are needed for the accommodation of the many mounted men in need of farriers' assistance. So crowded are the shops parts of the city, that we have not unfrequently seen horsemen ride up and hitch their horses at 2 A. M., so as to be early for the first call, Veterinary surgeons also are in request, and much as we admire the skillfulness of negro operators, we suggest that more expert persons be detailed for such nice operations. There are numbers of excellent blacksmiths in the ranks, and we believe would willingly volunteer their services were they so to do. All blacksmiths are now ordered by martial law to attend promptly to military business in preference to all other, and we sincerely trust the men in all our shops will cheerfully assist soldiers in every possible way.
