Affairs in New York.
From New York papers we gather the following items of affairs in that city:
A Federal Marshal summoned to Washington — trial for piracy — release of Confederate prisoners, &c.
A few evenings since Marshal Murray was unexpectedly summoned to Washington, and he left by the first train this morning. Orders were received this morning to discharge Mr. R. R. Walker, confined in Fort Lafayette. He was a resident of this city and was implicated with the speculator, Millner, in sending arms to the South. Mrs. Walker, convinced of the innocence of her husband, went to Washington a few days ago and succeeded in obtaining interviews with the President and Mr. Seward, and earnestly pleaded the cause of her husband before them, giving proofs of his loyalty.Twenty prisoners selected on Thursday from among the North Carolinans on Bedloe's Island, were to be sent to Fortress Monroe yesterday, there to be released upon taking oath not to bear arms against the United States Government. This is done in response to the recent release of fifty- seven of our wounded soldiers at Richmond. As nearly all the persons released by the rebel authorities are disabled by wounds and disease, more than half of them having had a limb amputated, Col. Burke made selection in the same manner from among the common soldiers, and those were taken who appeared to be most disabled and weakened by disease.
Judge Nelson has arrived in the city, and will next week proceed with the trial of the persons indicted by the United States grand jury in the Circuit Court for piracy.
To-day three hundred and ninety colored persons were sent out to join the American colony in Hayti. They are principally married people, with quite a large number of children.
The steamer City of Washington left to-day for Liverpool, with 44 cabin passengers, and others in the steerage. Among the passengers was the Rev. F. Grattan Guinness. The steamer Bavaria also sailed for Southampton, Havre, and Hamburg, with 144 passengers.
The obsequies of Terence Bellew McManus were celebrated yesterday by the Irish citizens of New York with a public procession, in which a large number of local Hibernian Societies and delegations from other cities assisted. The procession moved by a circuitous route from 23d street to pier No. 44 North river, where the coffin was deposited on board of the steamer that is to convey it to Ireland.
The number of men employed at the Brooklyn Navy-Yard has now reached the extraordinary figure of three thousand five hundred--the largest force ever employed within its walls; and yet it is increasing at the rate of from one to two hundred men per week.
The Surveyor of the Port seized yesterday the ship John Fyfe, just arrived from Glasgow. One- sixteenth of the ship is owned by Henry Brigham, of Savannah, Ga.
Seamen are very scarce at this port. The advantages offered by the Government has induced a very large number to ship in the Navy. Crews were shipped in Boston for the ships Constellation and Constitution, packets for Liverpool, who have been detained waiting for them. Wages to Liverpool and Havre are $18 per month, with $25 to $30 advance; to the West Indies, $15 per month, with from $18 to $20 advance.
Hon. Edward Everett delivered his lecture on the war before a large audience, at Brooklyn, on Friday night After the lecture it was announced that the Hon. Henry Winter Davis. of Maryland, would deliver an advance at the Academy within a week or two.
