Tobacco.
--A prominent local topic yesterday was the fall in the price of tobacco. Everybody had a word or two on the subject. People who had dabbled in the 'weed' with the expectation that they would shortly realize fortunes were the least disposed to converse on a subject so dispiriting to them, whilst those who had not staked anything on the rise were congratulating each other, and rejoicing that the "speculators" had suffered. There were two auction sales of tobacco yesterday, and quite a number of lots were passed over because no one would hazard a bid.
