Captain Washington Gwathmey.

--We observe that the New Orleans Crescent omitted the name of this distinguished officer, and townsman, in its narrative of the late naval battle at the mouth of the Mississippi. He commanded the gun-boat Jackson, which took a prominent place in the engagement. The omission was, no doubt, unintentional, and we take great pleasure in supplying it. Though the Crescent does not mention the name of Capt. G., yet there is no doubt that he acquitted himself nobly, since his vessel is reported as having done so. We take this occasion to repeat what we have said before, that our little navy has not a more gallant officer on its roll, or one who will be surely to make his mark whenever he may have an opportunity. The other New Orleans papers supply the omission of the Crescent.
