We've just had the pre-construction meeting with the Sub-Contractor responsible for the design, build and install of the Jacket. The frame is about 50 x 50 x 25M, will weigh about 1,800 tons and will be manufactured in a fabrication yard here in Korea.
The finished structure will then be transported by sea to the final destination in Bahrain. The jacket frame will be lifted by a crane and lowered onto the sea bed with around 12 meters protruding above sea level.
The main and pin piles will then be inserted through the hollow legs of the jacket and hammered into the seabed. Once the jacket is level, it will be welded to the piles to form the required support structure to hold the platform steady.
The Regas Platform will then be lowered onto the jacket frame via a submersible barge that will navigate itself into the jacket 'U' channel, directly between the piles (as seen above).
Looking forward to inspecting the progress over the next nine months.
