Characteristic courtesy.
--The officers of the French corvette Milan, during the progress of the fire in Charleston, S. C., on Monday night, detailed a Lieutenant and forty men, with a few from on board their vessel flying off the battery, to come on short and saint in extinguishing the flames. On landing they were informed by the officer of the night watch that the progress of the fire has been arrested when they returned to their vessel. It was souther pleasing incident of the characteristic courtesy and spirit which distinguish the French nation in all that is brave, generous, and heroic.
