His Song in the Night

I'm part of a Proverbs study group that is also committed to memorizing Scripture. We've been chatting about following and resting and prayer.

Many of us fall asleep at night praying, or wake up in the middle of the night and pray ourselves back to sleep.

We're finding that maybe praying Scripture at night is a good way to go...

I mulled this over last night as I lay in bed, awake and praying.
Praying Scripture.
His song with me.
I like that.

Another reason to memorize Scripture.

What about you? Have you been memorizing lately?
What's your favorite Scripture to quote or meditate on at night?

Small Starts

I love walking in the mornings. The peace, the beauty. It gives me moments to savor. Moments to look around and see things that are often too small, things that I often miss--both inside me and around me.

These blackberry brambles are springing to life. Their little leaves call me to pause and remember the Creator and thank Him for small starts. Young beauty.

So tell me, do you have a small start you can praise God for?

Desert Blooms

Ever feel like you're in a desert? That it's too barren where you are and that you won't ever bloom?

God made the cacti to bloom in the desert and their blossoms are some of the most beautiful I've ever seen.

I will open rivers on the bare heights
and springs in the midst of the valleys;
I will make the wilderness a pool of water
and the dry land fountains of water.
~Isaiah 41:18

I will even make a roadway in the wilderness,
rivers in the desert.
The beasts of the field will glorify Me,
the jackals and the ostriches,
because I have given waters in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert,
to give drink to My chosen people.
The people whom I formed for Myself
will declare My praise.
~Isaiah 43:19b-21 NAS

Also, won't you join me at Joanne's today, posting about one of those really rough times in my life...Holding Elijah.

Full Circle

This week I've been able to be with my family--the family I was born into. Just the five of us for a few special days. Yesterday I posted a picture of us 30-some years ago. So I thought I'd share how we are today. Well, yesterday...

Caption Contest: March

Last week, after those big storms rolled through, bringing lots of rain, my youngest spotted this crawdad in the ditch in front of our house. It was a "Come see, Mom!" moment, so I grabbed my camera and ran out.  The crawdad was fun to watch--making himself as threatening as possible, even though he was sooo much smaller than us. Not to mention Puppers who followed along for the fun.

So, here's the deal: Caption Contest for March.

Leave your captions in the comments and I'll post the winner in a couple weeks.

Walking With Grace

One of the reasons I love posting on the Barn Door is because it gives me a reason to post some of the pictures I take on my ramblings.

One of the reasons I love the Word-filled Wednesday meme is for the same reason, combined with getting to put a verse on the picture.

But the reality of my life sometimes is that I don't have time to put the verse on the picture because I tend to be...persnickety. I need the right verse, the right font, the right color font, all in the right location. Honestly, it can take me a lot of time, and as enjoyable as that is, it's time that I don't always have. =(

So, the other day I came up with an idea for a happy medium...

Simply a day when I'll post a picture or a series of pictures from my rambles throughout the week.

This combines my NEED to be walking again to beat these confounded headaches (exercise! yippee?) and my WANT to post a single picture or a series of pictures on Wednesday. With or without a verse on it and with or without any text with the pictures. Since I tend to walk with an animal or three, and my Pyrenees is named Gracie, I often walk with Grace and, well, the thought of walking with grace really captivates me. It's something I want in my life.

So, I'll be posting pictures on Wednesday. No text necessary, but always an option. If this is something you'd like to join in on, let me know in the comments and we can do this as a group. A fun midweek post.

And since this is Leap Day, I'm just going to leap into it! =)

The mornings have been spectacularly beautiful lately and I've been up to enjoy them. It makes me stop and sing...

In the morning when I rise
In the morning when I rise
In the morning when I rise
give me Jesus

So tell me, what's a song you've woken up singing recently?
