Enter an award-winning urban fantasy world where monsters roam the streets and things aren't always what they seem. Demons, ghosts, vampires, and necromancers—Ivy dodges the city's deadliest villains while solving its darkest cases. Will she save the day or die trying?

FROSTBITE (Bonus Prequel: Ivy Granger #0.5)

Everyone knows that there's no such thing as ghosts, but when a client claims that her house is being haunted, Ivy tries to keep her mind open and her weapons handy. If her psychic gifts and recent cases have taught her anything, it's that you're better off arming yourself for the unexpected.

Anything is possible in Harborsmouth.

SHADOW SIGHT (Ivy Granger #1)

Ivy Granger's second sight is finally giving her life purpose. Ivy and her best friend Jinx may not be raking in the dough, but their psychic detective agency pays the bills—most of the time. Their only worry is the boredom of a slow day and the occasional crazy client—until a demon walks through their door.

GHOST LIGHT (Ivy Granger #2)

Ivy Granger is back, gathering clues in the darkest shadows of downtown Harborsmouth. With the lives of multiple clients on the line, she's in a race against time. Ivy finally has a lead to the whereabouts of the one person who can help her control her wisp abilities, but will she put the needs of her clients above her own?

If Ivy doesn't find a solution soon, she could wind up a ghost herself.

BURNING BRIGHT (Ivy Granger #3)

Things are not going well at the offices of Private Eye. Jinx is having demon problems, the city is overrun with pyromaniacal imps, and Ivy's wisp powers are burning out of control, attracting the attention of both the Seelie and Unseelie courts. It's the worst possible time for the Green Lady to call in a favor, but Ivy's bound by her deal with the glaistig. Too bad there's no wiggle room in faerie bargains.

Ivy must rid the city of imps, keep Jinx from murdering her one solid link to Hell, and fulfill her bargain with the Green Lady—with sidhe assassins hot on her tail.

Just another day's work for Ivy Granger, psychic detective.

Q+A with E.A. Weston (Lupo Legacy)

Q+A with Emily Cyr author of The Lightning Legacy paranormal

Please welcome today's guest author, E.A. Weston!  E.A. (aka Elizabeth Kelly) is the author the Blackrock series, the Avalon series, and Lupo Legacy series.

Q+A with E.A. Weston

EJ:  When did you begin writing?

EA:
I began writing poetry when I was a teenager, where I entered a competition and won a place in a book of anthologies. I used to write songs a lot but did start my writing career until November 2013, after I saw a news story about cyber bullying I couldn’t get it out of my head, which lead me to write my first book.

I wrote my first book Scarred Hearts, which is part of the Blackrock series, in three weeks. It was self published in January 2014 and I haven’t looked back since ;)

EJ:  What brought you to the paranormal genre?

EA:
I enjoy reading paranormal books and wanted to write in this genre for along time. I began reading Barbra Erskine books by accident while I was on my lunch break years ago. She writes time slip and ghost stories with historical events mixed in. I always found her books interesting and often wanted to emerge myself in her worlds.

My first Paranormal book, Killian, took me about six months to write because I wanted it to be perfect and I was also writing the Blackrock series at the same time. Killian is one of two series’ that I have always wanted to write it is set in the fictional world of Avalon in the fairy realm.  Once I have my fairy series complete I will move on to my other project (may already have notes upon notes written).

The other paranormal series that I have written is called the Lupo Legacy series. This series is written like a TV show, with six episodes released in 2014 and another six coming in November / December 2015. This is my werewolf shifter romance that follows a family of werewolves that come from an ancient royal bloodline of Italian wolves. Emery is 19 when we meet her but doesn’t know that she has a spirit wolf living inside of her until number of circumstances for the change on her. She has many trials not only in love but in dealing with what she now is.

EJ:  If you could be any paranormal or have any one supernatural talent, what would it be? Why?

