Freshets.
--The waters of the Pamunkey and Mattaponi rivers, swelled by the recent rains and snows are now higher than they have been for many years. It is impossible to get within half a mile of the usual ferry landing at New Castle on the latter river. The Chickahominy has also overflowed its banks, and its low grounds are several inches under water. These freshets interfere very materially with the spring fisheries.
