Hundred, a,
The name of a territorial division, having for its chief object the more convenient and efficient administration of justice. The name was originally derived from the fact that each of these divisions was to contain 100 free families. In England, to each hundred belonged a court baron, similar in its nature and extent of jurisdiction to a county court. The phrase was largely applied to sections in Virginia and other Southern States.
