From the South Carolina coast.
capture of prisoners.

Augusta, June 4.
--The Savannah Republican of this morning has dispatches from Charleston, dated yesterday, which state that the enemy landed, about four hundred strong, at James Island, nearly opposite the city, and were repulsed with the loss of twenty prisoners.

Gen. Gist's last dispatch says: ‘"The prisoners taken this morning report that the enemy landed strong last night, on Battery Island, with a like force at Legareville, John's Island. The enemy are in front of me, but under cover of their gunboats."’

5 P. M.--The twenty Yankee prisoners captured on James Island, have just passed on their way to jail. Ninety more were cut off and will probably be captured. Heavy firing continues in that direction.
