Suicide of a woman.

--An inquest was held yesterday morning, by Coroner Little, over the body of a woman of evil fame, named Dinah J. West, alias Edlen Fisher, who had committed suicide the night before by taking laudanum. The deceased lived in the eastern tenement of the building, on Cary street, between Seventh and Eighth, known as "Solitude," where reside a large number of other females of the same character.--From the mass of testimony elicited at the examination, it appears that the deceased had been drinking quite freely during Tuesday afternoon, and becoming somewhat inebriated, she sent one of the inmates of the house to an apothecary to purchase some laudanum, which she took about ten o'clock, and died from its effects in an hour afterwards. Before her death she confessed to a party present that she had taken laudanum; but stated that she had not taken enough to hurt her. The sequel, however, proved her mistake.

In accordance with the facts of the case, the jury rendered a verdict that Ellen Fisher came to her death in consequence of taking an overdose of laudanum, administered by herself.
