lined up the triangles and placed the maroon back in position.

Here is the full design layered and with the transfer tape and hopefully it all made sense. Basically what you need to know is that you need to have some type of registration marks if you want your design to be lined up how you have intended. Of course you can be brave and just wing it!

I think this might be the most idiotic and stupidest sounding tutorial I have ever tried to do...I need a nap!

Laundry Dilemma, Wall Quote

First off, don't forget to VOTE FOR CARMEN today! And thank you to all of those who are voting and voting daily!

Now back to the laundry dilemma! Recently my washer acquired some issues that I didn't want to have to fix myself. While I was at work my daughter called a repairman and he told her it was going to be $40 for the lid switch, $40 for him to just look at the washing machine to see what the problem was with the drum and I would have to pay that whether he could fix it or not and then the bomb....we had to take the washing machine to him and he was backed up by a few days and didn't know when he would be able to get to it. I knew I would probably be looking at at least $150 to $200 to get the washing machine fixed, which is half the price of a brand new decent washing machine. I am not one of those who thinks they have to have a fancy washer, as long as it gets my clothes clean I could careless if it has digital controls, glass doors, etc.

I started looking at the local Facebook garage sale sites hoping to find a decent washer for a decent price. The other day I came across a lady selling a washer and dryer. I quickly asked if she would sell them separately and waited for a reply. An hour after I asked if they would sell the washer and dryer separate some lady posted she wanted both. She kept telling them she wanted them. When the seller finally posted she would sell them separately and wanted $50 each, the other lady again said she wanted BOTH and would be coming from an hour away. Chuck quickly took the seats out the van and we headed over to get the washer.

So for the price of the lid switch and gas to get the old washer repaired I got a newer washer!

I have been wanting to do something with vinyl in my washing area but never have done it, one thing is that I could never decide for sure what I wanted *okie has such a terrible time with commitment*. Yesterday I started looking up wall quotes for laundry rooms and came across quite a few I liked.

These were the first two designs I did and was trying to decide which one I liked better. I loved the sarcasm in the first one but liked the elegant look of the second one.

I kept looking at some others and came across another quote and that is the one I decided to go with for my laundry area. My friend Amy P. said she thought this one sounded more like me except I needed to put in "Do it your damn self" and my BFF Karen was quick to agree. And to tell the truth, they are probably right about that sounded like me HA HA HA.

I wasn't going to share the files, simply because I have been feeling a little put out about sharing lately, ya know people wanting you to design things for them and some almost demanding. But then I decided I should go ahead and share them anyway because someone might like to use them and I won't ever use the other two, at least I don't think I would use them but who knows...I might just go on a vinyl my laundry area craze, yeah okay, not likely!

Big Vinyl Wall Quote

I must be getting into another vinyl phase. I swear my obsessions cycle around. Sometimes it goes from scrapbook layouts to cards to vinyl to etching to...well etc etc etc and then starts all over again!

My daughter and I saw a canvas we both loved that had a lot of words on it when we were in Hobby Lobby recently and I had her take a picture of it so I could create something with the words. I had forgotten my cell phone but ya know how kids are...attached at the hip, and for once I was grateful for the cell phone obsession kids have!

It took me quite awhile to make the file in Make The Cut, not because it was hard but because I used so many different fonts and trying to find ones that looked good and would cut fine was a bit time consuming. I can now understand why people would charge for their files.

I cut this one to the size of filling up a 12x24 mat, which was a lot of weeding!

One of the things I did to make the weeding a bit easier was to run my Cutterbee Scissors along the lines between the words. If you have ever done a large project you know how the vinyl can stick to itself and cause havoc by pulling up parts you want left down! This method allowed me to pull off a row at a time and not have the issue happen.

Here is the project with all the main weeding done. Taking out the inner pieces can be time consuming, especially for something this size but it doesn't seem such a daunting task when you are watching TV while doing it.

I thought I was waiting for Walking Dead to come on AMC but when it got time the stupid movie Anaconda came on and I was not pleased! I did not want to watch J'LO and her big azz, I wanted to watch my zombies!! Evidently the cable company I have, CableOne, made a mistake. At first they tried to blame AMC and say no one was getting the feed but finally fessed up and said it was their mistake. The show came on at 11pm, just a mere 3 hours late! Now I am wondering if I would be better off getting Dish or DirectTV with the mistakes the cable company keeps making. I just keep hearing bad things about satellite tv and how it goes out when it's too windy, rains or snows. I guess nothing is perfect.

Wait...wasn't I talking about a vinyl project??

Here it is on the wall. I am not sure what type of transfer tape I have but it just wasn't wanting to release the vinyl for me. I left the whole thing on the wall overnight and it did release better then.

I really do like this big vinyl wall quote sign thing *okie really isn't sure what to call it* and I had to put it in the laundry room/hall from craftroom to kitchen since I couldn't find another place for it. Next time I think I will reverse the procedure so I don't spend an hour walking through my house wondering where to apply the vinyl!

Don't you hate it when...

You want to make something, you have something you need to work on, but you just don't want to do it? That was me tonight! I needed to work on a project and I did but then I got to a point where I was stumped so then I decided to make a card or something. But I couldn't decide what kinda card. I played around in Design Studio for about an hour trying to figure out a card I wanted to make. But no luck!

Then finally.......FINALLY! I opened Home Accents in Design Studio and started playing with it. I have been wanting to do a wall quote for my craft room for awhile and I finally did!! I will be doing more but at least I got a start!

And here is the wall quote I did! I am including the cut file of LIVE LAUGH LOVE if anyone wants to cut one for themselves. My door way measured approximately 40 inches, so it is larger than a regular doorway. You will need to use Home Accents for this file. It took 2 sheets of 12x12 vinyl.

Wall quotes.....

I know many of you have tried this already but this is my first one. I want to do so many but thought I should do the guest room right now since I am expecting company in a week. Back in 2002 one of my best friend's house burned, she and her kids came to stay with me while they got a house built. One day after they got into their new house she came to me and gave me a little gift. It was a little plaque that had a Thomas Kincaid house with the quote "Happy is the House that Shelters a Friend". I cried when I read it because.....well, it really touched me. I had put the plaque in the guest room last night thinking it was perfect for a guest room. After thinking about the quote I then decided it would make the perfect quote for that room.

I used Stamped for the letters and flowers on this. I decided on Stamped because it has that vintage look. I would have liked to use Storybook.....but I don't have that one!! LOL I am really happy with the way it turned out. I did cut it rather large because I wanted it to take up quite a bit of space above the bed. The letters were cut at either 4 or 4.5 inches. I used a blooms laser ruler to get the letters straight.

For those of you who haven't tried wall quotes.......TRY IT!! It is really easy and it is limitless to what you can do!