EA:
I think I would have to be a fairy. I love the mystery that surrounds them and the of course the magic! Where could you go wrong, you even get wings!!

EJ:  Tell us why readers will enjoy your new release.

EA:
My upcoming release is season 2 of Lupo Legacy. It begins just where season 1 left off with Emery forced into hiding to protect what she is. Asher and his wolf are missing their mate and he is trying to solve the mystery of where she went and how he can find her, but a series of threats are made against her life, which has him feeling useless in the fight against the unknown.

EJ:  If your book(s) were being made into a movie, who would you cast for the leading roles? Why?

EA:
Oh wow that is hard. I honestly have no idea who I would cast in any of my books. My characters are so diverse and they are all made up with no ‘real life’ person in mind when I develop them. But if anyone has any ideas I’ll gladly listen.

Thank you E.A. for joining us here today at From the Shadows!

Paranormal Road Trip: Destination Annwyn with Shona Husk

Paranormal Road Trip: Destination Annwyn with Shona Husk

Come on boys and ghouls!  It's time to hop on Route 666 for a spooktacular Paranormal Road Trip.

This week's stop is Annwyn and our special guide is Shona Husk author of THE DARKLING LORD, the fourth novel in the Court of Annwyn paranormal romance series.

Shona's Top 5 Spooky Places in Annwyn

You might think that the land of the fairies across the veil is all sunshine and flowers…and it is most of the time (unless it’s in winter and you really don’t want to visit then as winter affects the fairies as well as the land).

1. The most creepy place in Annwyn has to be the river of the damned. Even the name is creepy. It is the river that encircles Annwyn, and where the souls that are beyond saving go to drown forever. The water also has a tendency to reach out and grab anyone who gets too close so don’t be tempted to see if there’s anyone you know in all those ghostly faces swirling beneath the surface.

2. Castle Annwyn is the ultimate treehouse. It is made of trees that have grown to form the amazing structure. And yes it is what humans would call haunted. Souls that need to do penance or fairies that are being punished become shadow servants. Faceless, shadowy figures that are there to do your bidding if you dare to ask.

3. Are libraries too quiet for you? Perhaps you prefer audio books? In Annwyn they have the singing stones. The entire history of Annwyn and fairy interaction with humans is recorded here. All you need is the patience to listen. Of course you don’t want to get so lost in the stories that you for get to eat and drink…

4. The parties that mark the old festivals (solstice, equinox etc) are something to behold. However if you are mortal you might want to avoid the food, the wine and also the dancing so you don’t get trapped in Annwyn forever. Probably best to avoid the party actually as they are really an opportunity for fairies to let go of the morals they pretend to have.

5. The gambling halls. Fairies love to gamble, but not with money. They trade information and favours (yes, including those favors) and souls. Fairies don’t have souls, so tricking humans out of them is very entertaining. The human is then beholden to the fairy. Gambling with a fairy is risky at best and deadly at worst.

While fairies are beautiful, and tempting and Annwyn seems like a beautiful place to visit any time of the year, my best recommendation is to stay firmly on the mortal side of the veil as once you cross over you may not come back.

Oh, and one final warning if you are still tempted by the allure of all things fairy. Time moves differently in Annwyn. You may think you have only been gone from the mortal a week only to find a decade has passed.

Thank you Shona for giving us such a haunting tour of Annwyn!

Blood and Mistletoe Limited Time 99 Cents Urban Fantasy Holiday Kindle Deal

Blood and Mistletoe (Ivy Granger, Psychic Detective #1.5) by E.J. Stevens.

Holidays are worse than a full moon for making people crazy. In Harborsmouth, where many of the residents are bloodsucking vampires or monstrous fae, the combination may prove deadly.

Ivy Granger, psychic private investigator, returns to the streets of Harborsmouth in this addition to the bestselling urban fantasy series.

