ἢ τοῦ ἀγαθοῦ. For the assumption that τἀγαθὸν is the final end of desire, cp. Phileb. 20 B ff., Gorg. 467 D ff., etc. The statement here is referred to by Proclus in Alcib. I. p. 129.

ἁπλοῦν. Equivalent to ἄνευ προσθέσεως ἀληθές: cp. 183 D; Phaedrus 244 A εἰ μὲν γὰρ ἦν ἁπλοῦν τὸ μανίαν κακὸν εἶναι κτλ. (“true without qualification,” Thompson); Prot. 331 C.
