[52] “οὐκ ἂν δὴ κτλ”.: a question in the sense of an energetic but sarcastic exhortation: couldst thou not then withstand, etc.? stand to meet, etc. Cf. “οὐκ ἂν δὴ Τρῶας μὲν ἐάσαιμεν καὶ Ἀχαιοὺς ι μάρνασθαι”; 5.32 f., Od. 6.57. The way for this question has been prepared by vs. 50 f.: “If thou hadst the courage to bring Helen to Troy, if thou didst bring war upon thy native land, then have the courage” etc.
