The first skating.

--The first skating of the season in this vicinity was enjoyed this morning on the meadows and low lands in Lexington, which were flooded by the recent rains. The shallowness of the water rendered it safe for lads and misses to venture on the thin ice, and they were having a merry time of it this forenoon. The ice first formed on Wednesday night, and the cold Northwest wind of yesterday prevented the sun from melting the surface, and last night the ice increased in thickness, so that it would bear an adult to-day.--Boston Transcript, Friday.
