Shoes for the army.
We learn that there is a great want of shoes in the army, many of our brave soldiers being, at this inclement season of the year, actually barefooted! What are the sufferings of the poorest citizens to those which our gallant army has in so many forms endured? But such destitution as this ought not to exist a moment longer than it is known. That there should be a single barefoot soldier in the army which defends Richmond, much more half a brigade, is a shame and scandal which Richmond, much as she has already done, will never permit.
