Stealing Money.
--The rather serious charge of stealing, taking, and converting to his own use the sum of $260 60 in bank notes and silver coin, and one galvanized watch, of the value of $15, was preferred by Tobias Pearsall, keeper of the ‘"Star Saloon,"’ against a man calling himself James Clendining. The charge rested on the oath of Tobias Pearsall and others. The accused has resided here for some years, and is said to be reputably connected, though his distinguishing personal traits and habits of life are unknown to us. No evidence was given in before the Mayor yesterday, but his Honor deemed the matter of sufficient importance to commit the accused till next Tuesday, when the matter will be inquired into.