Holidays are Hell, a point driven home when a certain demon attorney returns with information regarding a series of bloody murders. Five Harborsmouth residents have been killed and every victim has one thing in common--they are fae. Whoever is killing faeries must be stopped, but they only leave one clue behind--a piece of mistletoe floating in a pool of the victim's blood.

The holidays just got interesting. Too bad this case may drive Ivy mad before the New Year. Heck, she'll be lucky to survive Christmas.

Book Review: The Iron Queen (The Iron Fey #3)

The Iron Queen (The Iron Fey, #3) by Julie Kagawa.

My name is Meghan Chase.

I thought it was over. That my time with the fey, the impossible choices I had to make, the sacrifices of those I loved, was behind me. But a storm is approaching, an army of Iron fey that will drag me back, kicking and screaming. Drag me away from the banished prince who's sworn to stand by my side. Drag me into the core of conflict so powerful, I'm not sure anyone can survive it.

This time, there will be no turning back.

Review:

Filled with loveable characters that step off the page and into your heart.  The Iron Queen is the third book in the amazingly fabulous Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa.  Yes, I am an Iron Fey fan-girl (LOL!).  Kagawa continues to demonstrate her adeptness for world building and character development.  Her faerie realms are filled with fabulous flora, fauna, and mythic creatures.  Meghan, Puck, and Ash, the stars of this series, continue to grow and mature.  With The Iron Queen Julie Kagawa also proves that she can pull the reader's heart strings as expertly as any of Leanansidhe's musicians play their instruments.  I found myself crying, laughing, and gasping in awe along with these characters.  This was a book that I could not put down until the very last page.  I also adore the supporting characters; Grimalkin and Razor have become personal favorites.  This is a fantasy adventure with cross-genre appeal that I believe readers of epic fantasy, paranormal romance, and young adult fiction will all enjoy.  I can't wait for the release of The Iron Knight!

I highly recommend The Iron Queen (The Iron Fey, #3) to readers of fantasy, paranormal romance, young adult, and especially to fans of faerie filled adventure.  Fans of the Gathering of Faerie series (Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception and Ballad: A Gathering of Faerie) by Maggie Stiefvater, the Woundrous Strange series (Woundrous Strange) by Lesley Livingston, and the Wicked Lovely series (Wicked Lovely, Ink Exchange, Darkest Mercy, Fragile Eternity) by Melissa Marr may enjoy this series.

Guest Author Interview: Deborah Andreasen

Please welcome today's guest author Deborah Andreasen!  Deborah is the author of The Gifted.

EJ:  When did you begin writing?

Deborah:
I’ve been writing since I was a tiny tot; I wrote a book in first grade about a girl abandoned in the forest. She was raised by fairies and returned to her parents when she was a teenager. New York Times Best Seller List, here we come! As a teen I won awards for my writing, but when I got to college, the fire died under the heaps of course work. After I graduated and worked for a few years, I felt like I had to write, or I would simply explode! That was about the time I took myself seriously as a writer. It’s been about four years now.

EJ:  What brought you to the paranormal genre?

Deborah:
Well, I’ve always loved the paranormal. I grew up devouring King Arthur stories and loving fairies and things we can't explain (nor should we try). It just fits me. I think that we should all believe in a little magic now and then. I’ve tried writing a “normal” YA novel. No Fae, no magic, no special abilities. Just raw human nature. I couldn’t do it. I had to add a ghost in there just to make it fun, and ghosts aren't even my thing.

EJ:  If you could be any paranormal or have any one supernatural talent, what would it be? Why?

Deborah:
Well, in The Gifted, Pyper has telekinetic abilities. That would be my number one choice. I have an unfinished work about a boy who can travel through dreams, and I think that would be fascinating as well. I can tell you right now I would not want to read minds. *shudder* I prefer to deal with the chaos in my own head, thank you very much.

EJ:  Tell us why readers will enjoy your new release.

