Cinco De Mayo Layout - WeRMemory Keepers Fiesta Collection

Welcome to GabyCreates
and to the
Cinco de Mayo Blog Hop
hosted by my BFF Abby

If you just happened to be visiting and wish to participate, start with Abby, but if you just arrived from Sweet Talented Erika you are in the right place.

Cinco De Mayo (May 5th) is not México's Independence Day as many think (it is actually September 16th, but the celebrations start on the evening of the 15th waiting for the President to give El Grito).  I won't bore you with more history since you probably alreary read a bit more information on the subject at Abby's.

For today's celebration, I begged for this file!!!  (actually Yolie requested it from Melin, Melin created it and I just had to have it! -- I would have begged! lol)

When I first saw the file I could not belive how great the girl bear would go with pictures I had of my grand daughter dressesed almost just like that! to celebrate FIESTA day/week at her school. (I will use the boy on another project, I am sure! love the maracas, the boots and the hat!).

Warning: Picture Heavy!
I was so super excited two years ago when my daughter sent me these pictures!
My grand daughter is 50% Spanish/Mexican, 25% Irish and 25% African American
One day she asked me what she was (You can only imagine the comments she gets, but will spare you the details)-- I told her she was my Mexican Baby!!
so when I saw these pictures I thought she looks GORGEOUS!!
(watch out!, grandma speaking!)
and I was so PROUD!!

The Black Friday Blog Hop
If you happen to be visiting and would like to start at the beginning
with Jen, click HERE ,
but if you just got here from Christel's blog, you are in the
right place!

I created a One Page LO
(yes, I know, I do love two-pagers, but...)

Using Kraft paper for a LO is a bit out of my comfort zone, but I can envision how much better it will look once I add the black and white picture of me shopping (Yes, that is how I dress to go shopping, NOT! lol) and the words Black Friday 2010

I also created a card

I am practicing my Copic skills, I can't wait to come back a year from now to this posting and see how much I have improved.  I also need to go shopping for a stamp with the sentiment "shop 'till you drop" or "happy shopping".
Thanks for visiting!!
Leave a comment to be entered to win
(I would love for you to follow only if you like what you see, but it is not a requirement)

New Basic Grey by Sizzix - ek success punches - Fiskars and blog hop winner!

Look what I just run into at Joann....
Basic Grey Embossing folders by Sizzix!
I only purchased one, but they had  8 of them. (I will go back with coupon or when they are on sale) I should have taken pictures with my phone, but I thought I could come home and find pictures on the Internet, but nothing!  There were no postings of these new folder on the Sizzix nor Basic Grey official sites as of last night. (don't you sometimes wonder why big companies do not immediately advertise on their sites their new releases????)

I also found many of the ek extra extra large punches at Joann (24), only 8 at Michaels, but only 6 at the official ek site!  (a bit weird to me!)
The punch to your right is the regular ek success and the one to your left is one of the new super large?
On the background you can see that I punch a sample of several just to test them ( I usually test them before I throw away the packaging because some of previous punches I have purchased from different vendors do not punch all the way or are a bit faulty).

I than discovered this new product from Fiskars

This is the starter kit at $12.99 and at the bottom you can see additional stamps at $3.99. You can also purchased different ink color cartridges, it comes with a black one and a "doodle flowers" stamp.

Some of the additional stamps I bought.

You can see here how it stamps--
and more of the ek success super large punch samples.

No, I did not forget... the winner is Terrie B.

Flower Pocket Pot Card

My first quick attempt at the Flower Pot Card....

I did find plenty of ooopsies !!  First you must have a double sided paper (same color) otherwise when you flip the front of the pot you can end up like me with a white front... I improvised and like the results. I added a piece of matching print piece to the front flap or front of pot.
Second oopsies! I did not cut flower with Sizzix as the instructions ask for, not problem! I cut with Cricut and Basic Cakes Cart. The oopsies is that I cut too big! no room for leaves, but I still like the simplicity of it.
Third oopsies!!  Do not use Memory Dye Ink pad for sentiment with textured paper, my stamping does not look that nice, but I, on the inside sentiment filled in with a brown sharpie marker. I'm ok.

Fourth oopsies!!!  when attempting to punch double paper with EK, stop!!! it will not work, but I fix and all in all I am very happy with the end result!!! At least now I know what to do or not to do for next time! Because there will be a next time!! I really think this is a beautiful card (better in person) and you should check this link for different options and variations with video tutorial!!Flower Pocket Pot Card Tutorial Also, Linda Kaiser from The Paper Boutique has made a beautiful Flower Pocket Pot Card and provided the link on her site for the tutorial mentioned above.

I started this layout a while back..........

I was inspired by Okielady. She used different carts and papers and offers a .cut file which I did not use, but you can take advantage of her generosity.

Supplies used:
Pink paper -  Bazzil
Print paper - ?
Paper for little flowers - DCWV
Other paper - Core'dinations

I cut the bunny twice and inked his cheeks and tail.

And One More Two-Page LO for Yessie

This is for their save the date picture taken day. Once again this LO was created with PageMaps inspiration and the Linen Closet stack from DCWV.  The LO asked for 3 pictures on the left page, but I decided to add their actual invitation or note "to save the date".

I cut the hearts both in print and in black to give them some dimension. Everything was inked with Ranger antique linen and MS chalk ink -blue.  EK punch for the zig zag, epoxy letters, and DCWV embellishments were used.  The ribbon is the actual ribbon from their announcement.

I am not liking the journaling  mmhh, I think I will change it.  Anyway, this LO only took me less than an hour from planing the LO to the paper, cutting, inking, glueing...... I am so proud of myself!!

One more Two-Page LO for Yessie

The wedding is in July, but the next bridal shower is in two weeks. My initial intention was to create a couple of LO, but I'm on a roll! I might even fill the album (that would be 9 two-page LO and two single LO for front and back of album).
This LO was again created with the Linen Closet from DCWV (I bought several stacks, the print, the solid and the mat Linen Closet stacks because it goes perfectly with her wedding colors) and inspired by PageMaps.
Everything was inked with Tim Holtz Distress Ink antique linen with the exception of the chairs and table.  I used the vintage photo ink for them. I used pop-up foam squares to give the chairs, plate and Dinner word a 3-D effect.  After stamping the sentiment, I colored around it with Prismacolor pencils.

Stamp sentiment - Cloud 9
Chairs, table and cadle holders, Silhouette designs cut with Pazzles
Plate and flatware cut with From My Kitchen cart
Title cut using Gypsy to weld and Base Camp cart
Blue Puffy Paint
EK Punch

Thanks for stopping by and looking, leave a comment!

Two-Page Layout

I have been working on layouts for an album for my niece/ahijada Yessie who is getting married in July. This layout is all created with DCWV paper using one of Becky Fleck's April 2010 map. It is the first LO of several to come. For this LO I have pictures since we already had a bridal shower, other layouts will not have pictures.  She can have fun with them after the wedding!

Her wedding colors are Tiffany blue? white and black.

The umbrella, big butterfly and the sentiment were cut using the Tie The Knot cart.  The smaller butterflies were cut with MS punch. I used Puffy Paint to add glitter and dimension to the butterflies.

The border to the left was cut using a flower EK punch. And the swirlys on the journaling were done with the white Signo pen and a template, and a bit of free hand. I also added a bit of Stickles to it.

The DCWV paper is already glittery. I also used a Signo white pen to journal. All pictures were inked with ColorBox chalk charcoal ink.
