The Treasury clerks,
composing a strong company, returned "from the wars" yesterday, and drew up in line in front of the department, about 11 o'clock, dusty, dirty, hungry, and thirsty. Secretary Memminger, after congratulating them on their military appearance and the promptness with which they exchanged their pens for muskets at the call of their country, gave them till 12 o'clock to morrow to rest and recuperate, when he hoped to see every man at his desk, armed with his pen, and ready for service. The clerks could find no Yankees in their marches, but from their eagerness to discover the foe, we have no doubt that they would have proved themselves worthy soldiers in a noble cause could they have had the pleasure of facing the invaders.
