The following important official dispatches were received yesterday at the War Department:

Charleston, July 18th, 6 o'clock P. M.

--General S. Cooper: The Ironsides, five monitors, four gun and mortar boats, and two land batteries of five guns, have fired furiously all day on Battery Wagner--four killed, fourteen wounded, and one gun-carriage disabled.

Charleston, July 19, 3.40 A. M.

--Gen S. Cooper:--After a furious bombardment of eleven hours from the ships and shore, throwing many thousands of shot and shell, enemy assaulted battery Wagner desperately and repeatedly, beginning at dark. Our people fought worthily, and repulsed the attacks with great slaughter. A number of prisoners were captured. Our loss is relatively slight. It includes, however, valuable lives. Brig.-Gen. Taliaferro commands on our side. Pickets now well in advance. God is again with us.