Deborah:
The Gifted is the story of a girl who doesn’t fit in. I think all of us can relate to that in one way or another. It also has all the necessary elements for a good read: danger, love, death, intrigue, and good old fashioned sarcasm and teenage angst. Really, though, Pyper is the kind of character that most of us could curl up inside and become at one point or another. She’s very real and just wants to be loved, even if she won’t admit it.

EJ:  If your book(s) were being made into a movie, who would you cast for the leading roles? Why?

Deborah:
Oooh, this is a toughy. I did not write any of the characters with a specific actor in mind. In fact, the characters tend to write themselves sometimes. Anyway. I think Emma Roberts would make a good Pyper. She has that wholesome beauty, but she can also do dark and mysterious. Plus she rocks red hair. The male lead, Kael, was tough. I couldn’t really find anyone who fit him, both in looks and personality, but the closest I came was Zac Efron. I told you he was a tough one! For mean-girl Summer, I picked none other than Dianna Agron from Glee. Need I say more?

 The Gifted by Deborah Andreasen

Pyper just wants a normal life. But ever since the day she died, she’s been able to control objects with her mind. What she can’t control is a mother who fears Pyper’s ability and the possibility of it being discovered. Pyper only finds solace in her friend and brother, Baler.  When Pyper moves to yet another new school, she meets Kael, who takes an immediate interest in her. He knows her secret, and he's got one for her: he needs her help saving the Fae people.

The problem is, Pyper doesn’t believe in Faeries. But when her brother is abducted, Pyper doesn’t have much choice. Can she really save a race she doesn’t believe exists? Can she rescue her brother? And can she accept her second chance at life?

Guest Author Interview: Mari Mancusi

Please welcome today's guest author Mari Mancusi!  Mari is the author of the Blood Coven series including Boys that Bite, Stake That!, Girls that Growl, Bad Blood, and Night School.

EJ:  When did you begin writing?

Mari:
I've always loved to tell stories. When I was too young to pick up a pen, I would draw pictures and have my mother transcribe my words onto paper. All through school I wrote short stories and in high school I graduated to longer, serial pieces--usually romances starring my friends and the rock stars who loved them. (If only David Bowie knew what he's done in my books!) When I got to my twenties, I realized if I wanted to get serious and get published, I'd need to dedicate myself to writing one full novel. My first novel or two ended up under the bed, but my third full length book, "A Connecticut Fashionista in King Arthur's Court" scored me an agent and eventually a publishing deal at Dorchester.

EJ:  What brought you to the paranormal genre?

Mari:  I've always loved the dark and spooky. As a goth girl I listened to dark music and watched dark films. Vampires became an obsession after reading Anne Rice and seeing films like The Hunger. Later, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Sherrilyn Kenyon novels solidified the desire to create my own fanged world, which I did with The Blood Coven Vampire series.

EJ:  If you could be any paranormal or have any one supernatural talent, what would it be? Why?

Mari:
Invisibility because then I could be a fly on the wall. I'm nosy like that and I love observing people. I believe this would make me a better writer, as well, studying people as characters without them knowing.

EJ:  Tell us why readers will enjoy your new release.

Mari:
In January, readers will be able to pick up Book 5 of The Blood Coven Vampire series, called Night School. It's a young adult series, but has a lot of appeal for adults as well, especially those who are Buffy fans. My books always have a mixture of dark angst, romance and humor. After all, if we can't find something to laugh about in the darkness, then we are truly doomed.

While I try to make all the books understandable if a reader were to pick them up out of order, I hope people will check out the first four books in the series, which are available now in bookstores or online in print or ebook formats.

EJ:  If your book(s) were being made into a movie, who would you cast for the leading roles? Why?

Mari:
I just saw Easy A in theaters and I think Emma Stone would be amazing as my heroines. (They're twins so she'd have to play both parts.) She's cool and tough, but pretty at the same time and I think she could easily encompass both the good and bad girl roles. For the boys, Magnus, the Blood Coven Master is supposed to be like a Pirates of the Caribbean Orlando Bloom type, with long brown hair. And I think the guy who plays Jasper in the Twilight saga could be my Jareth, Rayne's vampire boyfriend.

