Steam on the Canal.
--The canal steamboat Virginia Enterprise was successfully launched at Scottsville last week. She took to the water easily, but when steam was raised, she disappointed the expectations of her friends woefully. She moved, it is true, but so slowly as to cause doubts as to the ultimate success of the scheme. She is now at Scottsville undergoing some alterations, by which it is thought the requisite speed may be attained. The experiment has succeeded elsewhere, and if there is any fault in the construction of the boat, it may be remedied. Nil desperandum should be the motto.