Night School (Blood Coven, book 5) by Mari Mancusi.

Vampires, Slayers and…FAIRIES? Sunny and Rayne McDonald are about to get SCHOOLED.

After their parents’ shocking revelation about their fae heritage and an attack on their lives, the McDonald twins find themselves on the run—forced to hide out at Riverdale Academy , a boarding school for vampire slayers, deep in the Swiss Alps. With no cells, no internet, and no way to contact their vampire boyfriends—the twins are on their own.  Being a vampire stuck in a school full of slayers isn’t easy. Especially with no blood substitute stocked on campus. Soon Rayne finds herself succumbing to her bloodlust and losing control—especially around the arrogant, but devastatingly handsome Corbin Billingsworth the Third—who isn’t sure whether he wants to kiss her…or kill her.  But when Sunny starts acting strange, Rayne realizes Riverdale Academy may be hiding some deadly secrets of its own—leading to a showdown in Fairyland that may cost the twins their lives.

Book Review: An Artificial Night

An Artificial Night (October Daye, book 3) by Seanan McGuire.

Changeling knight in the court of the Duke of Shadowed Hills, October "Toby" Daye, has survived numerous challenges that would destroy fae and mortal alike.  Now Toby must take on a nightmarish new assignment.  Someone is stealing both fae and mortal children--and all signs point to Blind Michael.  When the young son of Toby's closest friends is snatched from their Northern California home and his sister falls into a coma-like state, the situation becomes way too personal.  Toby has no choice but to track the villains down, even when there are only three magical roads by which to reach Blind Michael's realm--home of the legendary Wild Hunt--and no road may be taken more than once.  If she cannot escape with all the children before the candle that guides and protects her burns away, Toby herself will fall prey to the Wild Hunt and Blind Michael's inecscapable power.  And it doesn't bode well for the success of her mission that her own personal Fetch, May Daye--the harbinger of Toby's own death--has suddenly turned up on her doorstep.

Heroes come in many forms, sometimes even in the form of a snarky changeling.  The October Daye novels are rich with Celtic myth and folklore and filled with danger, suspense, and Toby's dry wit.  I loved Rosemary and Rue and A Local Habitation, the first two books in this series, and had high expectations for An Artificial Night.  Seanan McGuire did not disappoint.  Changeling October "Toby" Daye, half human and half Daoine Sidhe, lives on the knife's edge between modern day California and a world of darkness, magic, and monsters.  She has tried to live solely in the human world, casting aside her fey heritage for a normal peaceful existence, but that didn't go so well.  Even living on a diurnal human schedule is difficult for Toby, but she perseveres because she has a good heart...the heart of a hero.

I highly recommend An Artificial Night (October Daye, book 3) to readers of urban fantasy, paranormal suspense, fantasy, and especially to fans of the Rachel Morgan books by Kim Harrison and The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher.

Book Review: The Iron Daughter

The Iron Daughter (Iron Fey, book 2) by Julie Kagawa.

Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron Fey, iron-bound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her. Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's alone in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.

Meghan may be a half-blood of the Summer court, but with her whole world in darkness her heart is turning to ice.  Will the boy she loves return to her?  And which of the two young men in her life will she choose in the end?  The Iron Daughter is the second book in the Iron Fey series.  I absolutely loved The Iron King, the first book in this series, and have been anxiously awaiting this release.  I was not disappointed.  Julie Kagawa is a fantastic world builder and in this book we are able to learn more about the Iron Fey and their influence on the human world.  We also learn more about the politics of the Seelie and Unseelie courts and the outcasts of Faerie.  The Iron Daughter is shrouded in darkness, with something sinister always lurking in the shadows, but the ray of light is Meghan's loyalty to those she loves.  Meghan's affection and loyalty are her strength, yet what will happen when her heart is pulled in more than one direction?  A fabulous paranormal romance with a heartrending love triangle balanced with the suspense and action of urban fantasy.

I recommend The Iron Daughter to readers of paranormal romance, fantasy, urban fantasy, faerie fiction, and especially to fans of the Iron Fey series.

Guest Author Interview: Lisa Sanchez

Please welcome today's guest author Lisa Sanchez!  Lisa is the author of Eve of Samhain.

EJ:  When did you begin writing?

Lisa:
I've always had a creative flair and have been writing since I was a young girl. Most of my free time was spent dreaming up different stories and then sharing those stories with anyone who would listen. I wrote creatively until I started my family, at which point I was too tired to do anything but sleep during my few minutes of spare time. Now that my girls are older, I'm able to explore my creative side again and I'm having a blast.

EJ:  What brought you to the paranormal genre?

Lisa:
I've always been a fan of the paranormal romance genre.  I mean, c'mon!  Vampires are hot! Give me a story filled with a sexy, superhuman hero and an angsty forbidden love and I'm all kinds of happy. I remember reading a few vampire novels here and there in my early twenties, but what really sucked me in was Twilight.  I found J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series soon after and that was it. I was hooked.

EJ:  If you could be any paranormal or have any one supernatural talent, what would it be? Why?

Lisa:
Oooh, fun question!  I'd probably go with super speed.  I'm a mom of three and there never seems to be enough hours in the day to get everything done.  If I possessed super speed, I could whip through my chores, run errands and have a ton of time leftover to read and write. Woohoo!

EJ:  Tell us why readers will enjoy your new release.
Lisa:
Eve Of Samhain is a modern twist on the Irish legend of the Gancanagh (a love faerie with an addictive touch.) The two leads, Ryann and Quinn are sexy, stubborn, witty, desperately in love with one another, but unable to touch due to Quinn's cursed touch. As humans, we're blessed with five wonderful senses: sight, taste, smell, hearing and touch.  When we're in love, each of those senses becomes heightened, and things like the delicious spicy scent of our guy becomes an aphrodisiac of sorts. We express our feelings not only through speech, but through gentle caresses or heated, passionate touch. Ryann and Quinn don't have the luxury of expressing their love through touch, and their story is how they work around that obstacle and eventually come out on top with an unbreakable bond.

EJ:  If your book(s) were being made into a movie, who would you cast for the leading roles? Why?

Lisa:
Woohoo!  Another fun question. For me, there's only one actor who could play Quinn, and that's Kellan Lutz.  He's got the perfect build, a beautiful face and the right personality. Boyfriend is hot, hot, HOT!  Ryann's character is a bit harder for me, only because I'm usually thinking about Quinn (she laughs.) I think I'd have to go with Ashley Green.  She's cute with the shorter hair, and she seems to have an overall aura of sass, which is a requirement for playing Ryann.

Eve of Samhain by Lisa Sanchez.

As a college senior and server at Hanaford Park's hottest nightclub, twenty-one year old Ryann Pierce's plan was simple: work hard, make lots of money, and avoid the ass-grabbers at all costs. What she never planned for was Quinn Donegan—the living, breathing advertisement for sinful behavior that waltzed into her life.
With an angelic face, a hard body and a butt-load of charm, Quinn had a way with the ladies—a lot of ladies. Cursed with a deadly, addictive touch, his trail of indiscretion blazed across five hundred years. Tired and jaded, Ryann is a shocking revelation Quinn didn't see coming.

Filled with desire, yet unable to touch one another, Ryann and Quinn embark on a daunting journey, battling frustrating physical limitations while exploring their new love. In a race against the clock, Ryann learns she must plead for Quinn's life before…the Eve of Samhain. Determined to end her lover's suffering, not even the danger dogging her every move can keep her from her mission.
